Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a module for the connection of electrical conductors, comprising, in a connection box made of insulating material, several female contacts intended to receive, through holes provided in the upper part of the case, male contact ends fixed to the ends of the electrical conductors to be connected, means being provided for establishing the electrical connections between the female contacts.
  • Connection modules of this type are well known and are generally intended to be fixed on support rails, for example spring rails according to French patent No. 2,441,932.
  • connection modules allow electrical conductors to be connected together.
  • electrical or electronic components for example fuses, resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, etc.
  • the known connection modules are not designed to be able to receive such components, or, if need be, a small number of small components which must be incorporated into the modules during manufacture, instead of several female contacts.
  • these components must therefore be incorporated by the manufacturer of the module, which is then delivered completely closed to the user. This obviously leads to a high cost price since each module must be designed by the manufacturer according to the intended use, hence the impossibility of carrying out a real mass production.
  • GB-A- 2 180 415 discloses a connection module which comprises, in the same housing, female contacts and other components.
  • the present invention according to Claim 1 relates to a module of the type defined above capable of being equipped with a large number of different components by the user of the modules, so as to allow mass production of the modules at a reduced cost price.
  • At least one housing surrounding a reception compartment for components is arranged adjacent to at least one lateral side of the connection box, the two boxes being made in one piece and being open at the bottom, their common partition wall extending downwards less far than the outer walls.
  • the female contacts of the module and the components are fixed on the top of a printed circuit board inserted from below in the two housings so that the part of the board carrying the female contacts is in the connection box and the part remaining from the plate carrying the components, in the other housing.
  • the lower part of the two boxes is closed below the plate by an attached bottom.
  • the module according to the invention according to Claim 1 can be mass produced with regard to the double housing and the bottom serving to close the double housing in the lower part.
  • the modules can be delivered thus prepared to the user who only has to fix the components on the printed circuit boards according to the envisaged uses, to introduce the packed boards in the double case and to close the double case in the lower part, below the plate by the attached bottom.
  • the added base is constituted by a sliding bottom in the manner of a drawer in the grooves of the double housing.
  • This sliding bottom is preferably provided with latching locking means in the engaged position.
  • the housing for the components can be closed at the top, in which case it is waterproof, but in another preferred embodiment, the housing for the components is open at the top and has fixing means. for an attached cover.
  • ventilation vents are then provided on the housing of the compartment for the components and / or on the cover of this housing.
  • vents improve the cooling of the components placed inside the compartment, while protecting these components from accidental contact.
  • the printed circuit board can carry, on the top, metal studs for the elevated fixing of components.
  • the printed circuit board is advantageously held in position on the double casing, not only by the added base, but also by other means, for example snap-on retaining means.
  • the module according to the invention for the connection of electrical conductors comprises a double box 1 formed of two boxes 2, 3 of generally parallelepiped shape, adjacent by one of their grad side and made of '' a single piece of insulating plastic, namely a connection box 2 and a housing 3 for receiving components, of a printed circuit board 4, of a bottom 5 sliding in the manner of a drawer, and a cover 6 attached to the top of the housing 3.
  • connection box 2 of generally parallelepipedal shape open at the bottom, comprises, in its upper wall 7, two rows of through holes 8 in which are inserted from the bottom, in the lower part, retaining sockets 9 comprising locking tabs 10.
  • the two opposite front walls 11 and 12 of the housing 2 carry externally (see FIG. 3) means for fixing the module on a support rail, namely a boss attachment 13 on the wall 11 and a groove 14 and a boss 15 on the wall 12, for attachment to a spring support rail according to French Patent No. 2,441,932.
  • the wall 12 is provided externally with a label holder 16 enabling the module to be identified.
  • the outer side wall 17 and the front walls 11 and 12 of the housing 2 extend to the lower end of the module, while the opposite side wall 18 stops at a distance above the lower end of the module .
  • the wall 18 simultaneously constitutes the common partition wall between the two boxes 2 and 3.
  • the opposite external side wall 19 of the box 3 ends at a closer distance from the lower end of the module.
  • the two side walls 18, 19 define, with the two opposite front walls 20 and 21, a compartment 22 of parallelepiped shape, open upwards and downwards.
  • the printed circuit board 4 which carries conductive strips 23 on its underside (see FIG. 4) has a shape and dimensions allowing it to be inserted from the bottom into the double housing 2, 3, below the partition wall 18 common, so as to apply it against this wall 18 and against a shoulder 24 provided on the inner face of the wall 19,
  • the plate 4 carries on the upper face, in its part located in the housing 2, two rows of contact females 25 having tails 26 passing through the wafer 4 for the mechanical fixing of the contacts 25 to the wafer 4 and for the electrical connection by soldering of the contacts 25 to the conductive strips 23.
  • the female contacts 25 are surrounded by a block 27 of material insulating.
  • the plate 4 In its part located in the housing 3, the plate 4 carries, on its upper face, several metal studs 28, six in number in this example, intended for example to receive three fuses 29 shown in mixed lines in Figure 2.
  • the studs 28 also include shanks 30 passing through the plate 4 for mechanical fixing and for electrical connection by welding to the conductive strips 23.
  • the printed circuit board 4 is held in position in the double casing 2, 3 by a bead of resin 31 cast on the edges of the board 4 below the latter.
  • housing 2 is surmounted by a block 32 of elastic material, traversed by through holes for the conductors to be connected, not shown and serving as a seal for sealing the housing 2 .
  • the interior faces of the walls 20 and 21 of the housing 3 are aligned with the interior faces of the walls 11 and 12 of the housing 2.
  • the double housing 2, 3 comprises in this zone, in each front wall (11, 20 and 12, 21), a horizontal groove visible in FIG. 3, for receiving below the plate 4 the bottom 5 capable of be introduced in the way of a drawer from the side of the wall 19 of the housing 3.
  • the bottom 5 comprises at least one latching notch 33 which locks it on the wall 19 when it is fully engaged in the double housing 2, 3 so as to close the latter in the lower part.
  • the cover 6 has a general U-shape, each of its two wings 34 being provided with fixing means cooperating by snap-fastening with retaining means provided on the walls 20 and 21 of the housing 3. It is clearly shown in FIG. 2 that the cover 6, when attached to the top of the housing 3, leaves air vents 35, 36 improving the cooling of the components 29 arranged in the compartment 22. On the other hand, the cover 6 offers good protection against contact with components 29.
  • the embodiment according to FIGS. 5 and 6 differs from the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 4 by the design of the conductive strips of the printed circuit board 4 ′, by the components 38 fixed on this board, and by the fact that the housing 3 is permanently closed in the upper part by a top wall 39 integral with the side and front walls of the housing 3.
  • the components which may be active or passive components, for example resistors, capacitors, transistors, etc. are here fixed directly to the wafer 4 ′, their connection conductors passing through toruses provided in the wafer 4 ′ and being soldered on the underside of the wafer to the conductive strips which lead to the female contacts provided on the part of the plate 4 disposed inside the housing 2.
  • a layer 40 of resin is poured under the plate 4 ′ over the entire surface of the latter.
  • the added base could also be other than sliding, just as the cover could be fixed in a different way.
  • connection box 2 instead of producing a module combining a connection box 2 and a reception box 3 for components, as shown, it would also be possible for example to produce a module comprising two connection boxes 2 receiving a reception box 3 between them, or a module comprising a connection box 2 flanked by a reception box 3 on each side.
  • the modules according to the invention have a width equal to a multiple of the width of the usual modules.
