Abstract

The printed products unwound from a storage coil or wound package in imbricated product formation are conveyed over two belt conveyors against a stop. According to one embodiment the printed products are separated from the imbricated product formation before reaching the end of the first conveyor device formed by the two belt conveyors by an acceleration imposed by the second of the two belt conveyors, i.e. they are singled. According to another embodiment the imbrication of the printed products is inverted before the products reach the end of the first conveyor device. The individual printed products fall downward after impinging the stop and are deposited upon the preceding printed product in an imbricated formation. The imbricated product formation is conveyed away by a belt conveyor of a second conveyor device in a conveying direction opposite to the conveying direction of the first conveyor device. A new imbricated product formation is therefore formed upon the last-mentioned belt conveyor within which the printed products assume the same mutual orientation as they had before being wound up upon the storage coil.

Description

The present invention relates to a method and a device for processing printed products unwound in a scale formation from a storage roll, according to the preamble of claim 1 and claim 4.

From DE-A 3 123 888 and the corresponding GB-A 2 081 230 it is known that e.g. from a rotary printing machine and ejected in a scale formation printed products before further processing for intermediate storage. However, in the imbricated formation that has been unwound from this storage roll, the printed products assume a different mutual position than in the originally occurring imbricated formation, i.e. that after unwinding, the leading edge of the printed products in the original scale formation becomes the trailing edge. For this reason, the further processing of the scale formation unwound from the storage roll is not without problems, since in many cases it is necessary for the further processing that the printed products assume their original mutual position within the scale formation.

From DE-A 3 151 860 or the corresponding GB-A 2 092 557 a device is now known in which the printed products unwound from a first roll in a scale formation are wound up into a second roll. In the scale formation unwound from this second roll, the printed products now assume a mutual position which corresponds to the position of the printed products in the original scale formation. With this known device, the requirement can therefore be met that after the temporary storage of the printed products in a roll, the printed products assume the original mutual position within the scale formation. However, this requires considerable design effort. In addition, the processing time is increased, which is undesirable in certain cases.

From US Pat. No. 4,214,743 it is further known to convey printed products in a scale formation in which each printed product rests on the leading printed product in the manner of a roof tile along a first conveying path. At the end of this first conveying path, the printed products are dropped down onto a second conveying path, the conveying direction of which is opposite to that of the first conveying path. A scale formation is again formed on the conveyor defining this second conveying path, in which, however, the edge of the printed products leading and lying in the first conveying path now forms the trailing and lying edge. With this known device it is not possible to process a scale formation in which the leading area of each printed product is covered by the leading printed product. The leading print product would not be released at the end of the first conveyor line and the subsequent print product could therefore not be placed on this product on the opposite conveyor line.

From FR-A 2 393 753 a method and a device for forming a scale formation from successively fed printed products is known. The printed products fed at a high conveying speed and arranged at a distance one behind the other are pushed onto the preceding printed product and braked, so that the printed products conveyed away at a lower speed are arranged in a scale formation in which each printed product rests on the preceding printed product.

The present invention is based on the object of providing a method and a device of the type mentioned at the outset which, with as little effort as possible, allow the printed products to be temporarily stored on a roll in the position of a processing station which is required for perfect further processing to forward.

This object is achieved by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1 and claim 4.

By separating the printed products before the end of the first conveyor line and the subsequent roof-tile stacking of the printed products released at the end of this first conveyor line on a second conveyor line arranged below this first conveyor line with the opposite conveying direction, a scale formation is again formed on the latter, in which the printed products are the same mutual Take up position as before winding up. This change in the position of the printed products within their formation can thus be carried out with relatively simple means. At the end of the first conveyor line, the printed products are at least exposed with their leading edge and also with their top and bottom sides, which makes it easy to check, e.g. a count that enables printed products.

As a result of the pressing pressure prevailing in the storage roll, the printed products may stick together in certain cases. By detaching the printed products from each other at the end of the first conveyor section, any connected printed products are separated again. In the scale formation led away by the second conveyor line, each printed product forms a bandage with the other printed products, but the individual printed products are no longer connected to the neighboring printed products, which is a prerequisite for correct, individual handling of the individual printed products.

This detachment of possibly adhering printed products is expediently achieved by accelerating the individual printed products.

Bevorzugte Weiterausbildungen der vorliegenden Erfindung bilden Gegenstand der abhängigen Ansprüche.Preferred further developments of the present invention form the subject of the dependent claims.

  • Fig. 2 eine Vorrichtung zur Bildung eines Speicherwickels in Seitenansicht.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing. It shows purely schematically:
  • Fig. 1 in side view of an inventive device for unwinding and leading away in a scale formation in a storage wrap temporarily stored print products, and
  • Fig. 2 shows a device for forming a storage roll in side view.

The latter corresponds in its structure and also the mode of operation to the winding and storage unit described in DE-A 32 36 866. or the corresponding GB-A 2 107 681. This storage unit 2 has a mobile frame 3 in the form of a bearing block 1, in which the shaft 4 of a cylindrical winding core 5 is rotatably mounted. In a manner known per se, printed products lying on top of one another are wound onto this winding core 5 to form a storage winding 6. In the frame 3, a supply roll 7 for a winding tape W is further rotatably mounted, which is connected to the winding core 5 and is arranged between the individual winding layers formed by the printed products.

An diesen Bandförderer 13 schliesst ein weiterer Bandförderer 14 an.Below the winding core 5, a first conveyor 8 is arranged for leading away the developed scale formation S 1 in the direction of arrow B. This first conveyor device 8 has a first belt conveyor 9 designed as a rocker, which is arranged pivotably about the axis denoted by 9a and is pressed onto the winding 6 by means not shown. Connected to this belt conveyor 9 is a second belt conveyor 10, which has a higher conveying speed than the belt conveyor 9. At a distance from the end 8a of the first conveyor device 8, a stop 11 is arranged in the conveyor path of the latter. Below this stop 11 and thus also the first conveying device 8 there is a second conveying device 12, the conveying direction C of which is opposite to the conveying direction B of the first conveying device 8. This second conveyor device 12 has a first conveyor 13 which is inclined with respect to a horizontal and extends rearward beyond the end 8a of the first conveyor device 8. Another belt conveyor 14 is connected to this belt conveyor 13.

For the sake of completeness, FIG. 2 shows a winding station 15 with a storage unit 2 in which a scale formation S is wound onto the winding core 5 of the storage unit 2 together with a winding tape W in a manner known per se. The scale formation S to be wound up is fed by a belt conveyor 16 which is only partially shown, to which a further belt conveyor 17 designed as a rocker connects. The latter is pivotally mounted about its axis designated 17a and is brought into contact with the storage reel 6 by means not shown. The direction of conveyance of the two belt conveyors 16 and 17 is denoted by E.

The winding and unwinding of the scale formation S or S i on or from the winding core 5 is carried out in the manner described in the aforementioned DE-A 32 36 866 or GB-A 2 107 681. As can be seen from FIG. 2, in the scale formation S to be wound up, each printed product 18 lies on the preceding printed product. This means that the leading edge 19 of each printed product 18, which is usually the folded edge, lies on the top of the scale formation S and faces the winding core 5 or the outermost winding layer of the storage roll 6. The trailing edge 20 of each printed product 18 is covered by the subsequent printed product 18. As FIG. 2 also shows, the printed products 18 only overlap in their edge area.

In order to unwind the scale formation S i , the supply reel 7 is driven and the winding core 5 rotating in the direction of the arrow A is slightly braked, as explained in the aforementioned published documents. As can be seen from FIG. 1, the printed products 18 now have a different position within the scale formation S 1 detached from the roll 6 and placed on the belt conveyor 9, before the winding. In the developed scale formation S 1 , each printed product 18 lies on the subsequent printed product, so that the leading edge 20, which formed the trailing edge in the original scale formation S, lies on the underside of the scale formation. As soon as the printed products 18 reach the area of the belt conveyor 10 at a higher conveying speed, the printed products 18 are accelerated and separated by this belt conveyor 10, as is shown in FIG. 1 by the printed product designated 18 '. This acceleration of the individual printed products 18 removes them from the subsequent printed product 18 ″ and thus releases them. The printed products thus detached from the scale formation and separated are now moved against the stop 11 arranged in the conveying path of the printed products 18 conveyed by the first conveying device 8 , which is located at a distance from the end 8a of the first conveying device, which corresponds at least to the dimension of the printed products 18 in the conveying direction B. After the printed products 18 have hit the stop 11, the printed products 18 fall down and come on the preceding printed product 18 "' for support, which was previously placed on the belt conveyor 13 or on the printed products 18 already located thereon. By means of the belt conveyors 13 and 14, the printed products 18 resting thereon are conveyed away in the opposite direction C. This leading away in the opposite direction C now has the consequence that the printed products 18 leaving the belt conveyor 10 and falling downwards are again placed on top of one another on the belt conveyor 13 lying below, as a result of which a new scale formation S 2 is formed, softer again, as in FIG originally occurring scale formation S (Fig. 2), each printed product 18 rests on the previous printed product. In the newly formed Schup penformation S 2 thus the leading edge 19 of the printed products 18 is again on the upper side of the scale formation S 2 and is formed by the same edge as in the original scale formation S. The printed products 18 thus assume the same mutual position in the newly formed scale formation S 2 as before winding in the original scale formation S, which also means that in both scale formations S and S 2 the same side 18a of the printed products 18 is at the top.

The newly formed scale formation S 2 can now be fed to a processing station in which the printed products 18 can thus be processed in the same way as printed products which are fed directly to the processing station in a roll without first being stored temporarily.

In the embodiments shown, a scale formation S 2 is obtained with relatively simple means and without rewinding the scale formation S i unwound from the storage roll 6, which corresponds to the original scale formation S and can be fed directly to processing stations.

Although the invention has been explained above on the basis of scale formations, in which the printed products 18 are located only in their edge region, i.e. only slightly, overlap, it is also possible to process scale formations in the manner described in which the printed products overlap to a greater extent than only in the edge area.
