Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of radio technology.
- it relates to a radio transmission method for transmitting information between a control center and a plurality of external stations, the same radio frequencies being used for the transmission between the control center and each external station.
- Radio transmission methods of the type mentioned at the outset are frequently used in the operation of radio communications networks for which only one (simplex operation) or two (duplex operation) radio frequencies are made available because of the small number of subscribers (see, for example, Brown Boveri Mitt. 7 (1980), p. 415-418).
- the situation is different if the outstations are not operated radio stations, but autonomous, automatically working stations which are intended to transmit certain status reports to the control center.
- Do the outstations serve, for example, property protection, i.e. if they have the function of sending any alarm messages to the control center, as soon as an unauthorized change occurs to the monitored object, the problem arises of transmitting the alarms that may occur simultaneously at different outstations to the control center in a suitable manner with only one radio channel.
- the object is achieved in a radio transmission method of the type mentioned at the outset in that - all outdoor stations are switched off as long as they do not have any information to be transmitted to the control center; - An outdoor station is switched on automatically as soon as it receives such information; - The transmitters of the outstations are only keyed when the outstations are switched on and queried by the control center; - At certain times, all outstations are queried simultaneously by the head office in a sum query; - The control center polls the outdoor stations one after the other in a polling cycle, if at least one of the outdoor stations was switched on during the previous total poll and keyed its transmitter in response; and - Those outstations that were switched on at the start of the query cycle are switched off again after their information has been sent to the control center.
- the essence of the invention is to carry out a polling of the outstations, which is divided into a short summing poll and a longer polling cycle, the longer polling cycle only being started when the previous summing poll has shown that at least one of the outstations has to transmit information and the outdoor stations are only put into an operational state suitable for transmission if information has actually been obtained.
- each outdoor station comprises a transmitting part, a receiving part and a data part, the supply of which is switched off when the external station is switched off.
- the radio transmission system to which the invention relates is shown schematically in FIG. 1. It comprises a center 1 and a number of spatially distributed outdoor stations S1,..., Sn.
- Both the central station 1 and the outdoor stations S1,..., Sn have transmission and reception options via one or two radio frequencies, which are used for all radio connections between an outdoor station tion and the center 1 are the same (the radio connections are indicated in Fig. 1 by double arrows).
- the outstations S1, .., Sn are cyclically, i.e. queried one after the other by the head office.
- the timing diagram of such an exemplary query cycle AZ is shown in FIG. 2.
- FIG. 2 shows those time periods on different time axes arranged one below the other in the form of rectangles, in which the transmitters of the control center 1 (upper time axis) and of the various external stations S1, .., Sn (other time axes) are keyed (transmitter keying ST) .
- the exchange of information INF between the control center 1 and the outstations S1,..., Sn is marked for each existing radio connection by corresponding vertical arrows.
- the transmitter of the control center 1 is first keyed. After a period of time which is reserved for modem synchronization MS, a suitably addressed individual query A1 is sent as information to the first outdoor station S1.
- the outdoor station S1 If the outdoor station S1 is switched on, it receives the individual query A1, then answers its transmitter as a response and transmits the information it has received to the control center 1, which in this time period leaves its transmitter switched off.
- the outdoor station S1 unlike in FIG. 2, is not switched on, it cannot receive the individual query A1, does not scan its transmitter and therefore does not give a response to the central station 1.
- control center 1 After the time period reserved for the response from the outdoor station S1, the control center 1 sends out the second individual query A2, which is directed to the outdoor station S2. Again, a response depends on whether outdoor station S2 is switched on or not.
- the information INF transmitted by them to the central station 1 essentially contains alarm messages.
- n 120, i.e. 120 outdoor stations S1, .., Sn are assigned to control center 1, each outdoor station being able to transmit up to 8 different alarm messages.
- n 120, i.e. 120 outdoor stations S1, .., Sn are assigned to control center 1, each outdoor station being able to transmit up to 8 different alarm messages.
- a cycle time of approximately 17 s is achieved for a query cycle.
- the transfer of information can e.g. using frequency modulation (FSK).
- the polling cycle AZ which is important for only one radio channel, is comparatively long Takes time. This is particularly noticeable when such a query cycle AZ is started and run through without any information UNF to be transmitted to the central station 1 being generated at any outdoor station S1,... Sn.
- a polling cycle AZ is only run through in the method according to the invention if, in a previous, much shorter total polling SA (FIG. 3), in which all of the outstations S1,..., Sn simultaneously (summarily) be queried, it has been determined that information has arisen at at least one outdoor station.
- control center 1 now carries out a total interrogation SA, i.e. interrogates all outstations simultaneously with a single interrogation, all switched on external stations, including the outstation S21, receive this interrogation and respond at the same time with a short transmitter keying ST (fifth time axis in Fig. 3).
- the control center 1 detects the frequency transmitted by the keyed external stations (frequency detection FD on the first time axis in FIG. 3) and now, despite the interferences occurring with several keyed external stations, knows that information has been obtained in at least one external station.
- the described method has the advantage that the main parts of the outstations are only switched on and consume energy when an information (alarm) is necessary, that transmission power is only given when information is actually being transmitted, and that the relatively long polling cycle is only carried out if it is certain that information has been obtained at some outstation.
- the outstations can be switched on by appropriate alarm contacts, which are connected to the object to be protected.
