Diese bekannten Verfahren hatten den Nachteil, daß die Ecken an den beiden Enden des Buchblockrückens von der gekrümmten Oberfläche der verwendeten Leimwalzen nicht oder nicht sauber und vollständig erfaßt wurden und deshalb entweder keinen oder aber einen unzureichenden Leimauftrag erhielten. Aus der Position 1 (POS. 1) heraus wird der inzwischen taktgerecht in die erforderliche Position gebrachte nächste Buchblock rückenseitig beleimt.   4. Apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the pad (28) has the form of a yieldable hollow body.
  5. Apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the pad (28) is exchangeably mounted on a support (31) which is adapted to be raised and lowered in a plane and is simultaneously pivotal in a plane perpendicular thereto.
  6. Apparatus according to claim 5, characterized by a cam mechanism (25, 26, 30) for pivoting the glue pad (28) from a position (POS. 1) above the inner book back to be glued to a position (POS. 2) for taking up glue from the glue scoop roll (22).
  7. Apparatus according to claim 6, characterized in that the cam mechanism consists of a pressure cylinder (25), a cam disc (26) and a cam roller (30) and that the cam roller (30) is mounted in a pivotally mounted glue plunger (24).
  8. Apparatus according to claim 7, characterized in that also mounted on the glue plunger (24) is a pressure cylinder (27) which acts on a thrust rod (32) to which the support (31) carrying the pad (28) is secured.
  9. Apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 8, characterized by a means (20, 21) for metering the amount of glue taken up by the scoop roll (22) and to be dispensed by said scoop roll (22) to the pad (28).
  10. Apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 9, characterized by a means (29) for adjusting the position of the glue pad (28) with respect to the position and dimensions of the inner book back.
  11. Book production machine containing an apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 10.
  12. Method of gluing inner book backs in which glue is transferred from the glue-carrying surface of a glue application element to the back surface of the inner books to be glued, characterized in that the glue application element is moved perpendicularly to the back surface of the inner books and that as glue application element an elastically deformable pad is used.
  13. Method according to claim 12, characterized by the use of an apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 10.
