- a mixer of this type has a casing 1, a rotary shaft 2 extending horizontally through the casing, an outer helical blade 3 in the form of a strip mounted on the rotary shaft for moving the materials to be mixed in one direction, and an inner helical blade 4 in the form of a strip mounted on the rotary shaft for moving the materials in the opposite direction.
- the width t of the outer helical blade 3 is smaller than the width t' of the inner helical blade 4 so that the amounts of materials fed by these two helical blades will be substantially equal to each other, as shown in Fig. 4.
- the outer blade 3 produces a rightward flow of material in Fig. 3 and the inner blade 4 produces a leftward material flow.

- the auxiliary blade feeds the material in the same direction as the inner blade does. It is disposed outside of the outer blade and at a lefthand side of the casing facing the direction in which the outer blade moves the material. Even if the amount of materials is small so that the material will gather at one side in the casing, the amounts of the materials moved in the opposite directions will be balanced in comparison with the conventional mixer. Therefore, the mixer of this invention can be used within a wider range of the capacity.
- a casing 1 a rotary shaft 2 xtendinq horizontally through the casing, an outer helical blade 3 fixedly mounted on the rotary shaft for moving the materials to be mixed in one direction, and an inner helical blade 4 for moving the materials in the opposite direction.

- the blades 3, 4 and 5 have different widths t, t' and t", respectively. Their widths should preferably be determined so that the amount of material fed by the outer blade 3 will be substantially equal to the amount of material fed by the inner blade 4 ard the screw blade 5.
- the materials to be mixed are thrown into the mixer through a lid (not shown) provided at its top and discharged from its bottom.
- the blades 3, 4 and 5 are almost buried in the materials. While the rotary shaft 3 and the screw blade 5 turn in the same direction, the materials to be mixed are moved by these blades 3, 4 and 5 and effectively mixed together.
- the materials gather at one side of the casing as shown in Fig. 2. Because the screw blade 5 is provided over the outer blade at the left side in the casing facing the direction in which the inner blade moves the material, it is buried up by the material, as shown in Fig. 2 with a dotted line.
- the screw blade feeds the material in a direction opposite to the direction in which the outer blade 3 feeds the material. While the material is being fed by the screw blade 5, some of it falls onto the outer blade 3, mixing into the material fed by the outer blade. Therefore, a hiqhlv efficient mixing is possible. Experiments show that efficient mixing is possible even if the amount of materials is as small as about 25% of the capacity of the casing.
- the screw blade may be provided at positions shown with a dotted line in Fig. 2, singly or in addition to the screw blade 5 shown in Fig. 2 with a solid line.
