Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device for automatically raising and lowering the adjustable movable elements of armchairs and beds and intended in particular, in the case of armchairs and beds for the sick, to allow the actuation by these of these adjustable elements without requiring a special effort on their part.
  • FR 1 542 464 a device has been proposed for lowering and lifting the adjustable elements of armchairs and beds, which use a gas spring, infinitely adjustable and actuated by a joystick.
  • a gas spring is in fact advantageous because such a spring is, by virtue of its particular structure, always able to keep the element to be adjusted substantially in balance. Therefore, it is sufficient, after release of the jack, by the person on the bed or the seat, to exert a relatively small force to cause a break in balance and allow the movement of the element to be adjusted in the desired direction .
  • a gas spring is much less expensive than the motors or hydraulic systems used until now.
  • the device of this FR 1 542 464 it is necessary for the person, sitting on the seat or lying on the bed, to exert a certain effort in the abdominal muscles in particular, to lower or raise the mobile element.
  • the device can therefore not be used by people who are very weak in bed and who have only weak abdominal muscles.
  • this FR 1 542 464 only shows an exemplary embodiment for the tilting of a bed backrest and shows a very complicated gas cylinder control system.
  • the object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to provide a device for automatically raising and lowering the adjustable elements of armchairs and beds, which can be used by a patient, without requiring any effort on the part of the latter. and without the assistance of a third person.
  • the object of the present invention is also to provide a control system for the adjustment device which is directly accessible by the patient, even if it is for example, the lower part of the bed or seat, that is to say say the part of it intended to receive the lower limbs of the patient.
  • the device according to the invention which is of the type comprising a self-locking gas spring associated with each movable element of the seat or bed and arranged so as to allow, by its elongation, the lifting of this movable element, in that 'Each gas spring is associated with a mass acting in opposition to it and able to be moved so as to compensate at rest the force of the gas spring relative to the weight of the person bearing on this mobile element.
  • the gas spring must be chosen so as to exert an effort that can take into account different weights of people.
  • the fact of providing a compensating mass makes it possible to perfectly balance the action of the gas spring and that of the movable element at rest, so that a very slight relief of this movable element will be sufficient to allow the extension of the jack and displacement of the movable element.
  • the compensation mass is mounted so that it can be moved, in the direction of the articulation of the movable element on the seat or the bed, simultaneously with the actuation of the release command of the gas spring.
  • This embodiment is particularly advantageous in the case of mobile elements serving as a footrest, due to the weight of the legs and the significant muscular effort required at the level of the abdominal muscles to lift them.
  • FIG. 1 The figures show the application of the device according to the invention to a patient bed.
  • This bed is formed of a frame consisting of a rectangular frame 2 and feet 3.
  • On the frame 2 are articulated two movable elements 4 and 5 intended to serve respectively as headrests and footrests.
  • Each of these elements 4-5 is articulated at the central part of the bed along axes of articulation respectively 6 and 7. It will be noted here that only the structure of the bed is shown in the figures and that the elements such as box spring and mattresses have been removed for simplicity.
  • a gas spring 8 is articulated between a cross member 9, located at the lower part, that is to say the one where the footrest 5 is located, of the bed and the element headrest 4 proper.
  • This spring is arranged so as to cause its upward tilting of the element 4 by rotation about its axis 6.
  • the articulation of this spring 8 is carried out in a manner known per se by means of yokes 10.
  • a lever 11 allows the gas spring 8, which is a self-locking type spring, to be set in motion.
  • This lever 11 is connected to an axis 12 extending transversely and provided at its free end with a finger 13 which is capable of urging the end of the rod 8a of the gas spring 8 to cause the extension thereof .
  • FIG. 3 shows the detail of the embodiment of this actuating finger 13.
  • the latter engages in a slot 14 formed in a cylindrical sleeve 15 through which projects the rod 8a of the gas spring 8 and which is articulated on the cross member 9 by means of the yoke 10. It will easily be understood that the pivoting of the lever 11 will cause the pivoting of the finger 13 and consequently the actuation of the rod 8a of the gas spring.
  • a bar 19 On the headrest element 4 is also arranged, on one of the sides 4a thereof, a bar 19 extending parallel to this side. On this bar 19 a mass 16 is slidably mounted. This mass 16 can be moved by means of a handle 17 and can be locked in a determined position by means of a screw 18. This mass 16 makes it possible to calibrate the device for lifting the headrest element in depending on the weight of the person lying on the bed.
  • a graduated scale 20 can be arranged for this purpose on the frame 2 of the bed parallel to the bar 19, this scale being calibrated in kg and graduated for example from 10 to 130 kg.
  • a security system may also be provided to maintain the headrest element 4 in the raised position.
  • This security system consists of a rod 25 articulated at its upper end 25a on the frame of the element mobile 4 and can be blocked at its lower end 25b on the frame 2 of the bed, by means of a butterfly screw 26 or the like. This blocking can be carried out for example by medical personnel.
  • the operation of the lifting device for the headrest element 4 is as follows: once the patient is in place on the bed, a calibration according to the weight thereof is carried out by displacement of the mass 16 along the bar 19.
  • a calibration according to the weight thereof is carried out by displacement of the mass 16 along the bar 19.
  • the lever 11 When the patient wishes to raise this element 4 from the low position, it suffices to actuate the lever 11 and slightly straighten the head in order to discharge the gas spring (8), this action being sufficient to allow the extension of the spring once it is released.
  • the actuation of this lever in fact causes the displacement of the rod of the gas spring 8 as indicated above and consequently causes the rotation of the element 4 around its axis 6 under the action of this gas spring.
  • the raising of the footrest element 5 can be carried out in the same way using a gas spring 28.
  • This spring 28 is articulated between a cross member 29 located at the upper part of the bed, that is to say ie that where the headrest element 4 is located, and the footrest element 5 itself.
  • the articulation of this spring 28 on the cross-member 29 and the element 5 is also produced in a manner known per se by means of yokes 10.
  • a handle 31 allows the actuation of this gas spring 28.
  • This handle 31 is fixed to one end of an axis 32 extending transversely to the frame 2 of the bed and rotatably mounted thereon.
  • On this axis 32 is fixed, in rotationally integral manner, a U-shaped stirrup 33.
  • On the bottom of this stirrup 33 rests an actuating rod 34 having substantially the shape of an L whose curved part 34a is engaged in a sleeve 36 which makes it possible to connect the rod 28a of the gas spring to the yoke 10 for fixing the latter on the cross-member 29.
  • the stirrup 33 also pivots and thereby causes the rotation of the actuating rod 34.
  • the actuating rod 34 exerts by its curved part 34a a push to the end of the gas spring rod as previously explained in connection with the gas spring 8, and causes the release of this gas spring.
  • the actuating rod 34 also has several recesses 35 (in this case 4 in the example of the drawing) whose role will be explained below.
  • Below the footrest element 5 are arranged two parallel bars 40 extending in the longitudinal direction of this element.
  • a mass 41 is slidably mounted along these bars 40.
  • This mass 41 is moreover connected to the axis 32 by means of a rod 43 and a connecting rod 44 on which this rod is articulated. Therefore, the displacement of the mass 41 along the bars 40 is controlled by the actuation of the lever 31.
  • the operation of the lifting device of the footrest element 5 is as follows: when the patient wishes to raise this element 5 he actuates the lever 31. This actuation has the effect of causing the displacement of the mass 41 in direction of the hinge pin 7 thereof. Therefore, the moment relative to the axis 7 exerted by this mass 41 decreases and from a certain value becomes sufficiently low to allow the gas spring 28 to cause the upward movement of this element 5 by rotation relative to its axis 7.
  • this mass 41 which acts in antagonism with the spring 28, makes it possible to obtain compensation for the weight of the patient relative to the force exerted by the gas spring 28.
  • the gas spring 28 must be chosen so as to be powerful enough to allow the lifting of the footrest element when a person of high weight is on it. Consequently, the mass 41 makes it possible for a person of a lower weight to compensate for the difference in force opposing that of the gas spring 28.
  • the additional weight caused by the mass 41 must be reduced if the '' we want to raise the footrest element 5, which is achieved by moving this mass 41 in the direction of the axis of articulation. This arrangement therefore allows a patient to raise the footrest element of his bed without having to exert any effort to raise these legs, which is particularly advantageous especially in the case of a patient with poor abdominal strength.
  • the patient would be obliged, to raise the element 5, to lift his legs, and therefore to exert a certain muscular effort to allow a displacement by means of the springs to gas.
  • the recesses 35 make it possible to trigger actuation of the spring 28 only from a certain position of the mass 41 depending on the weight of the person. Indeed, as long as the mass 41 is in a position such that its force will oppose the movement of the gas spring, the stirrup 33 will pass over the recesses 35 without causing a rotation of the actuating rod 34 due to the fact of the system gas spring self-locking 28.
  • the lever 31 makes it possible to pivot the axis 32 fixed at the end of a crosspiece 45 situated under the chassis 2.
  • This axis 32 is provided with two bosses 32a 32b provided for rotate the smooth rod 46 for unlocking the spring 28.
  • the present invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments shown above.
  • the mass 41 at the level of the footrest element 5 could be mounted movable along one side of the bed as in the case of the mass 16 and that a blocking system similar to the rod 25 could also be provided for this element 5.
  • the mass 16 could be designed so as to be displaced, in order to lighten the effort exerted on the spring 28, at the same time as the latter is released so as to here also eliminate any effort for the patient .
  • the displacement of one or the other of the two masses (16,41) could also be obtained by rotation of a micrometric screw on which these masses move, such a system allowing a continuous adjustment of the position of the two masses .
  • a notch system with spring-loaded ball may also be provided between the mass 41 and the rod 40 on which it slides to adjust the position of the weight discontinuously.
  • stirrup actuation system 33 of the rod 34 may be replaced by an eccentric system carried by the axis 32 and the rod 34 may have only two recesses 35 corresponding to extreme weight values.
  • the device according to the invention can also be used without the masses 16,41, which are intended solely to reduce the force exerted by the user. In this case, of course, the user will have to make a certain effort to raise or lower the different moving parts.
  • the device according to the invention can also be adopted for raising movable elements of seats or the like and is not limited to raising movable elements of bed. It is easy to see the advantage of the device according to the invention which can be easily handled by anyone, even a very weak or disabled person.
