Abstract

A filling station for a cartridge filling and sealing machine for filling viscous or pasty materials into cylindrical cartridges having a filler valve, a positioning and centering device for positioning and centering the cartridges in a position in alignment with the filler valve, and a displacement drive for adjusting the positioning of the positioning and centering device the filler valve in relation to each other. In order to assure an exactly centered position of the cartridge prior to inserting the filler valve into the cartridge as well as dependable support of the cartridge in a non-deforming way prior to and during filling, the positioning and centering device has a unit and at least one vacuum suction holder disposed in the unit. The unit has a contact surface adapted to the outer shape of the cartridge. The vacuum suction holder is formed by a suction hose the open end of which is disposed in the unit.

Description

The invention relates to a filling station according to the preamble of claim 1.

In such a filling station known from US-A-3 115 906, the cartridge is supported on a carriage which can be displaced vertically by means of a pneumatically actuated piston-cylinder drive and is pushed over a filling valve which is also arranged vertically and is open at the bottom. The circular cylindrical cartridge lies on the slide against a partially circular system. The cartridge itself is not held on the carriage, so that - especially with thin-walled cartridges - their deformation cannot be ruled out with certainty.

From GB-A-2 022 553 a holding and centering device for cartridges to be filled is known, which are transferred by means of this device from a horizontal delivery position by pivoting into a vertical filling and closing position. This holding and centering device has vacuum bores connected to a suction line, by means of which the cartridges are held by vacuum during this transfer process. The cartridge is no longer held in this device while the cartridges are being filled.

Filling stations for cartridges are also known, in which the respective cartridge is held during filling by means of a holding and centering device which grips the cartridge from below with holding fingers. It is pressed into this device from above by means of a spring lever or a pneumatic cylinder. When using a spring lever, the holder of the cartridge is not sufficiently firm, so that the cartridge can slip when the cartridge is moved over the filling valve. On the other hand, when the cartridge is pressed by means of a pneumatic cylinder, the thin-walled cartridge can be deformed, so that proper filling cannot be guaranteed.

The invention is therefore based on the object of designing a filling station of the generic type in such a way that an exactly centered position of the cartridge before the introduction of the filling valve into the cartridge and a reliable holder which does not deform the cartridge before and during filling is ensured.

This object is achieved by the features in the characterizing part of claim 1. The essence of the invention is that the cartridge is drawn into the holding and centering device by means of the at least one vacuum suction holder. The cartridge is therefore only loaded from one side with holding forces, so it is not compressed and thus deformed. In addition, an absolutely safe centering is guaranteed, since the cartridge cannot change its position relative to the system. The cartridge is already gripped by the suction hose or the suction hoses during the feeding in the direction of the system, which then pulls the cartridge onto the contact surface, i.e. shorten while centering the cartridge.

3.The further developments known per se according to claims 2 and 3 also serve to securely center the cartridge.

The further embodiment according to claim 4 enables a particularly simple method of filling valve and centered cartridge relative to each other.

If pasty, i.e. no longer flowable material is to be filled into the cartridges, the cartridges are usually transported and filled in a horizontal position, i.e. the filling valve also has a horizontal position. If, on the other hand, only viscous but still flowable materials are to be filled, then the cartridges must be transported and filled vertically or at least in a position that is still clearly inclined from the horizontal to the vertical. The filling station according to the invention can be used in all cases. In the event that the cartridges are transported in the horizontal position of their central longitudinal axes, claims 5 and 6 provide a simple possibility of lifting the cartridge from its lower rest position to the holding and centering device.

A system for filling and closing cartridges with non-flowable pasty goods essentially consists of a press 1 and a cartridge filling and closing machine 2. The press 1 has a vertically standing frame-shaped frame 3, the lower support carrier 4 for a pasty Has well-containing container 5. Above this cylindrical container 5, a pressure plate 6 is arranged, which can be pressed into the container 5 by a hydraulically actuated working cylinder 7. This working cylinder 7 is supported on an upper crosshead 8 of the frame 3. By correspondingly pressing the pressure plate 6 down into the container 5, the pasty material is pressed out of the latter into a transport line 9, through which it is fed to a metering device 10 assigned to the machine 2.

From this metering device 10, the pasty material is fed in portions in a precisely metered amount to a filling station 11 to be described in more detail below.

The cartridge filling and closing machine 2 essentially has an elongated machine frame 12, on the one of which - in FIGS. 1 and 2 on the left-hand side in each case - a cartridge magazine 13 is attached.

The step-by-step transport of cartridges 14 from the magazine 13 via various workstations is carried out by means of a so-called rake 15. This is about it is a carriage 16 mounted in the machine frame 12, which can be moved in the working direction 18 and counter to this working direction by means of a pneumatically actuated piston-cylinder drive 17, in each case by the dimension s of a working step. On this carriage 16, in the vertical direction, that is, perpendicular to the working direction 18, actuatable, pneumatically actuatable piston-cylinder drives 19 are attached, the piston rods 2o of which have a transport plate 21, each with four pairs of drivers 22, the distance of each pair of drivers 22 from neighboring pair is equal to the dimension s of a work step. On the machine frame 12 itself, prismatic supports 23 are provided for the cartridges 14, between which the transport plate 21 with the drivers 22 of the rake 15 is arranged. A cartridge 14 is located in each pair of supports 23 during operation. In this position, the transport plate 21 is located somewhat below the supports 23. For further transport in the working direction 18 by the dimension s of a working step, the drives 19 are first acted upon in the vertical direction, so that the cartridges 14 are lifted out of the supports 23 upwards. Then the drive 17 is acted upon in such a way that it moves the entire slide 16 with the rake 15 in the working direction 18 by the dimension s. Then the drives 19 are acted on in such a way that the transport plate 21 with the drivers 22, that is to say the rake 15, is lowered downward, so that all the cartridges 14 are again placed in supports 23. The rake 15 is lowered so far that the driver 22 freely to the bottom of the cartridges lying in the pads 23 14 are. By reverse loading of the drive 17, the rake is then returned to its starting position. This method of raking 15 on a roughly rectangular path when viewed from the side means that the cartridges can always be transported one working step in the direction of work 18. In addition to the filling station 11 already mentioned, the workstations mentioned are a closing station 24 and optionally an embossing station 25, in which an impression is made on the cartridges 14. The closed cartridges 14 leave the machine 2 at the end opposite the magazine 13 via a discharge ramp 26. The closing station 24 is preceded by a sorting device 27 for pistons for closing the cartridges 14.

The filling station 11 has a tubular filling valve 28 in its outer shape, the central longitudinal axis 29 of which runs parallel to the central longitudinal axes 30 of the cartridges 14 lying on the supports 23. The outer diameter D of the filling valve 28 is somewhat smaller than the inner diameter d of the cartridges 14, so that they can be pushed completely over the filling valve 28 for filling with pasty material. As far as the system is described so far, it is known and widespread. As can be seen in particular in FIG. 5, the machine frame 12 is covered on its upper side by means of two cover plates 31, 32 which support the supports 23 on their mutually facing edges and between which the rake 15 is arranged. Both the filling station 11 associated supports 23 are each associated with a lifting device 33 which has a lifting drive 34 designed as a piston-cylinder drive, the cylinder 35 of which is attached to the underside of the cover plate 31 and 32, respectively. A receptacle 37 is attached to each piston rod 36, by means of which the corresponding cartridge 14 can be gripped from below. The cartridge 14 located in the associated supports 23 can thus be lifted out of these supports 23 by appropriate pneumatic action on the lifting drives 34 and transported upwards to a holding and centering device 38 for the cartridge located above. In this upper position, the cartridge 14 is shown in broken lines in FIG. 5.

This holding and centering device 38 has a cylindrical section-shaped system 39 adapted to the shape of the cartridge, in which the cylindrical, thin-walled and easily deformable cartridge 14 is centered such that its axis 30 is aligned with the axis 29 of the filling valve 28. The end of the cartridge 14, which is opposite to the filling valve 28 and is already closed, bears against a stop serving as a locking device 4o. The cartridge 14 is held in the system 39 by means of two vacuum suction holders 41, only one of which is shown on the left in FIG. 5. These vacuum suction holders 41 each have a bellows-type suction hose 42, the lower open end 43 of which protrudes beyond the cylindrical section-shaped contact surfaces 43 of the system 39. Air is drawn in through this open end 43 via an only indicated vacuum line 45. If with the already described Lifting the cartridge 14 by means of the lifting device 33 the top of the cartridge comes against the two open ends 43 of the bellows-like suction hoses 42, then these open ends 43 are closed by the cartridge 14. As a result, the two suction hoses 42 contract due to the negative pressure prevailing in them, as a result of which the cartridge is drawn into the system 39 and centered and held there against the contact surface 44. For this purpose, these elastic bellows-like suction hoses 42 can also move transversely to their longitudinal direction, so that correct centering of the cartridge in the system 39 is ensured. A swivel lever 46 is arranged in the system 39 and is lifted by the cartridge 14 when it is drawn into the system 39. In the centered position of the cartridge 14 in the system 39, the pivoting lever is pivoted all the way up and thereby actuates a signal transmitter 47 which triggers a sequential control.

The holding and centering device 38 is attached to a tubular slide 48 which is arranged on a guide rod 49 so as to be displaceable parallel to the central longitudinal axes 29, 30. The guide rod 49 is fixedly attached to the frame 50 of the filling station 11, which in turn is attached to the machine frame 12. To drive the slide 48 and thus the holding and centering device 38, a displacement drive 51, designed as a pneumatically actuated piston-cylinder drive, is provided, the cylinder 52 of which is attached to the frame 50, while the piston rod 53 is connected to the slide 48. If, as mentioned, the signal transmitter 47 emits a signal by pivoting the pivot lever 46 up, then the cylinder 52 of the displacement drive 51 is acted upon by compressed air in such a way that the piston rod 53 is drawn into it, as a result of which the carriage 48 with the holding and centering device 38 is moved in this way - in FIGS. 4 and 5 to the left that the cartridge 14 located in the device 38 is pushed over the filling valve 28. The cylinder 52 is then relieved of pressure. At the same time, the filling of the cartridge 14 begins, in that the metering device 10 presses a corresponding amount of pasty material through the filling valve 28 into the cartridge. As a result of this filling pressure, the cartridge 14 is pushed down from the filling valve 28 in accordance with the degree of its filling, ie the holding and centering device 38 is moved together with the slide 48 in the opposite direction, whereby the piston rod 53 is pulled out of the cylinder 52 of the displacement drive 51 . At the end of the filling process, the cylinder 52 is still pressurized with compressed air in the direction of extension of the piston rod 53, so that the slide 48 with the device 38 and the filled cartridge 14 is returned to the starting position in which the cartridge 14 is free from the filling valve 28. The cartridge is then lowered into the supports 23 by venting the suction hoses 42 of the vacuum suction holder 41. The lifting drives 34 are acted on so that the cartridge 14 is lowered and placed in the supports 23 again. The cartridge is then transported one step further by means of the rake 15 in the manner already described, so that it comes into the closing station 24.

The described control processes are controlled on the one hand by a control panel 54 attached to the machine frame 12 and on the other hand by a central control device 55.
