Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the preparation of a molding paste based on alginates, plaster or similar substances, this preparation being carried out by mixing a powder of alginates, plaster or similar substances with water and the pastes obtained being used in dentistry and in particular, as regards alginates, for molding dental impressions and, as regards other substances mainly mixtures of plaster with silica, silicates or phosphates for molding of compensating coatings.
  • These pastes must be absolutely homogeneous and have no gas bubbles included.
  • FR-A-1,473,563 which relates to the same field of the technique proceeds, in a first chamber, to a vacuum spatulation then, to improve the elimination of gas inclusions and the homogenization, transfers the mixture into a second chamber in which the dough is subjected simultaneously to mechanical vibrations and vacuum. It is indeed known, in particular in the concrete technique, that the vibration improves the homogeneity of the doughs.
  • This known method for preparing a vacuum dough which performs the mixing in a first enclosure and the vibration in a second enclosure has many practical drawbacks such as in particular the need to transfer from one enclosure to another during of the preparation process. It also has other drawbacks with regard to the homogeneity of the mixture and the presence in the final mixture of very fine gas bubbles.
  • the first of these drawbacks is due to the fact that the mixer or spatulator has dead zones, in particular the surface layer which adheres to the wall of the bowl and to the blades of the spatulator, zones in which there is no mechanical mixing of the dough.
  • the second of these drawbacks results from the low amplitude of the mechanical vibrations which is insufficient to ensure a circulation of the fine gas bubbles causing a coalescence increasing their volume until giving them a sufficient upward force in particular in a viscous paste.
  • the present invention results from the discovery that it is possible to avoid all of these drawbacks.
  • the process according to the invention for preparing a paste by mixing at least one constituent substance in the form of a powder with at least one constituent substance in liquid form, mechanical mixing of the mixture under vacuum and setting in vibration vacuum mixing is characterized in that the mixture is subjected to a vibration field during at least the final phase of mechanical mixing.
  • the mixture is, first of all vibrated then after placing under vacuum, mechanically kneaded.
  • This setting in vibration before kneading promotes the imbibition of the powder by the liquid before spatulation.
  • the frequency of the vibrations can be between 50 and 15,000 Hz, preferably between 2,000 and 8,000 Hz and their amplitude between 0.1 and 5 mm.
  • the vibration of the kneaded mass during the spatula peels off the surface layers of the walls and pushes them back into the zone subjected to the flow and the rolling of the dough fillets due to mechanical stirring.
  • the fine gas bubbles are subjected by the effect of vibrations to rapid cycles of compression-depression which facilitate their circulation in the dough but they are at the same time put into circulation by mechanical stirring, which promotes coalescence in the form of larger bubbles with higher upward force and speed.
  • the vertical or horizontal direction of the vibrations that is to say parallel or perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the mixer, is chosen according to the density and the viscosity of the dough.
  • the constituent substances in particular the water which constitutes the liquid, are used at a low temperature close to the freezing point of the liquid.
  • the system is cooled during mechanical mixing.
  • the present invention also relates to a device for implementing the method, this device comprising a base, a bowl having a shape of revolution carried by this base, a cover which closes this bowl tightly, a delivery line vacuum opening under the underside of the cover and connected at its other end to a vacuum source and mixing blades carried by an axis passing through the cover, the axis being connected by a connecting member with a rotary drive motor and the device being characterized in that the bowl is suspended under the lid and secured in a removable manner with the latter with means for imparting vibrations to the assembly of the lid and of the bowl via the lid.
  • the wall of the bowl includes a circuit for the circulation of a refrigerant.
  • the device comprises a frame designated by the overall reference 1 with a base 2, a foot forming column 3 and an upper console 4.
  • the electric motor 5 of en training seems and the vacuum pump 6 driven from the engine by a transmission belt 7, the engine and the pump being mounted on a plate 8.
  • the vacuum pump 6 discharges into a filtering and damping chamber 9 and sucks by a pipe 10.
  • a vertical vibration generator 11a and a horizontal vibration generator 11b are also mounted on the frame.
  • the vibrating base 13 which is constituted by a box connected by a rod 14 to the vibrating member of the generator 11.
  • the motor shaft 5 drives by a reduction gear 15 a vertical shaft 16 which is secured by a deformable elastic coupling 17 with an axis connection block of any known type 18, this connection block being integral with the vibrating base 13.
  • the vibrating base 13 has at its bottom three cylindrical cups spaced 120 ° apart, one of these cups 19 being connected to the pipe 10 of the vacuum pump and the other two 20 being blind.
  • the cover 21 of the spatula bowl carries three studs 22 intended to engage in a sealed manner by means of a peripheral seal 23 in the three bowls, these studs having a central channel 24 which opens into the underside of the cover 21.
  • the cover 21 comprises a sleeve 25 in which is rotatably mounted a pin 26 carrying at its lower part perforated blades 27.
  • the bowl 28 fits tightly by a seal 29 under the cover 21.
  • a mixture consisting of 25 g of alginates and 20 g of water was placed in the bowl at a temperature of 9 ° C.
  • the vacuum in the bowl was 110 KPa, the blade rotation speed was 250 rpm and the vibrations had a frequency of 5.500 Hz with an amplitude of 1.75 mm.
  • the alginate mixture was perfectly homogeneous and without any perceptible gas bubble.
