Abstract

A centrifuge bowl for oscillating bowl type rotors with two grooves in opposite sides of the bowl to receive the rotor-bearing pins, so that each groove has a bottom surface and is bound on the side facing the bowl aperture by a curved surface is provided. This achieves higher load change cycles so that higher fields of gravity are possible without the occurrence of the usual material fatigue in the area of the grooves receiving the bearing-pins, that is, of fissuration, because the bottom surface has a cup-shaped indentation which, in the peak area of the curved surface is located ajacent to the latter, and there is at least one slot opening into the indentation in the peak area of the curved surface.

Description

The present invention relates to a centrifuge cup for rotors of the swivel cup type with two cutouts formed on opposite outer sides in the upper cup wall for receiving the rotor carrying bolts, each cutout having a bottom surface and being delimited by an arcuate surface on its side facing the cup opening.

Such centrifuge cups are known, for example, from DE-AS 2 637 900 and US Pat. No. 4,531,652. These beakers are used, for example, to hold sample beakers or test tubes, for which purpose, if necessary, separate insert inserts for such tubes can be inserted into the centrifuge beaker. Since such centrifuge beakers are subjected to high forces during centrifugation, they are preferably made from an injection molding, for example an aluminum injection molding.

In US-PS 4 148 433 a swivel cup for centrifuges is described, which is pivotally held on supporting bolts. To reduce the friction, either an O-ring is placed on the bearing journal or a sliding part is inserted into the bearing recess of the cup.

In addition, such centrifuge cups made of a plastic material are known from DE-PS 29 38 317, in which, at least in the area of the suspension, metal parts are used for reinforcement.

The centrifuge beakers mentioned above are used in rotors, as are described, inter alia, in US Pat. No. 4,147,294 or DE-GM 77 22 184.

As a result of the constant load changes to which such centrifuge cups are subject and the high peak loads during centrifugation, cracks can often be observed in the area of the recesses in which the rotor carrying bolts engage after higher cycles, such centrifuge cups must be replaced for safety reasons. In order to achieve longer lifetimes, i.e. higher number of cycles, with such centrifuge cups, the cup volumes and thus the weight of the centrifuge cups have already been reduced while accepting a lower usable cup volume. The present invention is based on the object of specifying a centrifuge cup in which, in comparison to conventional centrifuge cups, higher load change cycles can be achieved and higher gravity fields can be driven without the known material fatigue in the area of the recesses receiving the supporting bolts, in particular in the form of cracks. occur.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that the bottom surface of the recess has a dome-like depression which is arranged in the region of the ridge of the arcuate surface adjacent to it and in that at least one groove is formed in the ridge region of the arcuate surface. The centrifuge cups designed according to the invention have proven themselves to be excellent in test runs. Compared to conventional centrifuge cups, they are characterized by higher achievable load change cycles without recognizable material fatigue. The cup weight is not increased by the measure according to the invention and nevertheless a higher stability is achieved.

A centrifuge beaker which has at least one further groove on both sides of the at least one groove on the comb area of the arc-shaped surface has proven successful. These additional grooves result in an even distribution of the load in the recess receiving the support bolt.

In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the centrifuge cup, the arcuate surface of the recess is designed such that it widens in a funnel shape towards the bottom surface. As a result of this measure, the centrifuge cup lies only with the front edge of the curved surface in the idle state. In operation, with increasing load, a slight bending of the cup can be determined, so that there is a linear support of the curved surface in the axial direction of the carrying bolt. It has proven advantageous here for the surface to widen at an angle between 15 '(minutes) to 10 to the pivot axis of the cup. With this linear support, the cup is optimally supported on the rotor support bolts.

In a preferred embodiment of the centrifuge beaker, the end of the at least one groove formed in the curved surface should form part of the spherical recess in the bottom surface of the recess.

The centrifuge cup shown in the figures is a double blood cup bag, the cup volume of which, as can be seen in particular from FIGS. 1 and 2, is divided into two cup areas 2 by a partition 1. In the upper area of the cup wall 3, offset by approximately one third of the cup height from the upper cup edge 4 to the center of the cup, there are recesses 5 on opposite outer sides Recording of not shown rotor support bolts. These recesses 5 have a flat bottom surface 6 and they are delimited at the top, ie towards the cup edge 4 or the cup opening 7, by an arcuate surface 8. At the bottom, ie towards the bottom 9 of the centrifuge cup, the recess 5 is open so that the double blood bag cup can be placed on the supporting bolts of the centrifuge rotor from above. So that the cup can pivot freely on the support bolts of the rotor, the two opposite outer sides, in which the recesses 5 are formed, are flattened parallel to one another.

In conventional centrifuge beakers, fine cracks can be observed in the area of the zenith of the recesses 5 due to the constant load changes after large number of cycles, so that these beakers must then be replaced for safety reasons. In the centrifuge cup according to the invention shown in the drawings, a dome-like depression 11 is now provided in the bottom surface 6 of each recess 5 and is arranged adjacent to the curved surface 8.

Furthermore, a groove 12 is formed in the area of the comb 10 of the arcuate surface 8, namely in the direction of the pivot axis 19 of the rotor support bolts, which merges into the dome-like recess 11, indicated in FIG. 4 by the reference number 13. These measures, i.e. the groove 12 and the dome-like depression 11 have an advantageous effect on the stress conditions of the cup in the region of the pin suspension, so that centrifuge cups designed in this way can be subjected to higher loads without the cracks previously observed occurring.

In a further optimization of the centrifuge beaker, at least one further groove 14 is milled into the arcuate surface 8 on both sides of the at least one groove 12, as shown in FIG. 4, as is illustrated with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6. While the groove 12 runs out into the dome-like recess 11, the two further grooves 14 in this exemplary embodiment end in the corner region of the recess 5, which is formed by the bottom surface 6 and the curved surface 8. Instead of these three grooves, an embodiment is also possible in which two grooves are formed in the arc-shaped surface 8, these two arc-shaped grooves then, according to the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4, to merge into the dome-like depression 11.

A design of the recess 5 in which the arcuate surface 8 extends in a funnel shape towards the bottom surface 6 has a particularly advantageous effect on the tension conditions of the centrifuge cup. This undercut of the arcuate surface 8 has the effect that, at the beginning of the centrifuging process, the cup only rests with the outer edge 15 on the carrying bolt, indicated by the dash-dotted line 16 in FIG. 4. With increasing speed and thus increasing load, the cup is deformed until a linear support is formed along the top of the pin. Depending on the load (loading, speed, etc.) and the associated deformation of the cup, the angle of the undercut, designated by reference number 17, should be between 15 '(minutes) to 10.

In preferred embodiments, the axis 18 of the dome-like depression (see FIG. 6) runs in the direction of the pivot axis 19 (see FIG. 3) of the centrifuge cup. In addition, the groove end of at least one groove 12 forms part of the dome-shaped recess 11, i.e. in cross section, the groove 12 has a radius corresponding to the dome-like depression 11. This measure has the particular advantage that the groove 12 and the dome-like recess 11 can be milled in one operation.
