Abstract

A chair with four upright legs, each of which has a single socket, has a square frame assembled of four identical sections each having a straight central portion and two end portions bent outwardly through angles of 135 DEG . The end portions of neighboring sections have abutting toothed surfaces, and each pair of such end portions has a tip of reduced cross section which fits into one of the sockets. The seat on the frame is disposed inwardly of the legs to allow for stacking of several chairs in a small area.

Description

The invention relates to a chair with several, preferably three or four legs and a wooden frame connecting these chair legs, which carries a seat approximately the size of the holding frame and consists of the number of chair legs corresponding to many individual frame pieces, some of which are free End a paragraph as a stop and from there to their end face have a reduced cross-section that fits into a stop of the chair leg up to the stop.

Such a chair is known from US-A-4 079 995. However, a holding frame is only created when the chair is assembled by means of trusses connecting the chair legs, which are also connected to one another when connected to the chair legs. In the area of the chair legs, the cross-sections of reduced cross-section run from chair leg to chair leg in the shortest possible way. The chair legs also have a reduced cross-section in the connection area with these trusses which form a holding frame in the assembly position. Thus, even part of the cross section of these traverses runs in the space between adjacent chair legs, which means that chairs made in this way cannot be stacked, so they do not allow space-saving storage.

From GB-A-2 081 079 a chair is known in which an actual holding frame for connecting the chair legs is not provided, but each individual chair leg is connected to the neighboring chair leg with a separate cross member. However, it is possible for the chairs to be stacked in that the lateral cross members and the seating surfaces recede somewhat inwards relative to the chair legs. However, this is paid for by the aforementioned complex assembly of the individual crossbeams between the chair legs. In addition, such individual crossbars lack the possibility of increasing the stability by the mutual connection of these crossbars. In the chair according to GB-A-2 081 079 there is therefore also a crossbar between two longitudinal beams below the actual seat and in front of the crossbar connecting the rear chair legs. This further increases the effort involved in manufacturing and assembling.

It is therefore the task of creating a chair of the type mentioned at the outset, which is simple to manufacture, has the lowest possible weight, yet has great stability and can be designed in a simple manner as a stacking chair without great effort.

The solution to this problem is that the frame pieces in the region of their contact points are each bent outward from their straight course and have a straight continuation following the bend, the continuations of adjoining frame parts being connected, e.g. B. are toothed and lent, that the continuations as projections at the corners of the frame each point outwards and are inserted until they stop directly into a matching slot of the respective chair leg in such a way that they bring about a firm connection of the frame parts, and that the frame runs at a distance within the contour bounded by the chair legs so that the chair is stackable.

The overall result is a firm and stable frame, the frame parts of which are very firmly connected in the area of the chair legs, e.g. B. can be interlocked, which leads to a chair of high strength and stability, but in which only one attachment point is provided for the stabilizing frame on each chair leg and due to the outward holding projections of the frame and its arrangement within the contour of the chair legs is easy to stack.

It is particularly expedient if the extensions are each bent by approximately 135 ° in the common frame plane with respect to the frame parts and the projections formed by two connected extensions run in the case of a square frame in an extension of the diagonals of the frame. This leads to a symmetrical and balanced distribution of forces.

The frame parts can consist of solid wood or of plywood, individual wood layers in the longitudinal direction of the frame part and other wood layers can be oriented transversely thereto. The respective merged and connected ends of the frame parts can be bent under the influence of steam in a production of solid wood. In the case of plywood manufacture, the bend can be shaped and glued during the manufacture of the frame part.

It should also be mentioned that in the case of frame parts made of plywood or plywood, the greater number of layers of wood run in the longitudinal direction of the frame part and the smaller number of layers of wood can be formed as barrier layers arranged transversely thereto. This also results in a high level of flexural strength and strength of such a laminated wood frame in its main load directions.

The teeth at the contact points of the frame parts are expediently arranged approximately horizontally and parallel one above the other in their longitudinal direction, in order to be able to absorb and transmit the forces occurring transversely to the frame plane with certainty.

Es zeigt:An exemplary embodiment of the invention is described in more detail below with its details that are essential to it, using the drawing. It shows:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a chair according to the invention with four legs and a wooden frame connecting them,
  • 2 is a plan view of the chair of FIG. 1 without a seat, on an enlarged scale,
  • 3 shows a cross section of a chair leg in the area of the attachment of the frame,
  • Fig. 4 is an end view of the bent and interconnected continuations of two frame parts brought together at a corner and
  • 5 shows a schematic representation of a stack of chairs according to FIG. 1.

A chair designated as a whole has four legs 2, the two of which are extended beyond the seat surface 4 to accommodate a backrest 3. The four legs 2 are connected by a support frame made of wood, generally designated 5, which also supports the seat surface or seat plate 4.

Above all in FIGS. 2 and 3, it can be seen that the frame 5 consists of a number of frame pieces 6, corresponding to the number of chair legs 2, that is, in the exemplary embodiment consists of four frame pieces 6, each of which follows its straight line in the area of its four contact points 7 are curved outside. Especially in Fig. 3 it can be seen that following the respective bend 8 of a frame part 6, a straight continuation 9 is provided and that the continuations 9 of abutting frame parts 6 are brought together and connected at their contact point, for. B. are interlocked and glued according to FIG. 4. At its common free end, a shoulder can be seen in FIG. 3 as a stop 10 and from there up to its end face 11 the cross section of the merged frame parts is reduced. According to FIG. 3, the connected continuations 9 fit into a slot 12 of the respective chair leg 2 up to the stop 10. The continuations 9 are thus formed by their connection to one another as projections which point outwards at the corners of the frame 5 and directly into the respective chair leg 2 are introduced. They thereby bring about a firm connection of the frame parts, this connection in turn being supported by the receiving slot 12 of the respective chair leg 2, which firmly encloses these projections and extensions 9. This results in a certain distance for the frame 5 itself from the contour, which is formed by imaginary lines between the chair legs 2, which can be seen particularly clearly in FIG. 2. 5, because the chair legs 2 of a chair stacked on a first chair can be guided laterally past the frame parts 6 provided that the seat 4 according to FIG. 1 has the contour of the frame 5 at least not surpassed on the sides.

Bei dem etwa quadratischen Rahmen 5 gemäß Fig. 2 verlaufen somit die von zwei verbundenen Fortsetzungen 9 gebildeten Vorsprünge in Verlängerung der Diagonalen des Rahmens 5.In the exemplary embodiment it is provided that the extensions 9 are each bent by 135 ° relative to the frame parts 6 within the frame plane. In the approximately square frame 5 according to FIG. 2, the projections formed by two connected continuations 9 thus extend the diagonals of the frame 5.

In the end view of the continuations 9 of a projection it can be seen that the teeth 13 at the contact points 7 of the frame parts 6 are arranged approximately horizontally and parallel one above the other in the longitudinal direction thereof. In this way, lateral forces can also be absorbed and transmitted well by the frame.

Die gemäß Fig. 3 an der Außenseite des jeweiligen Stuhlbeines 2 anliegenden Anschläge 10 verbessern die Aufnahmefähigkeit von durch Biegekräfte an dieser Verbindungsstelle auftretenden Einspannmomenten.1 and 4 it can also be seen that the cross-sectional height of the frame parts 6 and their bent extensions 9 remains the same up to the end face 11 thereof. This results in a frame with high flexural rigidity, in which the connection of the frame parts has a multiple function, namely firstly to connect the frame parts, but on the other hand also to lay the chair legs outwards for stackability relative to the frame 5 and only one on each of these chair legs Need opening 12 to connect to the frame 5. It is advantageous that this opening 12 additionally prevent the inserted extensions of the frame parts 6 from detaching from one another. The slots 12 of the chair legs 2 clasp these points of contact of the continuations 9. The stops 10, which lie against the outside of the respective chair leg 2 in accordance with FIG. 3, improve the absorption capacity of clamping moments which occur at this connection point due to bending forces.
