Abstract

The intention of the device is to allow simple handling of a can lid with great operational reliability and small space requirement. To fulfil this object, it is constructed as a cap-type holding-down device (1). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a cap-like hold-down device for securing the lid of a can, in particular a paint can, with the features of the preamble of patent claim 1.

Cans, in particular lacquer cans (press-in lid cans according to DIN 2028), have a lid such as Provide push-in cover. Cans with an opening of more than 70 mm need to be secured against undesired opening during transport for safety reasons or due to corresponding safety regulations.

Therefore, it is known to use a bracket to secure the lid, which can be fixed with the aid of two brackets on the can and protects the can lid from an undesired opening by holding it down. However, it is necessary to provide brackets for fixing the bracket, which increases the cost of manufacturing the cans. Furthermore, the possibility of stacking cans is excluded by the use of such a hanger, so that the use of a hanger entails an increase in the costs both in the packaging and in the storage and transport of the cans.

From FR-A-2 270 156 is used to secure cans known cap-like hold-down device, which grips the can head laterally with its side walls and rests on the top of the can or the can lid with its head end, so that the lid is arranged in engagement with the thickening located at the upper edge of the can by means of the inside of the side wall nose-like projections should be held. Since the head end is in direct engagement with the lid, the nose-like projections towards the head end have a rounding, caused by tolerances both in the lid height and in the upper edge of the can, the risk that the hold-down device is not sufficiently precise, that is, with sufficient a firm fit on the can must be locked.

Furthermore, it is not possible with such hold-down devices to arrange them stacked one above the other in such a way that, on the one hand, the individual hold-down devices can be prevented from slipping in relation to one another and, on the other hand, there is at the same time the possibility of easily removing the individual hold-down devices from the stack, e.g. to be able to remove mechanically by means of the so-called single slide.

Furthermore, the hold-down devices known from the document FR-A-2 270 156 do not offer the possibility of safely stacking the cans with the hold-down device applied, that is to say non-slip.

Another possibility of securing offers the use of clamps, but here the application of the clamps is laboriously manual and it is not possible to release them without technical equipment, so that the handling of cans provided with clamps has proven to be impractical.

In addition, outer cartons are used for transport, which with Styrofoam inserts are provided and serve to accommodate the cans to be transported in order to prevent the press-in lid from opening during transport if handled improperly. This type of security, however, on the one hand causes increased costs due to the additionally required polystyrene inserts, reinforced corrugated cardboard material and adhesive tape closure due to special approvals and, on the other hand, due to the increased cargo space requirements that this necessitates. In addition, there is a not inconsiderable environmental impact both in the manufacture of such packaging inserts and in the disposal thereof.

The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a cap-like hold-down device for securing the lid of a can, in particular a paint can with an opening of more than 70 mm, which prevents the can from being opened undesirably, in particular during transport, when used improperly, and also with any tolerances in the lid or can flanging area, ensures a non-slip stackability of the cans provided with the fuse and creates the possibility of also non-slip stackability of the cap-like hold-down devices and thereby ensures that the individual hold-down devices of such a stack can be easily removed even by means of structurally simple mechanical devices.

This object is achieved in a cap-like hold-down device of the type mentioned at the outset with the features of the characterizing part of patent claim 1. Further advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.

Characterized in that according to the invention the side wall has two sections of different diameters, the one directly adjacent to the surface of the head end and about 2/3 the wall height-taking first section has a smaller diameter than the second section directly adjoining the end of this first section opposite the head end, that a projection is arranged on the inside at the end of the first section of the side wall facing away from the head end that the Head end facing side of the projection running parallel to the head end, that is to say is designed such that the upper side of the surface facing away from the side wall of the surface located at the head end is arranged with a coaxial to the central axis of the hold-down and extending in its axial alignment to the side wall opposite direction ring , this can easily be brought into and out of engagement with the can and ensures that even when used improperly and also with any tolerances in the lid height or in the flanging height located at the upper end of the can an undesirable is open the can effectively prevented, especially in cans having an opening of about 70 mm diameter. Furthermore, it is ensured that cans provided with the cap-like hold-down device can be stacked on top of one another in a non-slip manner and can thus be stored and transported in a space-saving manner. The cap-like hold-downs themselves can be stored one above the other or intermeshing after their use or before their use, so that here too a space-saving and therefore inexpensive storage of the hold-downs is ensured.

If the surface arranged at the head end is designed to close the head end, this ensures that the lid to be secured cannot be damaged by external influences.

If the surface arranged at the head end is designed as an annular surface, this saves material and thus Cost savings achieved.

Characterized in that the ring arranged on the surface arranged at the head end is arranged in a rib-like manner and concentrically to the hold-down device at a distance from the outer edge of the surface arranged at the head end, it is ensured by a particularly simple but effective manner that a non-slip stacking of the device provided Cans is guaranteed because the rib-like ring can engage in the arch of a can to be stacked on it and at the same time ensures that a particularly high stability of the hold-down device is achieved.

The fact that the ring arranged on the head surface arranged at the head end is circumferentially arranged on the inner edge of the ring surface arranged at a distance from the side wall creates a particularly light and material-saving cap-like hold-down device.

If the head end is provided with a web and this is arranged coaxially to the central axis of the hold-down device between two opposite sections of the rib-shaped ring, this results in particularly favorable handling of the device, since the web functions as a tab and can thus be used as a handle . The bevelling of the side of the projection (7) facing away from the head end ensures that the cap-like hold-down device can be brought into engagement with the can in a particularly advantageous and simple manner.

If the device consists of polyethylene, the device is given the necessary strength on the one hand and the necessary flexibility for attaching and removing to and from the can on the other.

If the device is made of polypropylene, this ensures that the device functions well.

As shown in Fig. 1, the device (1) is designed as a circular cap-like hold-down device and has at its head end a closed surface (3), on the outer edge (see Fig. 2) all around a side wall forming a hollow body ( 4) is arranged. The circulating Side wall (4) consists of two sections (5, 6) of different diameters and different heights, the first section (5) adjoining the surface (3) of the head end and occupying approximately two thirds of the wall height having one, compared to the second section ( 6) has a smaller diameter and has at its end facing away from the surface (3) of the head end a circumferential, inward-pointing projection (7), the internal dimension of which is less than the diameter of the first section (5). The surface (3) facing side of the projection (7) designed as a bead, as shown in FIG. 5, is flat and the side of the projection (7) facing away from the head end is chamfered, so that the side facing away from the head end begins the part of the side wall (4) forming the second section (6) rises in the direction of the central axis or in the direction of the head end. The second section (6) of the side wall (4) has a larger diameter than the first section (5) and begins on the side of the projection (7) facing away from the surface (3) or on that of the surface (3) opposite end of the first section (5) and ends at a distance from this.

The side of the surface (3) of the hold-down device (1) facing away from the side wall (4) is provided with a rib-like ring (9), as shown in FIG. 2, which is concentric, as shown in FIG. 1, at a distance is arranged all round to the outer surface edge.

As shown in FIG. 3, in a second exemplary embodiment there is no surface that closes the entire head end. Rather, the ring (9), which is rib-like on the side of the head end facing away from the side wall (4) and which is arranged perpendicularly and concentrically to the center of the hold-down device, forms a boundary, so that the surface is shown coaxially to the central axis (8) in Fig. 4, arranged between two, opposite sections of the ring (9) extending web (10) and a circumferentially arranged surface (11) between the spaced from the side wall (4) arranged ring (9) and the first Section (5) of the side wall (4) reduced. The further configuration of the hold-down device (2) shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 is otherwise identical to the hold-down device (1) described in the first exemplary embodiment.

Before or after use of the hold-down device, the hold-down device can be stacked together, as shown in FIG. 6, the second section (6) of the side wall (4) in each case the first section (5) of the side wall (4) of the one below Hold-down device (1,2) at least partially comprises and the ring-shaped surface (11) of the head end or the outer surface edge of the side wall (4) facing away from the surface (3) of the lower hold-down device (1, 2) with the underside of the Projection (7) of the hold-down device (1, 2) above is engaged, so that a large number of hold-down devices can be stacked on top of one another in a non-slip manner.

When using the cap-shaped hold-down device (1, 2), as shown in FIG. 7 with reference to the first embodiment, this is on the head end of a can (13) such as a paint can according to DIN 2028 with an opening diameter of over 70 mm and a usual lid or push-in lid according to DIN 2028. For this purpose, the projection (7) is pressed over the flange (12) located at the head end of the box (13), so that the side of the projection (7) facing the head end of the hold-down device (1) engages with the underside of the flange (12) stands and the hold-down (1) sits firmly on the box (13). There is a small distance between the underside of the surface (3) of the hold-down device (1) and the cover (14) to be secured or only a slight contact, so that it is ensured that the projection (7) engages around the flange (12) even with any tolerances. Due to the small distance or slight contact between the underside of the surface (3) and the top of the cover (14) and the tight fit of the device (1), there is only a slight theoretical, that is to say a shift of the cover which can be neglected in its effect (14) possible, so that it remains closed even with improper use of the can (13), that is, for example, if the can (13) falls down from the loading area of a truck with the aid of the hold-down device (1,2).

The effect of the second embodiment (2) differs from the first only in that there is not a small distance or only slight contact between the underside of a closed surface and the cover (14) to be secured, but this small distance or there is only slight contact between the underside of the web (10) or the circumferentially arranged surface (11) and the cover (14) to be secured.

For the storage of several cans, these can also be stacked one above the other in connection with the hold-down device, the ring (9) arranged vertically on the hold-down device in the provided or usual indentation (15) of the can bottom (as shown in FIG. 7) or above to the stacking can and so a non-slip storage or stacking of cans is guaranteed.

A third embodiment according to the present invention is shown in FIG. 8. Here the surface (3) is provided with a tear ring (16) so that the device (1) can be removed completely without auxiliary tools.

Because of technical requirements, it turned out to be useful to use plastic types whose low-temperature resistance is ensured even at temperatures down to -18 °.
