Abstract

Process of manufacturing felts in which a batt is fastened to a felt on its one or two sides, said batt (5) consisting of one or several layers of fibers and characterized in that said layers are obtained from carding the fibers and possibly preneedling them by passage through a preneedling machine with low density needles, said layers being densified by at least three passages through a needling machine (1) with high needle density, and at least one of those passages going in the opposite direction of the others, said batt (5) created in such a way then being fastened to the felt (10). The wet felt obtained in this way has very good cohesion and very high resistance, and the felt is neither damaged nor filled with fibers, which provides it with good air and water permeability. The invention also relates to a machine to densify batts.

Description

The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of wet stationery felts in which a web consisting of one or more fiber veils is fixed on at least one of the sides of a canvas.

In known methods, the attachment to the canvas is by needling. These methods are of two types.

According to a first type, successive layers of fiber veils emerging from a card are deposited directly on the base stretched over the needling machine. The canvas is in continuous motion and passes under the head of needles so that the tablecloth deposited is needled in the canvas immediately.

According to the second type, a sheet is prefabricated which will then be deposited on the base and needled on it. In this case, the veil of fibers emerging from the card is deposited on a moving carpet which brings the sheet formed of successive layers under the needle head of a pre-needling machine which gives a cohesion making it possible to form a roll of sheets which will be then unrolled on the canvas in the needling machine to form the felt.

To be able to fix the tablecloths correctly on the canvas and give them good cohesion, it is necessary to provide a thorough needling of these tablecloths on the canvas.

However, the inventors have noticed that by doing so the canvas on the one hand deteriorates by penetration of the needles and on the other hand is blocked by the fibers of the sheet which greatly reduces the characteristics of air permeability and 'water.

The method according to the invention making it possible to avoid the use of a deep needling is characterized in that said webs obtained by carding the fibers and possibly pre-needled by a passage through a pre-needling machine having a low needle density are densified by at least three passages in a needling machine with a high density of needles, at least one of the passages ensuring needling in the opposite direction to the others, said ply thus formed being then fixed to the canvas.

The sheets thus densified have a very high resistance in the direction of the length and the width.

We can therefore fix these sheets by a light needling on the canvas or even possibly fix them by chemical and / or thermal bonding by welding.

It is no longer necessary to subject the canvas coated with plies with numerous needling passages in order to give the plies cohesion; one or two passes are sufficient.

In the case of open wet felt, the existence of a densified sheet makes it possible to produce a flap covering the junction zone which is sufficiently resistant.

To further increase the resistance of the plies, they are armed during their manufacture of fibers and / or resistant wires depending on the direction of the machine and / or crosswise.

The invention also relates to a machine for densifying the plies, characterized in that it comprises a needling machine with a head with a high density of needles, means for receiving the needled ply at the outlet of the needling machine, comprising a removable roller driven in rotation on which is wound the web leaving the needling machine, means for feeding the needling machine comprising a removable roller identical to the roller disposed at the outlet on which the already needled web can be wound and means in translation to bring this sheet under the head of the needling machine, said output roller can be driven in both directions of rotation.

The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to a particular embodiment cited by way of nonlimiting example and represented by the accompanying drawings.
  • FIG. 1 represents a machine for densifying the layers according to the invention.
  • FIG. 2 represents a particular operation of the machine of FIG. 1.
  • FIG. 3 represents a felt made according to the method of the invention.

Figure 1 shows a tablecloth densification machine which comprises a needling machine 1, provided with a head 2 of high density needles. This 40 cm wide head will have approximately 3,000 needles per meter of length. Note that in the low density pre-needling machines there are only 1000 needles per meter in length for a head 40 cm wide.

La tête 2 est disposée au-dessus d'une matrice 3.The head 2 is arranged above a matrix 3.

Un tapis 4 sert à amener la nappe 5 entre tête 2 et matrice 3.A mat 4 is used to bring the sheet 5 between head 2 and matrix 3.

La nappe aiguilletée 5 s'enroule autour du rouleau 6.At the outlet of the needling machine, a roller 6 is arranged driven by motor rollers 7. The needled web 5 is wound around the roller 6.

A l'entrée on a disposé un rouleau 8 de même taille que le rouleau 6 au-dessus du tapis 4.At the entrance, a roller 8 of the same size as the roller 6 was placed above the carpet 4.

The rollers 6 and 8 are removable and identical and the rollers 7 can change the direction of rotation.

On a prévu également d'autre rouleaux 9 à l'entrée au dessus du tapis.Other rollers 9 are also provided at the entrance above the carpet.

Le fonctionnement de la machine selon l'invention est le suivant:The operation of the machine according to the invention is as follows:

A pre-needled ply 5 is placed around the roller 8. This ply 5 is unwound between the head 2 and the matrix 3 of the needling machine which also needles, for example the location of the ply. This ply 5 is wound around the roller 6. The roller 6 is dismantled and put in place of the roller 8, the roller 8 which is empty takes the place of the roller 6.

A new passage of the tablecloth is made through the needling machine 1 needling this time the reverse side of the tablecloth.

However, the output roller is rotated in the opposite direction (see FIG. 2) so that the third and last pass will allow needling of the reverse side of the web like the second pass.

It has in fact been noted that very good densification is obtained by needling the last two passages in the same direction, which is the opposite direction from the needling of the antepenultimate passage before the end of the treatment.

For the first passage when starting from several sails and not from a pre-needled web, these sails are wound on the rollers 8 and 9 and are unwound by the belt 4 under the head 2 of the needling machine 1.

Once the upper (5) and / or lower (5 ′) plies have been densified, this ply or plies are fixed to a canvas (10) by needling or possibly gluing.

To finish the felt it is only necessary to provide one or two additional needling passes which avoids damaging the canvas and closing it with fibers.

A n° 15105.It is also possible to manufacture closed felts but also open felts as described for example in document EU-A No. 15105.
