Description

The invention relates to a protective hood with the closing of the nostril serving closure elements which are arranged on a carrier located within the protective hood and are connected to power transmission devices which can be handled from outside the protective hood by means of an operating element.

A protective hood of the type mentioned above is known from DE-A-2 853 213.

Protective hoods of this type are used in areas of respiratory protection, diving technology, for flying aviation personnel and generally wherever the face or head area is protected from the ingress of non-breathable gases or where breathing is made possible by suitable aids.

In the known protective hood there is a carrier designed as a half mask, on which a lever is pivotably guided on each side through the nose region of the hood, to the end of which a roller is fastened. The levers are connected to the outside via an operating bracket. In the rest position, the actuating bracket lies down against the hood, the rollers standing up in the interior. When the operating bracket is folded up, the rollers on the inner mask roll down on both sides of the nose area and press the nostrils together over the mask.

Such a device for closing the nostrils is useful if the wearer of the protective hood has to overcome large differences in height in short periods of time.

This is the case when, for example, divers have to descend to great depths. It is of great benefit to pilots who fly at great heights and are supplied with oxygen through a mask. In the event of an extreme rate of descent, the pilot must balance the pressure between his surroundings and the inner auditory canal. Some of the pilots can achieve this pressure equalization by swallowing or moving the lower jaw. The other part of the pilots can only bring about such pressure equalization by bringing about a pressure change in the nasopharynx when the nose is closed. Such a handling is called "Valsalva handle". It should expediently be possible for the pilot to carry it out from the outside without changing the protective hood. In the known device, it proves to be disadvantageous that the pilot has to move his arm into the field of view of the protective hood in order to carry out this handling, as a result of which his field of vision is severely restricted, at least for a short period of time, but not to be neglected at the high flight speeds. In addition, the bracket must be left in the raised position until the pressure is equalized. During this time, the stirrup prevents the pilot from having a clear view through the viewing window to his flight instruments.

Another device for exercising the "Valsalva handle" is known from GB-A-2 047 545. There two pressure pieces are shown that are resiliently attached to the mask and are connected by a flexible band running under the nose. When the mask is moved upwards, the band lies against the nose and pulls the pressure pieces together laterally. The required swiveling of the hood and mask is cumbersome, impairs the tightness and disturbs the view at crucial moments. In addition, the parts protruding into the mask space are a hindrance when wearing the mask.

The object of the invention is seen in improving a protective hood of the type mentioned in such a way that the device for closing the nostrils can be operated from the outside without impairing the field of vision by the user in such a way that manipulations in the vicinity of the hood space are not necessary.

This object is achieved in that the closure elements are designed as lifting elements which are variable in their extension and which are connected via a flow medium contained in supply lines to an operating element which displaces the flow medium.

The advantage of the invention can be seen in the fact that the device for closing the nostrils can be operated without having to carry out any manipulations in the field of view of the protective hood, but that the user can operate the pressure required to close the nostrils simply by actuating the control element, which is designed as a pump, for example can determine itself.

Further advantageous embodiments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims.

In particular, the device for closing the nostrils can be easily adapted to any face profile of a mask wearer due to the advantageous use of expandable plastic cushions.

To further facilitate operation, it can be expediently provided that the carrier has adjustment devices for the lifting elements, from which they advantageously lie in the area of a half mask covering the nostrils. The pressure on the nostrils is thus advantageously distributed over a larger area, and pressure points in the area of the nostrils are avoided. The carrier forms the abutment.

In a further embodiment of the invention, the adjustment devices for the lifting elements can be slot-shaped cutouts in the side parts of the carrier; however, a multi-axis displaceable receiving device for the lifting elements can also be attached to the carrier.

An embodiment of a protective hood according to the invention is shown in the drawing and is explained in more detail below.

  • Fig. 2 die Ansicht des Trägers.
Show it:
  • 1 shows a protective hood with the devices necessary for closing the nostrils,
  • Fig. 2 shows the view of the carrier.

A balloon-shaped control element 3 is via a connecting piece 10, which is a vent tion 11, connected to a feed line 2. This branches on the Y-shaped connecting piece 12 into two branches, which are connected to stretchable plastic cushions 1 in the nose area of the half mask 5.

The plastic cushions 1 are fastened on a circular disk 13 and lie with this on the inside of a V-shaped support 7, which surrounds the nose area of the half mask 5. The supply lines 2 arrive from the outside to the connecting pipes 14, which open into the cavity of the plastic cushion 1. The curved connecting pipes 14 reach through the carrier 7 on its leg surfaces through one of the adjusting devices 8 in the form of elongated holes.

The way the locking elements work allows the device to be handled easily and conveniently for the user. The user presses on the balloon-shaped control element 3, as a result of which an overpressure is generated in the supply lines 2 and pillow 1, which inflates the pillow 1 and presses it against the nostrils. The user can now let go of the balloon 3, and the pressure in the interior of the supply lines 2 and the plastic cushion 1 slowly decreases in accordance with the cross section of the vent hole 11. During this time the user is allowed to equalize pressure within his eustachian tube. While the pressure escapes from the vent hole 11, the interior of the balloon-shaped control element 3 is closed by a check valve with respect to the feed line 2; when the compressed control element 3 is released, its volume is replenished from the ambient atmosphere via an opening check valve in the inlet connection 4. In this way, it is easily possible for the user to operate the device again in short time intervals if his pressure equalization efforts fail.
