Abstract

A monoski converter is used in combination with a standard pair of skis and ski boots and has a longitudinal stem having front and rear ends respectively formed with transversely projecting rear tabs. The tabs and stem form a pair of like parallel seats that extend longitudinally and that are dimensioned to fit over the respective skis with the rear tabs between the respective toe and heel clamps. The ski boots are fitted to the clamps of the respective skis with the respective rear tabs held tightly between the boots and the skis so that the two skis are locked together into a monoski. The converter is substantially symmetrical about a longitudinal central plane extending along the stem and is unitarily molded of a synthetic resin. The tabs have longitudinal outer edges formed with longitudinal and downwardly projecting ribs delimiting the respective seats. Furthermore, the converter is substantially thicker at the stem than at the tabs and the stem projects downward past the tabs and has longitudinal side edges confronting the respective ribs and also delimiting the respective seats.

Description

The present invention, which relates to the field of snow skiing, specifically relates to an accessory making it possible to transform in a few seconds and temporarily a pair of ordinary skis into a kind of monoski, this without mechanical intervention, and without displacement or modification of adjustment shoe fasteners on skis. Conversely, the kind of monoski thus obtained can again be transformed, just as easily and quickly, into a pair of traditional skis.

It is recalled that a "monoski" is a variety of ski, unique and of large width, on which the two shoes of the skier are attached side by side. The invention provides an accessory which, without creating a real monoski meeting the definition given above, makes it possible to combine the two skis of an ordinary pair in a single machine, reconstituting the essential characteristics of a monoski and thus allowing a skier to move on the snow as if he were practicing monoskiing.

To this end, the accessory according to the invention, for the temporary transformation of a pair of skis into a kind of monoski, is constituted by a plate which has an elongated middle part and two symmetrical lateral parts, projecting and connecting at the rear of the middle part, the symmetrical lateral parts comprising on their underside two substantially parallel imprints, each imprint having a width corresponding to that of a ski for the fitting of the plate on each of the skis of the pair , the symmetrical lateral parts being positioned between the front and rear members for attaching the boots to the skis, so that the attachment of the boots to the binding members during putting on causes, by the pressure of the soles of the boots on the said lateral portions , the joining of the two skis into a kind of monoski by means of the plate.

The invention thus provides an accessory which, in order to be positioned on the two skis and to be secured to the two skis, does not require any fixing member such as screw or nut, and no tool, this accessory being extremely simple since it comprises no mechanism and can be made in one piece, for example by molding. In addition, it adapts to almost all current skis and requires neither transformation nor additional equipment. This accessory, which unites the two skis only in their central part comprising the shoe fastening members, retains a very limited length, therefore a reduced bulk, its compactness and its lightness making it possible to transport it easily, for example in a bag.

The two parallel footprints of the accessory, designed to fit onto the two skis, extend over the entire length of the accessory, and have a width making it possible to accept all skis of usual widths, these footprints being delimited externally by edges of the lateral parts of the accessory. The elongated middle part protrudes under the accessory, and is preferably profiled at its front end, to form a shoe which increases the bearing surface of the skis in the region of the shoe binding members; the sides of said middle part delimit the two indentations on the inside.

Removable wedges can be placed on either side of the middle part of the accessory, on the inside of the two parallel indentations, to achieve lateral wedging in case the skis with which the accessory is used have a width leaving too much play compared to the width of the imprints.

Other compensating shims can be placed, if necessary, on the two symmetrical lateral parts of the accessory which are positioned between the front and rear members for attaching the boots to the skis. These shims, preferably self-adhesive and made of, or covered with an anti-friction material can be important in certain cases for the proper functioning of the shoe bindings, and for a display blocking of the accessory between the soles of the shoes. shoes on the one hand and skis on the other.

In one embodiment of the invention, the front part of the accessory is profiled and raised in the manner of a ski spatula, and it comprises two lateral wings with flanges taking place in front of the members before fixing the boots on skis; the accessory thus has two windows or lateral recesses, delimited by its front wings and by its two other symmetrical lateral parts, which allow precise positioning of the accessory relative to the organs before fixing the boots, therefore relative to the skis.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the accessory is provided with a flexible link, for example attached to its rear part, making it possible to avoid its loss by also temporarily attaching to another element, such as an organ shoes, or around the skier's foot or ankle. This flexible link can also facilitate the transport of the accessory, when it is not used.

From the point of view of use, the accessory object of the invention, and the assembly formed by the union of two skis by means of this accessory, have many advantages:
  • - The accessory is inexpensive, and it allows, for a small investment, to initiate the practice of monoski, this especially for children.
  • - This accessory allows you to pick up at will and very quickly from “monoski” use to ordinary use of skis, so as not to suffer the drawbacks of a real monoski, in particular: in difficult passages such as those where snow is icy, in passages forbidden to monoskis, on ski lift installations ...
  • - The member formed by two skis joined together by means of the accessory has qualities superior to the usual monoski, on certain types of snow or terrain, in particular: "hooking" improved by the fact that this set comprises a total of four edges ( those of the two skis) and not just two edges; flexibility and comfort increased by the fact that the front and rear parts of each ski remain entirely free and can get damaged independently of those of the other ski; great maneuverability for skiing on hard snow tracks and groomed, which is difficult with a usual monoski.
  • - Finally, this accessory does not prevent the normal functioning of the bindings, in particular their opening in the event of a fall of the skier, which guarantees safe use.

The object of the invention accessory, shown alone in Figures 1 to 3, is presented as a plate (1) made in one piece by molding a mechanically resistant plastic. The plate (1), of symmetrical structure with respect to its longitudinal axis (2), has an elongated middle part (3). Two symmetrical parts (4), projecting laterally, are attached to the rear of the middle part (3). At its front end, this middle part (3) is profiled, and extended laterally by two wings (5). The accessory thus has on each side, between the lateral part (4) and the wing (5), a recess (6) of generally rectangular shape, which can be extended at the front by a notch (7) hollowed out in the rear edge of the wing (5).

In addition, the longitudinal outer sides of the lateral parts (4) and of the wings (5) have flanges (respectively 8, 9), aligned and directed downwards. These features define under the accessory two parallel indentations (10), each of which is delimited, on the inside, by one of the sides (11) of the middle part (3) and, on the outside, by a flange (8 ) and a ledge (9).

3 and especially the following figures 4 and 5, the two parallel indentations (10) allow the accessory (1) to be fitted onto two skis (12) arranged in parallel, with a spacing corresponding substantially to the width of the middle part (3 ), each ski (12) being introduced into one of the imprints (10). The lateral parts (4) of the accessory (1) are placed on the skis (12) behind the front fixing stops (13) of the boots, between these front fixing members and the heel pieces which are not shown here. The wings (5) of the accessory (1) take place in front of the front fixing stops (13) of the shoes, the bases (14) of these front stops (13) engaging in the notches (7) of the wings (5).

If the imprints (10) have a width greater than that of the skis (12), creating excessive play, elongated compensating shims (15) are applied against the sides (11) of the middle part (3), as shown in the fig. 5. The wedges (15), inserted between the fiances (11) of the middle part (3) and the inner edges of the skis (12), are provided removable and include, for this purpose, lugs which can be introduced into holes (16) formed on the sides (11) of the middle part (3) - see also Figures 1 or 2. In all cases, the outer edges of the skis (12) come close to the edges (8, 9) of the parts side (4) and wings (5).

The accessory (1) being fitted onto the two skis (12) as described above, its complete connection with the two skis (12) is obtained simply by performing the usual gesture of putting on the skis, consisting for the skier to successively introduce his two shoes (17) into the fastening members constituted by the front stops (13) and the heel pieces (18) - fig. 6. The soles of the shoes (17) then exert, on the lateral parts (4) of the accessory (1), a strong pressure which blocks these parts (4) between the underside of the shoes (17) and the upper surfaces. skis (12), which brings together in a rigid assembly the accessory (1), the two skis (12) and the two boots (17).

Les deux parties latérales (4) de l'accessoire (1) peuvent recevoir, si nécessaire, des plaquettes (19) constituant des cales d'épaisseur - voir figures 4 et 6.The two lateral parts (4) of the accessory (1) can receive, if necessary, plates (19) constituting shims - see Figures 4 and 6.

The combination of the two skis (12) by means of the accessory (1) produces a kind of monoski, the bearing surface of which includes not only the soles of the two skis (12), but also the underside of the middle part (3 ), constituting a kind of profiled pad. The entire front part of the accessory (1), including the wings (5), is also profiled in a bow and raised as indicated in (20), to clear the snow.

6.A ring (21) formed at the rear end of the middle part (3) of the accessory allows the attachment of a flexible link (22) such as cable or strap, ending in a loop that can be attached around of the front stop (13) of one of the skis (12), in order to avoid the loss of the accessory (1) in the event of heaving - see fig. 6.

When the skier wants to switch from the “monoski” use to the usual use of skis (12), he just has to open the bindings (13, 18) which releases the accessory (1). The link (22) can then be used to transport this accessory (1), for example by hanging it "on the shoulder" as shown in fig. 7, which allows, for example, to conveniently borrow a ski lift installation. The small size of the accessory (1) also makes it easy to transport it in a bag, for example a backpack, and also to store it easily.
