Abstract

Closure for a bottle or similar, with a cap-shaped holding part (2) provided with an inward-facing projection or collar (3) for engaging the protruding lip of the neck of a bottle, and with a sealing part, independent of the holding part yet connected with it, with an annular sealing surface lying on the surface of the bottle neck. The sealing part is connected to the holding part by means of an elastic element (27) or is itself elastic, forming an excess pressure valve. When the closure seals the neck of a bottle, the holding part, under the tension of the elastic element (27), rests on the upper edge of the bottle neck. When the spring tension registers pressure, the holding part opens, preventing the build-up of excessive pressure. Bottles are thereby prevented from bursting, and the risk of accidents is avoided.

Description

Verschluß für eine Flasche oder dergleichen Closure for a bottle or the like
The invention relates to a closure according to the preamble of claim 1 for a bottle or the like.
Known closures for bottles are either screw closures or crown closures. Both types of closure essentially consist of a cap-shaped part which is positively connected to the bottle neck. There is also a seal between the closure and the bottle neck. Because of the positive connection, the bottle is closed pressure-tight. As a result, there is a risk that the bottle will be damaged in the event of overpressure. Both with plastic bottles and with glass bottles, this can lead to breakage and leakage of the liquid, which means a considerable risk if the contents of the bottle are dangerous. In the case of glass bottles, there is also a risk of injury to people, especially the eye from flying glass fragments.
Cap-shaped closures made of plastic for bottles are also known, which are snapped onto the bottle neck. Just as they snap open, they can also snap down and allow excess pressure to escape, but the point at which they yield to the excess pressure is undefined and, moreover, they do not close automatically after the excess pressure has released.
From DE-OS 14 32 188 a closure of the type in question is known, which has the shape of a screw cap with adhesive plug, which forms a separate part from the screw cap and frictionally and positively with the Screw cap is connected. The adhesive plug thus represents nothing more than a special form of a seal which is immovably connected to the screw cap. This known screw cap does not differ from the known screw cap mentioned at the outset and therefore has the same disadvantage, in particular that of the risk of bursting.
A screw cap is known from US Pat. No. 2,950,833, the bottom of which is formed from two halves of a disk which are articulated to a common, diametrical axis. The flaps thus formed rest loosely on the front edge of a cylindrical screw part. A tight closure of a bottle is not possible with this known screw cap, so that the problem of avoiding inadmissibly high overpressures cannot arise in the first place.
The invention has for its object to provide a closure of the type in question for bottles or the like, in which the risk of the bottles bursting due to excess pressure is avoided.
The object underlying the invention is achieved by the teaching specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.
The invention is based on the basic idea of designing the closure in the form of a pressure relief valve which, of course, can be dimensioned such that no impermissibly high pressures arise. Escaping gas or liquid in the bottle limits the pressure to the maximum permissible level. This means that the bottle cannot burst, which can lead to accidents, in particular in the case of glass bottles, for example damage to eyes due to flying glass fragments. The danger is also great with plastic bottles if there is a dangerous liquid in the bottle. Since bottles filled with liquid, for example bottles of carbonated lemonade, are generally stored and transported upright, excess pressure only escapes in the form of the gas, so that the liquid does not escape at all. The advantage of Avoiding excess pressure is therefore only offset by the completely negligible disadvantage of the partial escape of carbon dioxide.
According to the teaching of claim 2, there is a stop on the holding part for the defined contact of the holding part on the edge of the bottle neck. Since the sealing part also bears against the edge of the bottle neck, generally further inside, the mutual position of the holding part and the sealing part is thereby precisely defined. Since the elastic element for pretensioning the sealing element is located between the two, the size of the pretensioning of the elastic element is also precisely defined and thus the pressure at which the sealing element lifts off, that is to say opens the pressure relief valve.
The elastic element can be formed by a flexible rod, which engages with its ends on the holding part and lies in the middle region between the ends on the side of the sealing part facing away from the sealing side. The rod can be made of metal, in particular steel, so that it retains its elastic properties over a long period of time and the opening pressure of the pressure relief valve is therefore precisely defined over a long period.
The elastic element can be formed by the sealing part itself, in that it is designed to be elastic, for example by thin dimensioning or by appropriate choice of material. The elastic compliance can also only partially exist, for example in the edge area.
Holding part and sealing part can be firmly connected to one another via the elastic element. This connection can also be releasable, e.g. have the form of a snap connection.
The sealing part can also have the shape of a rigid disk. In any case, the elastic element can also be flat, for example in the form of a foam disc or in the form of several, distributed spring lips or the like. In the latter cases in particular, it is expedient to have one on the holding part To provide a radially inwardly projecting projection, in particular a circumferential collar which engages behind the sealing part on the sealing side and thus largely "captively holds the inside of the cap-shaped holding part. It is also possible in this way to give the elastic element a pretension.
All parts of the closure can be made of plastic or metal, depending on the requirements and the possible reusability. The connection of the holding part with the bottle neck can also be arbitrary. It can be a frictional connection, but expediently a positive connection of any shape, as occurs, for example, in so-called crown caps or screw closures. With the aid of the drawing, the invention will be explained in more detail using exemplary embodiments.

In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 in two vertical sections perpendicular to one another, an upper part of a bottle neck 1 is shown, on which a cap-shaped holding part 2 is arranged, which has a radially inwardly directed collar 3 on an upper bead 4 Bottleneck 1 engages behind and thus holds the holding part. In this position, the holding part 2 with a -S. ¬

In the area of the bottom of the cap-shaped holding part 2 there is a round recess 7, through which a round rod 8 extends diametrically, which consists of the piece with the holding part 2, that is to say it is pressed together from plastic. In the central region of the rod 8, this is positively releasably gripped by two lips 9, which are located on a sealing part 10, which essentially forms a rigid disc, which has a conical, annular sealing surface 11 on its edges, which on the inner part of the Edge 6 of the bottle neck 1 is tight. If necessary, this conical sealing surface can also be coated with a soft sealing material. The position of the stop 5, the sealing part 10 and the rod 8 are such that the rod 8 is in the closed position shown under a pretension which, in conjunction with the surface of the sealing part 10, determines the pressure at which the sealing part is located 10 rises due to the pneumatic or hydraulic pressure and allows an excess pressure to escape.
In the second exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3, the holding part has the shape of a crown cap 12, which is held by crown-shaped indentations 13 on the bead 4 of the bottle neck 1 and is thereby held on the upper edge 6 of the bottle by a stop 14 formed by an indentation Bottle neck 1 supports, whereby its position with respect to the bottle neck is precisely defined. In this position, the crown cap 12 is not tightly connected to the bottle neck 1. To seal the opening of the bottle neck, in this exemplary embodiment, a plate 15 forming the sealing part is used, which is firmly connected centrally to a base 17 of the crown cap 12 via a support 16. At its edge, the plate 15 has a circumferential sealing lip 18 which bears against the upper edge 6 of the bottle neck 1. Plate 15 and sealing lip 18 are made of an elastically resilient material and are dimensioned so thin that the outer edge of the plate 15 yield and the circumferential sealing lip 18 can stand out so that excess pressure can escape. The crown cap 12 can consist of sheet metal in a conventional manner, while in particular the plate 15 with the circumferential sealing lip 18 consists of a plastic material. Another material, for example sheet metal, is also possible.
In the third exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4, the sealing part 2 is in principle designed in the same way as in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2, but a bottom 19 of the holding part 2 is provided, similar to the bottom 17 in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3 In order to ensure a safe escape of excess pressure through the holding part 2, a hole 20 is provided in the bottom 19.
At the bottom 16 there is a support 21 which is connected via a spherical snap connection 22 to a plate 23 which corresponds to the plate 15 in FIG. 3 and consists of a flexible material, so that in particular the edges of the plate 23 can lift off at the overpressure from the edge 6 of the bottle neck 1. In this embodiment it is also possible to make the base 19 very thin and resilient, so that it forms the spring element, in which case the plate 23 can be rigid. Optionally, the bottom 19 and plate 23 can be elastically flexible in the desired manner. In the fourth exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 5, the holding part 2 is designed essentially as in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4, but a rigid, disk-shaped sealing part 24 is provided, which is resiliently supported on the base 19 by elastic spring lips 25 . In this embodiment, a circumferential collar 26 extends inward from the stop 5 and engages behind the outer edge of the sealing part 24, so that the sealing part 24 is connected to the holding part 2 in an inseparable manner.
The fifth exemplary embodiment in FIG. 6 largely corresponds to that according to FIG. 5 with the difference that instead of the sealing lips 25 in the space between the bottom 19 and the sealing part 24. ' a spring bar 27 is arranged in the form of a pre-curved leaf spring. The dimensioning and curvature of the spring rod 27 define the spring force which determines the excess pressure at which the sealing part 24 rises in order to allow excess pressure to escape. The sixth exemplary embodiment in FIG. 7 largely corresponds to that according to FIG. 3. A difference is that instead of the flexible plate 15, an essentially rigid sealing part 28 is provided, which is located on the bottom 17 of the crown cap 12 via an elastically flexible foam part 29 supports. The foam part 29 can simply be glued to the benac beard surface parts, so that the sealing part 28 is firmly and captively connected to the bottom 17 and thus to the crown cap 12.
