Definitions
- the invention relates to a multilayer film, in particular a hot stamping film, consisting of a carrier film, a decorative layer comprising at least one lacquer layer and having a spatial pattern, preferably a diffraction-optical structure, and optionally an adhesive layer arranged on the side of the decorative layer facing away from the carrier film.
- a multilayer film in particular a hot stamping film, consisting of a carrier film, a decorative layer comprising at least one lacquer layer and having a spatial pattern, preferably a diffraction-optical structure, and optionally an adhesive layer arranged on the side of the decorative layer facing away from the carrier film.
- a process for the production of such foils a first lacquer layer being applied to the carrier foil, this then being provided with the spatial pattern and then a second lacquer layer being applied.
- a foil in particular a hot stamping foil, which is equipped with a spatial pattern.
- a spatial pattern can be a diffraction-optically effective structure, preferably a hologram, by means of which very specific optical effects, be it when irradiated with natural or be irradiated with artificial light of a certain wavelength, can be generated.
- it is necessary to take the spatial pattern exactly and to transfer it to the counterfeit foil. This is only possible if the lacquer layer that generally covers the spatial pattern is removed.
- an identification card formed from a laminate which has two layers with different optical transmission or different colors.
- the adjacent surfaces of these two layers are provided with complementary, mutually matching impressions or elevations.
- the two layers are then pressed together under pressure and heat, which causes the layers to be welded in the area of the interface, thus creating a uniform map.
- the impressions or elevations corresponding to the thickness of the layers are comparatively high, namely so high that when the two layers are joined, the elevations or depressions snap into one another.
- the layers are individually provided with the elevations or depressions and then placed one on top of the other such that the elevations or depressions snap into one another.
- holograms were generally introduced into embossing foils in such a way that a metallized layer was present, into which the hologram or the other structure having an optical diffraction effect was then embossed.
- the metal layer provided with the structure was then covered with a protective lacquer layer, although lacquers were chosen which, on the one hand, adhered very well to the metal layer, and on the other hand were hardly or only very difficult to dissolve with conventional solvents. Nevertheless, counterfeiters have repeatedly succeeded in exposing the surface of the spatial pattern.
- the invention is based on the object of further improving the security against forgery of such multilayer foils, in particular hot stamping foils with a structure having an optical diffraction effect, in that exposure of the spatial pattern is practically excluded.
- a method for the simple production of corresponding films is to be proposed.
- the decorative layer comprises at least two alsratfo having j restrictive, of transparent coatings significantly different optical properties lacquer layers formed, the interface forms the spatial pattern and the means of chemical or physical Methods cannot be separated.
- the spatial patterning is therefore no longer applied to a metal layer which is very different in structure and behavior from the conventional lacquer layers, but is instead according to the invention between two lacquer layers, these lacquer layers in order to make the spatial pattern visible.
- the lacquer layers should be selected so that they cannot be separated from one another by chemical or physical methods. In order to prevent chemical separation, it must therefore be a lacquer which basically has the same composition. The separation using physical methods can be prevented by choosing lacquers for the two lacquer layers which create a chemical bond between them, for example lacquers which have not yet crosslinked or only gradually reacting organic groups. With a foil acc.
- the invention it is practically impossible that when trying to fake or remove the spatial pattern for the purpose of falsification, the interface between the two layers of lacquer, which have the spatial pattern, is properly exposed. A direct removal of the spatial pattern from the original film is therefore excluded, which means that films are safe to be washed. the invention compared to the previously common films is increased significantly.
- the decorative layer comprises a non-translucent, preferably metal layer, which on the surface of the carrier film facing away from the the spatial patterning lacquer layers is arranged.
- the non-translucent or metal layer due to the reflection or absorption of the incident light occurring at it, enhances the contrasts in the area of the boundary layer exhibiting the spatial pattern compared to a film in which only the two lacquer layers forming the interface have different optical properties.
- the invention provides that when the film is produced, before the complete drying or curing of the first layer of paint, it is provided with the spatial pattern and the second layer of paint is applied. According to the invention, the second lacquer layer is thus applied before the first lacquer layer has completely dried or cured. This procedure strongly encourages the formation of bonds between the two layers of lacquer, so that particularly good adhesion is achieved in the area of the interface with the spatial pattern.
- the film according to FIG. 1 comprises, in a manner known per se, a carrier film 1, for example a polyester film with a thickness of approximately 19 ⁇ m.
- a release layer 2 for example a wax-like layer or a special lacquer layer, is provided on the carrier film 1.
- the release layer 2 is adjoined by a decorative layer, denoted overall by 3, which consists of a first lacquer layer 4, a second lacquer layer 5, each in a thickness of approximately 1-5 ⁇ m, and a metal layer 6, for example vapor-deposited.
- the decorative layer 3 can be detached from the carrier film 1, for example under the action of heat and pressure, and is in use by means of an adhesive layer 7, e.g. Can be 0.2 to 0.7 ⁇ m thick, attached to the object to be decorated or protected, for example a credit card made of plastic.
- the adhesive layer 7 can be formed by a hot glue or by a special lacquer which becomes sticky when heated.
- the interface 8 between the two layers of paint 4 and 5 is provided with a spatial pattern.
- the spatial patterning of the interface 8 is e.g. around a structure with optical diffraction, preferably a so-called "hoiogram".
- the lacquers 4 and 5 of the decorative layer 3 are transparent on the one hand so that the spatial pattern or structure of the interface 8 is visible. On the other hand, they have clearly different optical properties, preferably very different refractive indices.
- the spatial pattern for the formation of the interface 8 is introduced in a manner known per se from the manufacture of stamping foils either in a lifting process or in a rolling process.
- Two different options are provided for producing the film, namely either a so-called dry texturing or a wet texturing.
- a lacquer is applied to the carrier film 1 and at least largely dried.
- the spatial pattern is then introduced into this first lacquer in a lifting or rolling process.
- the second layer of lacquer is then applied.
- a varnish of the following composition can be used as the first varnish, which is applied over the entire area with a basis weight of 2.5 to 3.0 g / m 2 to the carrier film:
- the lifting method is used, for example, to work with a surface pressure of 1 ton / cm 2 , a temperature of 110 ° C. and a pressure duration of 0.4 sec. If a roll-off process is used for the introduction of the spatial pattern, line pressure of 150 kp / cm, a temperature of approximately 110 ° C and a running speed of the roll or film with the lacquer of 15 m / min. be worked.
- the second lacquer layer is also applied over the entire area with a basis weight of 1.0 to 1.5 g / m 2 , it being possible, for example, to use the following lacquer:
- the layers of the lacquers A and B are connected by crosslinking between the incompletely hardened constituents of the two lacquer layers subsequent to the application of the second lacquer layer, as a result of which a practically non-releasable connection is produced in the area of the interface 8.
- the application of the first lacquer layer is shown schematically in FIG. 2.
- the first lacquer layer 4 'and optionally the release layer 2 are applied to the carrier film 1' in a manner known per se, for example in a gravure printing process.
- the carrier film 1 'with the first lacquer layer 4' then runs over the surface of a spatially patterned 9, chilled and co-rotating roller 10, that the first lacquer layer 4 'points to the spatial pattern 9 and thus when running over the roller 10 accordingly Formation of the boundary layer 8 'is textured.
- the carrier film 1 'with the lacquer layer 4' is pressed against the textured roller 10 by means of a rubber roller 11.
- the carrier film 1 'with the lacquer layer 4' forming the interface 8 'then runs to the textured roller 10 via a detaching roller 13, as a result of which the carrier film 1' with the lacquer layer 4 'is detached from the textured roller 10.
- Figure 2 with the first lacquer layer 4 'film is then carried out in such a way that a further layer of a curable lacquer is applied to the lacquer layer 4' by gravure printing, the final hardening of the two lacquer layers 4 ', 5 then depending on their composition either by renewed UV radiation or heat.
- varnishes B and D which are each curable by means of UV radiation
- varnish E a crosslinking polyurethane varnish:
- lacquer E thermal curing must take place, for example in a drying cabinet at a temperature of about 70 to 80 ° C. for 12 hours.
- the metal layer 6 can then optionally also be applied, for example by vacuum evaporation, but also by sputtering. It would also be conceivable to provide colored layers of paint, etc.
- the film is then finished by applying the adhesive layer 7.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a multilayer film, in particular a hot stamping film, consisting of a carrier film, a decorative layer comprising at least one lacquer layer and having a spatial pattern, preferably a diffraction-optical structure, and optionally an adhesive layer arranged on the side of the decorative layer facing away from the carrier film. In addition, it is concerned with a process for the production of such foils, a first lacquer layer being applied to the carrier foil, this then being provided with the spatial pattern and then a second lacquer layer being applied.
It is known to improve the security against forgery of documents, for example check cards, credit cards, savings bank books or similar security carriers, to provide them with a foil, in particular a hot stamping foil, which is equipped with a spatial pattern. For example, such a spatial pattern can be a diffraction-optically effective structure, preferably a hologram, by means of which very specific optical effects, be it when irradiated with natural or be irradiated with artificial light of a certain wavelength, can be generated. In order to counterfeit such security foils, it is necessary to take the spatial pattern exactly and to transfer it to the counterfeit foil. This is only possible if the lacquer layer that generally covers the spatial pattern is removed.
From US Pat. No. 4,469,725, an identification card formed from a laminate is known, which has two layers with different optical transmission or different colors. The adjacent surfaces of these two layers are provided with complementary, mutually matching impressions or elevations. During production, the two layers are then pressed together under pressure and heat, which causes the layers to be welded in the area of the interface, thus creating a uniform map. In this known card, the impressions or elevations corresponding to the thickness of the layers are comparatively high, namely so high that when the two layers are joined, the elevations or depressions snap into one another. For the production, the layers are individually provided with the elevations or depressions and then placed one on top of the other such that the elevations or depressions snap into one another. Such a procedure is understandably not possible when producing stamping foils because of their small thickness compared to the layers of the known card. In addition, the structures that have an optical diffraction effect are so fine that it would never be possible to lock two separate layers that were produced with matching profiled surfaces.
In the past, holograms were generally introduced into embossing foils in such a way that a metallized layer was present, into which the hologram or the other structure having an optical diffraction effect was then embossed. The metal layer provided with the structure was then covered with a protective lacquer layer, although lacquers were chosen which, on the one hand, adhered very well to the metal layer, and on the other hand were hardly or only very difficult to dissolve with conventional solvents. Nevertheless, counterfeiters have repeatedly succeeded in exposing the surface of the spatial pattern.
The invention is based on the object of further improving the security against forgery of such multilayer foils, in particular hot stamping foils with a structure having an optical diffraction effect, in that exposure of the spatial pattern is practically excluded. At the same time, a method for the simple production of corresponding films is to be proposed.
To achieve this object, according to the invention in the above-mentioned film now proposed to proceed so that the decorative layer comprises at least two aufeinanderfo having j restrictive, of transparent coatings significantly different optical properties lacquer layers formed, the interface forms the spatial pattern and the means of chemical or physical Methods cannot be separated.
In the film according to the invention, the spatial patterning is therefore no longer applied to a metal layer which is very different in structure and behavior from the conventional lacquer layers, but is instead according to the invention between two lacquer layers, these lacquer layers in order to make the spatial pattern visible. have clearly different optical properties, preferably have very different refractive indices. In addition, the lacquer layers should be selected so that they cannot be separated from one another by chemical or physical methods. With a foil acc. the invention it is practically impossible that when trying to fake or remove the spatial pattern for the purpose of falsification, the interface between the two layers of lacquer, which have the spatial pattern, is properly exposed. A direct removal of the spatial pattern from the original film is therefore excluded, which means that films are safe to be washed. the invention compared to the previously common films is increased significantly.
In order to make the spatial pattern or the diffraction-optically effective structure visible to the naked eye, it can be advantageous if, in the film according to the invention, the decorative layer comprises a non-translucent, preferably metal layer, which on the surface of the carrier film facing away from the the spatial patterning lacquer layers is arranged. The non-translucent or metal layer, due to the reflection or absorption of the incident light occurring at it, enhances the contrasts in the area of the boundary layer exhibiting the spatial pattern compared to a film in which only the two lacquer layers forming the interface have different optical properties.
All possible paints can be used for the two paint layers. However, as has been established, there is a particularly reliable adhesion in the area of the interface if the lacquer layers forming the spatial pattern are formed by acrylate lacquers which can be crosslinked by UV radiation, by polyurethane lacquers which crosslink by heat, or a mixture of these lacquers. This is mainly because these varnishes can be cured or dried gradually, with a bond between the two varnish layers occurring in the area of the interface during the curing process.
For the production of foils, in particular hot stamping foils, it is generally common to apply a first lacquer layer to the carrier foil, then to provide this with a spatial pattern and then to apply a second lacquer layer. The spatial pattern has so far been located on a metal layer covering the first lacquer layer, so that the two lacquer layers do not follow one another directly. In order to ensure the best possible protection against counterfeiting, i.e. To achieve reliable adhesion of the two layers of paint to one another, the invention provides that when the film is produced, before the complete drying or curing of the first layer of paint, it is provided with the spatial pattern and the second layer of paint is applied. According to the invention, the second lacquer layer is thus applied before the first lacquer layer has completely dried or cured. This procedure strongly encourages the formation of bonds between the two layers of lacquer, so that particularly good adhesion is achieved in the area of the interface with the spatial pattern.

The film according to FIG. 1 comprises, in a manner known per se, a
The decorative layer 3 can be detached from the
As indicated schematically in Figure 1, the

The spatial pattern for the formation of the
Two different options are provided for producing the film, namely either a so-called dry texturing or a wet texturing.
During the dry texturing, a lacquer is applied to the
When the texturing is introduced into the lacquer layer formed from lacquer A, the lifting method is used, for example, to work with a surface pressure of 1 ton / cm 2 , a temperature of 110 ° C. and a pressure duration of 0.4 sec. If a roll-off process is used for the introduction of the spatial pattern, line pressure of 150 kp / cm, a temperature of approximately 110 ° C and a running speed of the roll or film with the lacquer of 15 m / min. be worked.
The layers of the lacquers A and B are connected by crosslinking between the incompletely hardened constituents of the two lacquer layers subsequent to the application of the second lacquer layer, as a result of which a practically non-releasable connection is produced in the area of the
If faster work is desired, wet texturing is used. The application of the first lacquer layer is shown schematically in FIG. 2. The first lacquer layer 4 'and optionally the
The carrier film 1 'with the lacquer layer 4' forming the interface 8 'then runs to the
The completion of the like. Figure 2 with the first lacquer layer 4 'film is then carried out in such a way that a further layer of a curable lacquer is applied to the lacquer layer 4' by gravure printing, the final hardening of the two

- For the second layer of lacquer there is a lacquer D, the application of which is also over the entire surface, for example by gravure printing, with a basis weight of 1.0 to 1.5 g / m 2 .
If the two
