Description

The present invention relates to a percussion device for an automatic weapon with a tube of the type with internal energy source (for example of the gas borrowing type) or with external energy source.

There are three types of percussion devices according to the state of the art:
  • - spring mechanisms, such as those used in GATLING type weapons, are constituted by a striker sliding in a breech and driven by a compressed spring during the advance phase of the breech towards the front of the weapon, held in position by a stop and then released by retraction of said stop after locking the breech on the barrel of the weapon.

These mechanisms have the major drawback on the one hand of having a striker speed, therefore a percussion energy linked to the stiffness of the spring which can vary during the life of the weapon, and on the other hand, since the striker is not linked to the bolt after percussion and during the damping stroke, this can lead to a violent return of the striker to the rear, return due to the significant pressures developed on the primer during the combustion of the charge propellant:
  • - the inertia mechanisms are constituted by a striker of determined mass, sliding in a cylinder head under the effect of inertial forces. During the impact and the locking of the breech on the barrel of the weapon, the striker is projected towards the ammunition and initiates. This type of device has drawbacks similar to those of the mechanism described above. In fact, the impact energy can vary depending on the friction (surface condition, lubrication, fouling) of the striker on the breech. The striker is not integral with the latter during the locking and percussion phases.

Le brevet US-A-4 494 439 décrit un dispositif adapté à une arme à tambour rotatif, de type Gatling, permettant d'agir sur différents percuteurs sans utilisation de ressorts.US-A-4,494,439 describes a device adapted to a rotary drum weapon, of the Gatling type, making it possible to act on different strikers without the use of springs.

Patent US-A-2,512,014 describes a system suitable for an automatic weapon with inertia locking, making it possible to prohibit percussion if the chamber is not properly closed.

In these two patents, we do not find the particular structure implemented in the invention, that is to say an operating part equipped with a movable head bearing on the barrel of the weapon.

The object of the present invention is to propose a percussion device overcoming the drawbacks of the devices according to the state of the art. To do this, the invention consists in securing the striker to the operating part during the locking phase, then to the movable head during the start phase of the blow.

Thus, the device offers a very high level of security because the percussion is controlled, that is to say carried out at a very precise instant determined during the design of the mechanism.

Another advantage is due to the fact that the impact energy is very high since the complete inertia of the moving parts of the weapon participates in the percussion, the striker being linked to the operating part.

On the other hand, the percussion device according to the invention is completely passive when the bolt is in the rear position because there is no stored energy. This is not always the case for known devices using springs, which can be detrimental for safety in the event that the spring retaining stop would break.

The percussion device for an automatic weapon with a tube comprises: an operating part moving alternately and parallel to the axis of the tube, a movable head intended to come to bear on the tube, carried by the operating part and slide relative to the latter following a first so-called locking stroke ensuring the attachment of the movable head to the tube and at the end of which the percussion takes place, then a second so-called damping stroke, and a striker sliding in the movable head, such a device being part of the state of the art, characterized in that it comprises on the one hand a first connecting means ensuring the joining between the striker and the operating part during the locking stroke and on the other hand a second means connecting ensuring the connection between the striker and the movable head during the course of damping, said connecting means acting consecutively.

According to other particular characteristics:
  • - it includes a striker against secured to the operating part which can slide relative to the striker and cooperating with said connecting means,
  • the stroke of the counter-striker with respect to the striker is substantially equal to the damping stroke,
  • - The first connecting means is constituted by at least one crutch articulated on the striker along an axis orthogonal to that of the tube having a bearing surface with a corresponding internal surface of the movable head, cooperating with a shoulder formed on the counter striker and retracting into a housing disposed on the movable head to break said connection,
  • - The second connection means is constituted by at least one crutch articulated on the striker along an axis orthogonal to that of the barrel tube, having a bearing surface with a corresponding external surface of the counter-striker, cooperating with a notch arranged on the internal surface of the moving head and retracting into a housing disposed on the counter-striker to break said connection,

The invention will be better understood after reading the description which follows of a particular embodiment made with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 represents a longitudinal section of a percussion mechanism according to the invention with the striker retracted,
  • FIG. 2 represents a section along AA of FIG. 1,
  • FIG. 3 represents a section along AA of FIG. 1 after percussion,
  • - Figure 4 shows a detail of the locking device.

This operating part comprises a bore 3 of axis YY 'perpendicular to the axis XX' in which is housed an axis 4 carrying a roller 5 and a shoe 6 circulating along a groove of a rotary drum not shown, thus ensuring the reciprocating movement of the mobile assembly to allow the introduction of the ammunition into the barrel of the weapon. The axis 4 is extended by a cylindrical part 4a passing through the tubular part of the operating part 1. The movable head 7 is constituted by a tubular part 7a sliding in the tubular part of the operating part and by a cylinder head 7b coming to take support on the barrel of the weapon (not shown) to close the propulsion chamber when the ammunition is inserted. This movable head 7 further comprises two diametrically opposite ramps 8A and 8B through which the cylindrical part 4a of the axis 4 passes. This ramp consists of a helical part A - B (see FIG. 2) and a straight part B - C. The helical part A - B is used to ensure the locking of the movable head on the barrel of the weapon. Indeed, during operation, the maneuvering piece advances towards the barrel of the weapon, the movable head abuts on the latter, then the axis 4 following the ramp A - B rotates the head which locks at the level of the rear surface 9 of the teeth 10 on a shape complementary to the barrel of the weapon.

The rectilinear part B - C of the ramp is a damping stroke used, in this particular example, in the event of a long-term fire, that is to say a delay in initiating the propellant charge or no start of the blow . In fact, the rotary drum providing alternative guidance for the mobile assembly is driven by an external energy motor of the electric motor type. With this type of weapon, the information on the start or not start of the shot is not automatically supplied to the logic of the automation, unlike what happens in a conventional weapon with internal energy source of the type gas outlet for example. Consequently, a munition with a long fire can be extracted and ejected from the firing chamber before its normal operation and thereby operate, i.e. burn, in the poorly or not protected parts of the weapon and the system wearer thus putting the shooter's security at stake.

To do this, provision has been made to equip this type of weapon with a so-called "long-fire safety" device such as that described in patent FR-A-2,372,409 (patent application FR-7,635 639). This device includes means sensitive to the information "start of the shot" constituted by sensors determining the longitudinal position of the weapon relative to the cradle on which it is arranged. Thus in the event of a long fire, the weapon is not biased towards the rear, the sensors transmit the blocking order of the mobile assembly so as to prevent the opening of the chamber of the weapon. The locking means consist of locks 11 (shown diagrammatically in FIG. 3) coming to bear at the rear of the operating part 1. These locks are mounted resiliently relative to the frame of the weapon so as to allow recoil damping of the movable assembly 7 until it comes to a complete stop, the energy absorbed by the elastic link then being equal to the kinetic energy of the entire mechanism of the weapon.

This recoil stroke is due to the fact that the roller continues to travel the ramp of the drum. The movable head 7 being always locked on the barrel of the weapon, it was necessary to provide a relative stroke of the two movable head members - operating part (7, 1) (stroke B - C).

It should be noted that this type of percussion device can be used by a conventional weapon with internal energy source, the stroke A - B serving to ensure the locking of the movable head on the barrel of the weapon and the stroke B - C being used to cushion the end of travel of the mobile assembly.

The device according to the invention further comprises a striker 12, sliding along a bore 13 produced in the movable head 7, in which a counter striker 14 can be moved linked to the operating part 1 by the axis 4. The striker and counter-striker are held by a pin 15, the ends of which are linked to the striker and sliding in an oblong groove 16 produced in the counter striker 14.

The connecting device (FIG. 4) of the movable head 7 with the striker 12 and of the striker with the counter-striker 14 comprises two crutches 17 articulated on the striker along axes 18 orthogonal to the axis XX '. The pins have a first cylindrical surface 19 capable of sliding inside the surface 13 of the movable head when said crutches are in the retracted position, and a second surface 20 that can slide on the lateral surface 21 of the counter-striker when the crutches link the striker to the moving part. A flat 22 is formed at the end of the crutches so as to secure the striker-movable head block, by bearing on the surface 23 of a notch 24 produced on the movable head. In the same way, a second flat 25 cooperates with a shoulder 26 of the counter-striker 14 to ensure the connection between striker and striker. It should be noted that all the surfaces 22, 23, 25 and 26 are inclined relative to the axis XX 'so as to facilitate the movement of the crutches.

The device works as follows:
  • the roller 5 traverses the groove of the rotary drum so as to introduce a munition into the chamber of the weapon, the front face of the movable head comes to bear on the rear of the age tube and the locking is effected by at ramps 8A and 8B. During this locking stroke A - B, the striker 12 is linked to the counter-striker 14 by the crutches 17 (see FIG. 2) and advances at the speed of the operating part 1.

At the end of the locking stroke the percussion of the ammunition takes place, the crutches 17 tilt so as to secure the striker 12 to the movable head while the striker is detached from the counter-striker (see FIG. 3), the movable head continues its relative movement (stroke B - C) relative to the operating part 1.

When the device returns to the rear of the weapon, the same events occur in reverse order.

It can thus be seen that the striker is always secured to another part, which offers great safety in use compared to percussion devices according to the state of the art.

On the other hand, the percussion takes place at a position determined very precisely at the design of the weapon and invariable during its entire lifetime, unlike spring devices, the latter tending to lose their characteristic after many uses .
