When the oven has reached the required temperature the pizza dough is located on the top and cooked for approximately 4 to 5 minutes prefereably with the griller element of the oven on as well. It has been found in practice that the insert operates to good effect for particularly cooking pasta type dishes requiring intense heat of short duration. It is believed that the bevelled sides of the insert assist in allowing heat from the bottom of the oven to circulate more effectively around the insert and provide a heat radiation effect passing round the sides of the inserts into the top of the oven, as in the conventional domed pizza oven. Preferably the degree of bevel to the horizontal on the acute angle side, is 52°.
