Description

The invention relates to a sabot projectile with a sabot rear, to which a fastening sleeve is attached via a predetermined breaking point, which is divided into segments by slots, with a projectile core which has a cylindrical middle part, a conical tip and a conical rear part, and with its rear part protrudes into the fastening sleeve of the sabot rear, and with a sabot jacket, which is anchored to the sabot rear, surrounds the fastening sleeve and is divided into segments by slots.

In a known sabot projectile of this type (see GH-A-536 481), the projectile body has a circumferential groove on its rear part protruding into the fastening sleeve and on the inside of the fastening sleeve there are arranged cams which project radially inwards and protrude into the circumferential groove the mounting sleeve are in one piece.

A disadvantage of this known sabot projectile is the circumferential groove in the projectile body or projectile core, which undesirably increases the air resistance.

In another known sabot projectile of this type (see GB-A-576 217), the sabot consists of two parts which are connected to one another via a predetermined breaking point, these two parts being displaceable relative to one another when the projectile is fired under the action of the inertial forces. The projectile body is supported on the rear part of the sabot and the front part of the sabot lies against the tip of the projectile body and consists of segments which disintegrate when the sabot emerges from the muzzle and release the projectile core.

The disadvantage of this other known sabot projectile is that the sabot rear must either be in two parts so that the Gechosskem can be fastened in the sabot rear, or that the sabot jacket must be used to fasten the projectile core to the sabot rear.

The object that is to be achieved by the invention is to create a sabot projectile in which the projectile core is fastened in the sabot rear regardless of the sabot jacket without circumferential grooves in the projectile core for fastening the projectile core in the sabot rear and without the sabot jacket Attachment of the projectile core in the sabot rear contributes somewhat.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the fastening sleeve of the sabot tail extends to the conical tip of the projectile core and bears against this conical tip in order to prevent the projectile core from falling out of the sabot tail.

This type of attachment of the projectile core to the sabot rear has the advantage that the sabot rear holds the projectile core directly without the aid of the sabot casing, which means that relatively light material can be used for this casing.

An embodiment of the sabot projectile according to the invention is described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing. The only figure in the drawing shows a longitudinal section through the sabot projectile according to the invention.

This sabot projectile 10 has a projectile core 11, which is preferably made of heavy metal. This projectile core 11 has a conical rear part 12 and a conical tip 13. The conical rear part 12 and the conical tip 13 consist of one piece with a cylindrical middle part 14. The projectile core 11 is in an annular sabot rear 15, which is preferably made of light metal, in particular aluminum. The sabot rear 15 has various circumferential grooves on the outside. A first circumferential groove 16 serves essentially for anchoring a cartridge case, not shown, which is filled with a propellant charge. A second circumferential groove 17 serves essentially to anchor a sabot jacket 18, which is preferably made of plastic. The sleeve-shaped sabot jacket 18 consists of several segments which are connected to one another by thin webs 19. When the sabot projectile 10 emerges, the surface mirror jacket 18 disintegrates under the effect of the swirl, the individual segments along the webs 19 separating from one another. The sabot jacket 18 has at its rear end a guide band 20 which projects into the above-mentioned circumferential groove 17 of the sabot rear 15 and serves to seal off the propellant gases and to anchor the sabot jacket 18 to the sabot rear 15. At the front end of the sabot jacket 18, a protective hood 21 is attached, which is preferably made of plastic and is anchored with a bead 22 in a circumferential groove 23 of the sabot jacket 18. The sabot tail 15 has a fastening sleeve 24 which bears against the cylindrical middle part 14 and partly against the conical tip 13 of the projectile core 11. The fastening sleeve 24 is divided by a number of slots 25 into segments which are fastened to the sabot rear part 15 via a predetermined breaking point 26. This predetermined breaking point 26 is formed by an inner circumferential groove 27 which is so deep that the individual segments of the fastening sleeve 24 break off when the sabot projectile 10 is fired under the action of the swirl.

At the front end, the fastening sleeve 24 has a ring 28 which is anchored in the sabot jacket 18. This ring 28 is also divided into individual segments by the slots 25 mentioned. To insert the projectile core 11 into the sabot rear 15 and into the fastening sleeve 24, the individual segments of the fastening sleeve 24 can be bent radially to the extent that the projectile core 11 can be inserted into the fastening sleeve 24 from the front.
