Abstract

A safety device for garage doors wherein the door can be pulled down against the opposition of one or more torsion springs acting upon a horizontal shaft has a housing for a gear which is non-rotatably mounted on the shaft and whose peripheral teeth and tooth spaces are adjacent a set of recesses the the housing. A plastic casing which is biased by the torsion springs normally maintains in deformed condition at least one coil spring which reacts against the housing and tends to rotate the casing relative to the gear so that several ramps which are adjacent to discrete pockets of the casing expel from the recesses spherical blocking elements which normally extend partly into the recesses and partly into the adjacent pockets. This results in partial entry of blocking elements into the adjacent tooth spaces to thus hold the shaft against rotation relative to the housing in the event of breakage of the torsion springs.

Description

The invention relates to a centrifugal force-independent fall protection according to the preamble of claim 1.

A fall protection device of this type is described in DE-PS-3 300 331, in which the function is not dependent on centrifugal force, but depends on a torsion spring which acts on the fall protection device and is usually used to balance the weight of the door and which is blocked by two mutually movable ones in the Blocking position receiving spaces for locking body-forming devices is created, which are moved against each other in the non-blocking position so that the receiving spaces are unable to accommodate locking bodies.

In this known device, which has proven itself in practice, was found to be disadvantageous in that the locking body are carried by the ratchet wheel during operation of the gate, which inevitably results in running noise in the fall protection.

In the known device, the counter-housing continues to act actively on the locking body in the locked position, so that after the anti-fall device responds and unintentional manipulation of the counter-housing, the anti-fall device could be released.

The invention has for its object to improve the known fall protection so that the mating housing has only one function in the application, but no longer influences the blocking after the fall protection has responded and that the undesirable running noises of the device are further avoided.

This object is achieved by the features specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.

Vorteilhafte Ausgestaltungen sind in den Unteransprüchen angegeben.Advantageous refinements are specified in the subclaims.

In other words: In the device according to the invention, for. B. only in the vertical lower area of the fall protection provided a number of locking bodies that do not circulate with the ratchet wheel, but are housed in the stationary housing.

The locking body can also be distributed over the entire inner circumference, but then z. B. held by a magnetic tape in the recesses.

In response to the fall protection, the counter housing rotates, lifts the locking body out of its recesses in the stationary housing, so that they then come into contact with the receiving spaces for the locking body in the ratchet wheel, can enter it and then by installation in these accommodation spaces and by installation block at appropriate stops in the stationary housing.

From this it can be seen that, on the one hand, the locking bodies, preferably locking balls, no longer have to be taken along by the ratchet wheel during operation of the device and, on the other hand, that the counter housing only performs a lifting function for the locking bodies. If the locking body comes into contact with the receiving space in the ratchet wheel and at the stops in the stationary housing, the counter housing no longer has any effect on the.. :: locking body, so that the locking effect of the fall protection cannot be released when the counter housing is actuated.

An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawings. From the drawings show:
  • Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a fall protection, in
  • 2 shows a section along the line 2-2 in Fig. 1,
  • Fig. 3 is a view in the operating position - freewheeling position - the fall protection, in
  • Fig. 4 is a view of FIG. 3 in the locked position of the fall protection and in
  • Fig. 5 shows a part of a ratchet wheel to illustrate another shape for the receiving spaces for locking body.

In Fig. 1, 1 denotes a fall protection device which is provided within a stationary housing 2. At 3, a torsion spring is shown, which creates a counterforce for the gate to be secured. At 4, the receiving space for the counterweight shaft is provided, a ratchet wheel 5 being connected to the counterweight shaft in a rotationally fixed manner. The ratchet wheel 5 is surrounded by a counter housing 6 which is rotatably arranged within the housing 2.

The counter housing 6 has support blocks 7, on which the torsion spring 3 engages. In addition, the counter housing 6 is subject to the action of two return springs 8 and 9, which are supported on the one hand on the counter housing 6 in a corresponding cutout 20 and on the other hand on a stop 21 provided on the stationary housing 2.

The structure of the fall protection can be seen more clearly in particular from FIGS. 3 and 4. In these drawings, the ratchet wheel 5 can be seen, which has receiving spaces 10 for locking body 11, the receiving spaces 10 distributed over the circumference of the ratchet wheel 5 open radially outwards and their size and shape are adapted to the size and shape of the locking body 11. The locking body 11 are preferably made of balls.

In Fig. 5 it can be seen that the receiving spaces 10a of a locking wheel 5a can also be made larger than the locking body, so that easier "catching" the locking body 11 in Response is possible.

The stationary housing 2 surrounds the ratchet wheel 5 at a distance which is smaller than the diameter of each ratchet body 11. In the illustrated embodiment, four recesses 12 are machined in the vertically lower region of the stationary housing 2, which are adapted to the shape and size of the ratchet body 11 are, wherein when the locking body are in these recesses, as shown in Fig. 3, the ratchet wheel 5 can freely overrun the locking body.

As illustrated in FIG. 3, the recesses 12 are followed by stop tracks 14 which open into stops 15 for the locking body. So that the device is effective in both directions of rotation, the stop tracks 14 extend on both sides of the actual recess 12.

Arranged below the recesses 12 is the counter housing 6, which has recesses 16, the lowest point of which corresponds to the deepest point of the recess 12, with lifting paths 17 connecting to the recess 16 in the counter housing 6 on both sides, which when the counter housing 6 is rotated cause the locking body to be lifted out of the recesses 12 and thus lead the locking body into the effective area of the receiving spaces 10 of the locking wheel 5.

The counter housing 6 is in principle freely rotatably mounted within the stationary housing 2, but is subject on the one hand to the restoring force of the restoring springs 8 and 9, on the other hand the force by the spring 3. In addition, its rotational movement is limited by a stop 19 which is in a groove guide 18 leads.

The counter housing 6 is preferably made of a plastic which has the required strength.

In the working state, the fall protection is in the position shown in Fig. 3, i. H. the force to be monitored, applied by the spring 3, has guided the counter housing 6 into the position shown in FIG. 3 by compressing the spring 9.

If the spring 3 now breaks, the force applied by the spring 3 or some other device, by which the gate to be secured could fall, causes the spring 9 to cause the counter-housing 6 to rotate. Here, the lifting paths 17 guide the blocking bodies 5 from the deepest of Recesses 12 in a raised position, in which the locking body 11 must now enter the receiving spaces 10 of the locking wheel 5. Here, the locking body 11 move on the stop tracks 14 and come to rest against the stops 15 of the stationary housing 2 and thereby block the rotational movement of the ratchet wheel 5. This prevents further movement of the gate to be secured, since the ratchet wheel 5 rotatably with the in Drawing, not shown, is connected to the counterweight shaft.

From the drawings and the preceding description it can be seen that the locking bodies 11 remain in their recesses 12 during operation of the gate, that is to say they do not move and can therefore not cause any running noises.

From the illustration in Fig. 4 it can be seen that when the counter-housing 6 is actuated after the fall protection has responded, i. H. then when the locking body 11 has entered the stops 15 and in the receiving spaces 10 of the locking wheel 5, an actuation of the counter housing has no influence on the locking effect.
