Abstract

There is one process for producing a decorative laminate plate preferably used in the manufacture of furniture or wall coverings. A disadvantage of these decorative laminate plates is that they are not suitable for outdoor use, since their surfaces are not weather resistant. The object of the invention is to provide a decorative laminate plate resistant to weathering. For this purpose, a protective resinous fluid layer (4), weather resistant, is applied to the surface of the decorative paper strip (3) which forms the decorative surface of the plate. The resin chosen is capable of crosslinking when an additive is added to it or else under the action of air and light, thus forming a durable and cohesive protective layer (4).

Dekorative Schichtpreßstoffplatte und Verfahren zu deren HerstellungDecorative laminated sheet and process for its manufacture
The invention relates to a decorative laminated sheet according to the preamble of claim 1, and to a method for producing such a laminated sheet.
- 2 -Such decorative laminated sheets are particularly preferred in the manufacture of furniture and the interior of buildings. To form these decorative laminated sheets, a core is formed from resin-impregnated kraft papers, which are placed on top of one another in a stack. To form a decorative surface, at least one colored or printed paper web impregnated with a synthetic resin is placed on top of this stack. The stack thus formed is then pressed at a predeterminable temperature and a corresponding pressure. - 2 -
Attempts to use these decorative laminated panels also outdoors have failed so far that they cannot be manufactured to be weatherproof. The action of sunlight, moisture and the rapid changes in temperature in our latitudes lead to the destruction of the resin layer with which the decorative paper web is impregnated and coated. Attempts to protect the decorative paper web by means of a transparent, weather-resistant film made from acrylic or methacrylic acid ester or from a modified polyphenyl chloride have not proven to be so advantageous since these films are very thin and brittle. This creates difficulties when these foils are placed on the decorative paper web or on their resin layer, which lead to a complex manufacturing process. It cannot be ruled out that there may be cracks and breaks in these foils, so that a large production committee is the result of this process.
The invention is therefore based on the object of creating a weather-protected decorative laminate, and of demonstrating a method for producing such a decorative laminate.
The object relating to the method is solved by the features of patent claim 1.
A weather-resistant decorative laminate is disclosed in claim 9.
HALS- Produkte (sterisch gehinderte Amine), erwiesen. Die zugesetzten Mengen liegen bei 2 bis 6 Gew. , bezogen auf - 4 -According to the invention, an acrylic resin or methacrylic resin is applied to the resin-coated surface of the decor paper web. layer applied by means of a cup roller or a doctor device. The applied resin layer is then dried in a forced air drying duct. Before the acrylic resin layer is applied, the decorative paper web is impregnated with melamine formaldehyde resin. Preferably 80 to 85% melamine-formaldehyde resin based on the basis weight of the base paper is applied to such a decorative paper web. This decorative paper web is then dried to such an extent that it still has a moisture content of 7 to 8%. Then the surface of the decorative paper web facing outwards is coated with about 20 to 30 grams of acrylic resin / sqm. The acrylic resin is dissolved in butyl acetate. The solution preferably contains 60% by weight acrylic resin, based on the total weight of the solution. Thus, the acrylic resin after applying to cure the melamine layer of the decorative paper web, the solution is added 26 Gew.J an aliphatic polyisocyanate tables, based on the total weight of the solution. Such a solution has a hydroxide content of 1.7 to 1.8% by weight OH based on the total weight of the solution. This corresponds to a hydroxide number of 50 to 60 per mg per g K0H. Instead of an acrylic resin layer which crosslinks with the aid of an aliphatic polyisocyanate, an aqueous self-crosslinking acrylic resin dispersion can also be applied to the decorative paper web impregnated with melamine resin with 80 to 85%, which has dried to 7 to Q % moisture. The acrylic resin dispersion contains 50 wt. Acrylic resin based on the total weight of the dispersion. The addition of UV absorbers, for example benzotriazole derivatives, and antioxidants, for example HALS products (sterically hindered amines), has proven advantageous. The amounts added are 2 to 6% by weight, based on - 4 -
A further possibility for the formation of a weather-resistant protective layer consists in that an acrylic resin layer is applied to a decorative paper web soaked with 80 to 85% with melamine resin and which has dried to 7 to 8% moisture, which is influenced by UV light or cross-linked by electron beam curing. After the weather-resistant protective layer has been formed on the surface of the decorative paper web, it is pressed with the core of the decorative laminate for a permanent connection.
Further features essential to the invention are characterized in the subclaims.
The structure * of the decorative laminate made by the process according to the invention is explained in more detail with reference to a figure.
The only figure belonging to the following description shows a decorative laminate which is essentially formed by a core 2, a decorative paper web 3 and a weather-resistant protective layer 4. As can be seen from the figure, the core 2 is formed by a plurality of, preferably 5 to 9, stacked kraft paper webs 2P which are impregnated with a phenolic resin. A decorative paper web 3 is placed on this core 2 to form a decorative surface. This is also impregnated with a resin, preferably a melamine formaldehyde resin. In addition, this decorative paper web 3 is colored or printed. The weather-resistant protective layer 4 is arranged on the surface of this decorative paper web 3. to Formation of this weather-resistant protective layer, the decorative paper web 3 is first impregnated with a melamine formaldehyde resin. For this purpose the Dekorpapier¬ is ground with a resin solution impregnated, about 80 to 85 wt. Melamine-formaldehyde resin, based on 'the Flächen¬ weight of the base paper contains. The decorative paper web 3 is then dried, to the extent that it only has a moisture content of 7 to 8%. Then the decorative paper web is covered with the weather-resistant protective layer. The protective layer 4 is preferably applied only to the surface of the decorative paper web 3 which later forms the surface of the decorative laminated sheet. If the decorative laminated sheet 1 is intended for outdoor areas • that are exposed to extreme weather conditions, such as all-day sunshine or a strong temperature change not only during the year but also during the day, the decorative paper web 3 can also be used on its downward-facing surface with the Protective layer 4 are coated (not shown here). In general, a symmetrical structure of the plates is recommended, since this prevents warping problems. In this case, a decorative paper web 3 is applied to both surfaces of the core 2. The core 2 and the decorative paper webs 3 can be treated with a flame retardant if necessary.
To form the protective layer 4, a resin solution is applied at least to the surface of each decorative paper web 3 in such a way that the coating has 20 to 30 g per square meter of resin. If a polyisocyanate-crosslinkable acrylic resin is used to form the weather-resistant protective layer 4, butyl acetate is preferably used as the solvent. The resin solution contains 60% by weight of acrylic resin based on the total weight of the solution. As an additive, this resin solution contains an aliphatic polyisocyanate. The resin solution preferably has 26% by weight of polyisocyanate, based on the total amount of the solution. The resin solution in the amount described above is applied to the surface of the decorative paper web with the aid of a cup roller or a doctor blade device. The paper web is then dried in a circulating air drying duct. Then the paper web is placed on the core 2. Subsequently, the kraft paper webs, which form the core 2, are pressed with the decorative paper web 3. After this stack has been pressed, the decorative laminated sheet 1 with its weather-protected surface is finished and can be processed further . * In place of the polyisocyanate-crosslinkable acrylic resin may also be an aqueous self-crosslinking acrylic resin dispersion used to form the protective layer witterungsbeständi¬ gen. 4 In this case, the decorative paper 3 impregnated with the melamine formaldehyde resin is in turn dried to such an extent that it still has a moisture content of between 7 and 8 $.
