Abstract

An embossing film, in particular a hot stamping film (10), is described which is composed in the form of a laminate of successively a carrier film (12), a separating layer (14), a transparent top coat layer, a decorative layer (18) and a primer (20). The decorative layer (18) consists of a first decorative layer (22) adjacent to the top coat layer (16), an opaque intermediate layer (26) and a second decorative layer (24) adjacent to the primer (20). The primer (20) preferably consists of a crystal-clear material. The opaque intermediate layer (26) can be covered on at least one side with a plain colored layer (28) over a large area.

Description

  • The invention relates to an embossing film, in particular a hot stamping film, in the form of a laminate composed of successively a carrier film, optionally a separating layer, a transparent top coat layer, a decorative layer and a primer.
  • Such an embossing foil, in particular hot stamping foil, is known for example from DE 29 16 723 C2.
  • Since the known embossing foils are only decorated on one side, it is necessary to use two such embossing foils in order to produce objects with a decor on each of their two opposite sides. These two mutually independent embossing foils must be positioned in the correct position in relation to the object to be decorated, which can be particularly complex and complicated when the two embossing foils have different expansion properties, for example. The two stamping foils also require considerable effort with their decors not only in the correct position for the object to be decorated, but also in the correct position in relation to each other during the embossing process. This requires high-precision devices and a not inconsiderable amount of time for the production of such two-sided decorated items.
  • From the brochure of the Leonhard Kurz GmbH & Co. "Embossing on plastics", page 18, a so-called "counter-embossing" is known, whereby a crystal-clear substrate is embossed from the back. For this purpose, special embossing foils are used that have their decorative layer in such a way that the decor points away from the carrier foil. It is also known to then inject objects embossed in the counter-process or to cover them on the back with a colored lacquer, the embossed image remaining visible. A major disadvantage of such a procedure is that the embossing can easily be damaged both in the rear molding and in the coating on the rear. In particular, there is a risk of warping or detachment of the decorative layer of the backing film by the lacquer to be applied on the rear side due to the relatively high temperature. A double-sided decor has not yet been realized in the counter process with an embossing film.
  • The invention has for its object to provide an embossing film of the type mentioned, with which it is very easy and time-saving to realize objects that appear decorated on both sides.
  • According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the decorative layer successively forms a topcoat layer has adjacent first decorative layer, an opaque intermediate layer and a second decorative layer adjacent to the primer, the primer consisting of an at least translucent material. Due to the opaque, ie opaque or opaque intermediate layer, the two decorative layers are optically separated from one another, so that two different image motifs can be realized with the two decorative layers. The first decorative layer is visible through the transparent top coat layer, while the second decorative layer is visible through the primer. With the help of such an embossing foil, it is therefore easily possible to realize an object that appears to be decorated on both sides. Such an object is, for example, a card, for example an identification card, a credit card or the like. With a primer made of an at least translucent material, special optical effects, such as a mother-of-pearl effect or the like, can be achieved.
  • It has proven to be expedient if the primer consists of a crystal-clear material. The second decorative layer is clearly visible through such a primer. This can be particularly advantageous if the second decorative layer is realized, for example, in multi-color printing.
  • The opaque intermediate layer is preferably a lacquer layer containing metal pigments. Such a lacquer layer containing metal pigments can be produced on the laminate forming the stamping film in the same way as the separating layer, the transparent top coat layer and the primer, so that a relatively simple device can be used to produce the stamping film, in which first the first decorative layer, then the opaque intermediate layer on the first decorative layer and then the second decorative layer on the opaque intermediate layer. Through the use of a single device for producing this laminate structure of the layers, it is possible in a particularly simple manner to form the two decorative layers with decors which are assigned to one another with a precise fit.
  • The opaque intermediate layer can be covered at least on one side with a plain colored layer of paint. This is particularly advantageous when the opaque intermediate layer is combined with a multicolor decorative layer. In this case, the plain colored layer serves as a primer for the associated first and / or second decorative layer, the plain colored layer also being able to improve the adhesion of the corresponding decorative layer.
  • The / each plain-colored color layer is preferably white, because the color or optical overall effect of the associated decorative layer is not influenced by such a color layer.
  • As has already been mentioned, at least one of the two decorative layers can be a multi-color printing layer. Four-color printing is usually used here, because the entire color spectrum can be achieved with four colors in a manner known per se.
  • The transparent topcoat layer preferably has the following composition:
    4 - 5% by weight of ester-soluble nitrocellulose,
    25 ± 3% by weight silicone-modified polyester (FK 50%)
    25 ± 3% by weight aromatic isocyanate (prepolymer, FK 50%)
    Balance to 100 wt .-% solvent.
  • The layer thickness of the top coat layer is preferably between 1 and 3 microns. Their weight per unit area is preferably between 1.6 and 2.7 g / m². The softening range of the transparent top coat is at temperatures between approx. 140 ° C and 160 ° C.
  • The opaque intermediate layer preferably has the following composition:
    7 ± 2% by weight aromatic polyurethane resin
    5 ± 1% by weight of ester-soluble nitrocellulose
    10 ± 2% by weight urethane-modified ketone resin (mp ≧ 140 ° C)
    7 ± 2% by weight aromatic isocyanate (FK 50%)
    17 ± 3% by weight metallic pigment
    Balance to 100 wt .-% solvent.
  • The layer thickness of the opaque intermediate layer is preferably between 2 and 5 μm. Their weight per unit area can be between 1.8 and 2.8 g / m². The softening range of the opaque layer is at temperatures of ≧ 140 ° C.
  • The / each plain color layer can have the following composition:
    7 ± 2% by weight aromatic polyurethane resin
    5 ± 1% by weight of ester-soluble nitrocellulose
    10 ± 2% by weight urethane-modified ketone resin (mp ≧ 140 ° C)
    7 ± 2% by weight aromatic isocyanate (FK 50%)
    20 ± 3% by weight of rutile pigment
    Balance to 100 wt .-% solvent.
  • The layer thickness of the / each plain-colored color layer is preferably between 7 and 12 µm, its weight per unit area between 7.5 and 10 g / m² and its softening temperature at ≧ 140 ° C.
  • Further details, features and advantages emerge from the following description of an exemplary embodiment of the embossing film according to the invention, which is schematically indicated in the drawing, with no true-to-scale relation of the thicknesses of the different layers of the embossing film lamint. It shows, in each case on average:

However, if the first and / or second decorative layer 22 or 24 is, for example, a multi-color printing layer, it is advantageous if a plain-colored, in particular white, color layer 28 is provided between the opaque intermediate layer 26 and the corresponding decorative layer. Such a plain-colored color layer 28 can be seen in FIG. 3 between the opaque intermediate layer 26 and the second decorative layer 24. Otherwise, the layer structure corresponds to the layer structure shown in FIG. 2, ie the first decorative layer 22 is provided on the top coat layer 16 and the primer 20 is provided in the vicinity of the second decorative layer 24. The second decorative layer 24 is visible through the primer 20 of the embossing film 10, which preferably consists of a crystal-clear material, and the first decorative layer 22 is visible through the transparent top coat layer 16. This results in an embossing film 10, the two decorative layers 22 and 24 of which are visible after removal of the carrier film 12. If a body made of transparent material is fixed on the primer 20 in a suitable work step, an object appears to be decorated on both sides. Since the two decorative layers 22 and 24 can be or are preferably implemented in a single device, the result is between the two Structures or motifs of the two decorative layers have a precisely fitting connection, so that corresponding, precisely fitting, double-sided objects can be realized easily and in a time-saving manner.
