Abstract

A massage tool has two parallel rollers mounted for free rotation in a manually operated housing, which is connected to a suitable vacuum source to create a vacuum in the space above the rollers. The two active rollers are mounted at a fixed distance between axes, the rollers being supported between two parallel walls at the lower or distal part of the housing. The walls define a chamber which is substantially the same height as the diameter of the rollers. The latter form a tangent substantially at a roof of the chamber, but there is a small clearance-a few hundredths of a millimeter-to permit rotation. The rollers project slightly beyond the lower or distal ends of the walls. The vacuum conduit is flared out somewhat at the roof of the chamber to spread evenly over the area between the rollers.

Description

The present invention relates to an improved apparatus for performing massage operations on all parts of the body.

Various massage techniques are used depending on the treatments to be performed. Generally speaking, it can be said that massage operations involve exerting constraints on the patient calling on pressure and / or displacement and / or pinching phenomena.

To date, various types of equipment have been proposed to facilitate the work of the massager as shown in particular by Swiss patent CH-A-168279, by patent US-A-3297024. In general, we can say that these devices allow to exert on the body an action of pressure, displacement, friction by vibration, suction ...

Recently, in these French patent applications No. 8504245 (publication 2579100) and 85.17026 (publication 2589726), the Applicant has proposed improved massage devices which make it possible to carry out massages of the "palpate-roll" type in a simple and effective manner. allowing to exert on the patient a continuous action causing not only a localized pinching but also a progressive displacement of the pinched area so as to cause a "rolling" and this, while exerting pressure. In general, the devices described in these patent applications essentially consist of two rollers mounted on a housing along parallel axes, the periphery of the rollers tangent to the underside of the housing, one of the rollers preferably being driven positively in rotation, said casing being connected to means making it possible to create a depression above the rollers.

In order to ensure the pinching of the skin, these rollers are mounted on the housing so that they can be moved apart and brought closer to one another to ensure the pinching action on the fold of skin formed.

Such devices give very good results but however imply the presence of means making it possible to ensure sealing when the rollers are moving.

However, we have found, and this is what is the subject of the present invention, a simplified device which also makes it possible to carry out such massages, without having to spread or bring the treatment rollers together and therefore making it possible to eliminate any additional means ensuring sealing such as valves, tilting shutters.

Such a solution is particularly suitable for the production of devices of small dimensions but it is obvious that this is not limiting.

In general, the invention therefore relates to a device which can be actuated manually, making it possible to carry out massages of the "feel-roll" type comprising, mounted inside a housing, two parallel rollers with smooth surface, mounted freely rotation in the housing, said housing being connected to means comprising a conduit whose end opens into the space between the rollers and which make it possible to create a vacuum in the housing and in the space between these rollers when the latter are applied against the patient's body, and is characterized in that:

The two active rollers are mounted at a fixed distance between two parallel lateral walls and perpendicular to the axes of the rollers, arranged perpendicular to the bottom of the housing, these two walls defining with said bottom and said rollers a chamber open to the face opposite to said bottom and of which the height is such that it corresponds substantially to the diameter of the rollers, said rollers being mounted on said side walls so that they bear against the side walls and are tangent with said bottom, and this with a slight clearance to allow their rotation while retaining the seal, their diameters being such that they protrude slightly relative to the lower edges of the side walls.

Avantageusement, en pratique:

  • ― la distance entre les deux rouleaux est sensiblement égale au diamètre de ces derniers;
  • ― lesdits rouleaux sont montés de manière amovible à l'intérieur de la chambre, afin de permettre le nettoyage;
Advantageously, in practice:
  • - The distance between the two rollers is substantially equal to the diameter of the latter;
  • - Said rollers are removably mounted inside the chamber, to allow cleaning;
  • - the housing unit carrying the rollers and handle enabling the device to be actuated is in one piece, the suction duct provided inside the handle and the end of which opens into the space between the rollers, comprising a connection making it possible to ensure the junction of the device with any suction source such as for example the tip of a conventional vacuum cleaner, vacuum source provided in hospitals.

  • ― la figure 1 est une vue en élévation d'un appareil conforme à l'invention;
  • ― la figure 2 est une vue en coupe selon l'axe AA de la figure 1 montrant en détail la structure d'un appareil conforme à l'invention;
The invention and the advantages which it brings will, however, be better understood thanks to the embodiment given below by way of indication but not limitation and which is illustrated by the appended diagrams in which:
  • - Figure 1 is an elevational view of an apparatus according to the invention;
  • - Figure 2 is a sectional view along the axis AA of Figure 1 showing in detail the structure of an apparatus according to the invention;
  • - Figure 3 is a section along the axis BB of Figure 2 showing the manner in which the active rollers are mounted inside the treatment head.

Bien entendu, la poignée (2) pourrait être rapportée au boitier (1).If we refer to the attached diagrams, the massage device according to the invention is in the form of an assembly essentially consisting of a housing (or head) designated by the general reference (1) and on which the treatment rollers are mounted, this box (1) being extended by a handle (2). In the example illustrated, the housing (1) and the handle (2) form a one-piece assembly and are obtained for example by molding a plastic material. Of course, the handle (2) could be attached to the housing (1).

According to the invention, the rollers (3, 4) are mounted at the base of the housing (1) inside a chamber (5) formed by two side walls (6, 7), parallel, and this with a fixed center distance E, the spacing between the rollers (3, 4) being able to be adapted as a function of the areas to be treated but being generally substantially equal to the diameter of said rollers. The mounting of the rollers (3, 4) inside the chamber (5) is preferably carried out so that it can be easily assembled and disassembled in order to be able to ensure the cleaning of the treatment head. The detail view (Figure 3) shows an embodiment of such a removable assembly. In such an embodiment, the roller (3) (similar assembly for the roller 4) is hollow and its mounting on the two walls (6, 7) is carried out by means of axes (8, 9) which come embed in spans (10, 11) provided on the walls (6, 7), these two axes (8, 9) being subjected to the action of an internal spring (12). As a result, the roller (3) (or 4) can rotate freely inside the bearings (10, 11). When it is desired to remove the rollers, it suffices to push, for example by means of pliers, the two axes (8, 9) one against the other so as to compress the spring (12), which allows to release the whole. Another solution for mounting the rollers (3, 4) between the two side walls (6, 7) is simply to provide grooves on said side walls allowing the passage of the ends of the axes of the rollers, the maintenance being provided by means clips. Of course, any other equivalent mounting method could be envisaged.

The rollers (3, 4) are mounted inside the chamber (5) so that their periphery comes to tangent with the internal face (13) of the chamber, a slight clearance (of the order of a few hundredths of millimeters) being however provided so that the rotation of the rollers (3, 4) can be done freely. Furthermore, the two rollers (3, 4) protrude slightly, of the order of a few tenths of a millimeter, relative to the lower edges (14, 15) of the side walls (6, 7) of the chamber (5).

In known manner, in the space between the two rollers (3, 4), a conduit (16) opens, the end (19) of which can be connected to a suction source (not shown). This conduit (16) is preferably constituted by an insert (18) attached to the inside of the handle (2) of the device. Preferably, this conduit (16) ends in a chamber (17), which can have a flared shape, and which extends over the entire space between the rollers.

The use of such a massage device is very simple, since it suffices to apply the underside of the treatment chamber so that, under the action of the suction produced inside the duct, the skin forms a fold between the rollers (3, 4), the rolling of this fold being obtained by the manipulator which by moving the device, causes the rotation of the rollers (3, 4).

It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above but that it covers all the variants produced in the same spirit. Thus, it could be envisaged to associate with the device means making it possible to vary the value of the vacuum created between the rollers as a function of the treatments to be carried out.
