- the present invention relates to the preparation of a molding paste based on alginates, plaster or similar substances, this preparation being carried out by mixing a powder of alginates, plaster or similar substances with water and the pastes obtained being used in dentistry and in particular, as regards alginates, for molding dental impressions and, as regards other substances mainly mixtures of plaster with silica, silicates or phosphates for molding of compensating coatings.
- These pastes must be absolutely homogeneous and have no gas bubbles included.
- FR-A-1,473,563 which relates to the same field of the technique proceeds, in a first chamber, to a vacuum spatulation then, to improve the elimination of gas inclusions and the homogenization, transfers the mixture into a second chamber in which the dough is subjected simultaneously to mechanical vibrations and vacuum. It is indeed known, in particular in the concrete technique, that the vibration improves the homogeneity of the doughs.
- This known method for preparing a vacuum dough which performs the mixing in a first enclosure and the vibration in a second enclosure has many practical drawbacks such as in particular the need to transfer from one enclosure to another during of the preparation process. It also has other drawbacks with regard to the homogeneity of the mixture and the presence in the final mixture of very fine gas bubbles.
- the first of these drawbacks is due to the fact that the mixer or spatulator has dead zones, in particular the surface layer which adheres to the wall of the bowl and to the blades of the spatulator, zones in which there is no mechanical mixing of the dough.
- the second of these drawbacks results from the low amplitude of the mechanical vibrations which is insufficient to ensure a circulation of the fine gas bubbles causing a coalescence increasing their volume until giving them a sufficient upward force in particular in a viscous paste.
- the present invention results from the discovery that it is possible to avoid all of these drawbacks.
- the process according to the invention for preparing a paste by mixing at least one constituent substance in the form of a powder with at least one constituent substance in liquid form, mechanical mixing of the mixture under vacuum and setting in vibration vacuum mixing is characterized in that the mixture is subjected to a vibration field during at least the final phase of mechanical mixing.
- the mixture is, first of all vibrated then after placing under vacuum, mechanically kneaded.

- the fine gas bubbles are subjected by the effect of vibrations to rapid cycles of compression-depression which facilitate their circulation in the dough but they are at the same time put into circulation by mechanical stirring, which promotes coalescence in the form of larger bubbles with higher upward force and speed.
- the vertical or horizontal direction of the vibrations that is to say parallel or perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the mixer, is chosen according to the density and the viscosity of the dough.
- the constituent substances in particular the water which constitutes the liquid, are used at a low temperature close to the freezing point of the liquid.

- the present invention also relates to a device for implementing the method, this device comprising a base, a bowl having a shape of revolution carried by this base, a cover which closes this bowl tightly, a delivery line vacuum opening under the underside of the cover and connected at its other end to a vacuum source and mixing blades carried by an axis passing through the cover, the axis being connected by a connecting member with a rotary drive motor and the device being characterized in that the bowl is suspended under the lid and secured in a removable manner with the latter with means for imparting vibrations to the assembly of the lid and of the bowl via the lid.
