Abstract

The plug grip comprises a first and a second arms pivotally mounted together, with the first arm leading to a bearing shoe member and the second arm causing a raise of a screw of an expansion plug. The second arm comprises two successive bearing points, a first bearing point providing a great lever arm ratio for causing a start of bending of the expansion plug and a second bearing point providing a smaller lever arms ratio for increasing a distortion stroke of the expansion plug.

Description

The present invention relates to a new clamp for laying expansion plugs. Metal expansion plugs are more and more used in the building technique because they allow solid fastenings in fragile or brittle plates or walls, for example in composite panels, plaster foams of plastic material, in walls and partitions in hollow bricks as well as in other materials in which it is essential to distribute the stresses.

The expansion plugs that are found on the market generally include two sockets joined by longitudinal elements which must be caused to flame at the rear of the panel covering which has to support the ankle.

The initial deformation, that is to say the initiation of buckling of the ankle, requires the application of considerable force while the subsequent flexion of the ankle no longer requires the application of great force but involves a important working stroke.

The invention solves this problem by creating a new clamp which allows, for the above application, to exert firstly a very large force and then a substantially weaker force but over a large stroke, which allows the expansion of the wall plugs in a simple and fast way.

In particular, FR-A-2 343 564 has made known the preamble of the main claim.

The object of the invention is to create a clamp which is simple to make, very effective and which does not risk damaging the ankle when it is expanded or the screw which must be able to be screwed and unscrewed as many times as may be necessary afterwards. the installation of the ankle.

The invention is therefore characterized in that the second arm is directly connected to the first arm and comprises two successive support points.

The clamp according to Figures 1 to 5 comprises a flat sole 1 in which is formed a notch 2, preferably slightly V-shaped which opens for example forward.

The wings 5, 6 delimit with the cheeks 3, 4 shoulders 7, 8 (fig. 3) against which abut the sides 9, 10 of an arm 11 constituted by a U-shaped profile advantageously forming corrugations 12 near its rear part visible on the left of FIG. 1.

The wings 5, 6 of the cheeks 3, 4 are held between the sides 9, 10 of the arm 11 by an axis 13.

The clamp has a second arm 14, also in the shape of a U, this second arm forming or supporting at its rear part a handle 15. The second arm is engaged by its front end between the cheeks 3, 4 and it supports by lateral sides 16, 17 of the axes 18, 19. The axes 18, 19 pass through elongated slots 20, 21 which are formed in the cheeks 3, 4. The slots 21 are of greater length than the slots 20.

In addition to the above, the drawing shows that the lateral ribs 16, 17 of the second arm 14 define a notch 22 whose width is substantially greater than the diameter of the axis 13.

The axis 19 which has passed through the slots 21 supports a stirrup 2 engaged between the cheeks 3, 4 and having a bottom 24 in which a notch 25 is formed coinciding with the notch 2 of the sole 1.

A hairpin spring 26 is wound on the axis 13 and tends by its two branches to spread the arms 11, 14 so as to hold the bottom 24 of the stirrup 23 against the top of the sole 1.

The construction method described above allows the bottom as well as the cheeks 3, 4 and their wings 5, 6 to be made of very resistant metal, for example made of treated steel, while the arms 11, 14 can be made more economically by mild steel or other metal.

The handle 1 may be metallic or preferably constituted by a plastic sheath delimiting a stop 15a. Although this is not essential, it is nevertheless advantageous, as illustrated in FIG. 1, to provide a pivoting stand 26 forming a lock and articulated on an axis 28 passed through the arm 11 at its rear end.

The crutch 26 is provided with a sole 29 and its length is chosen so that the sole 29 is in the same plane as the sole 1 when said latch is pivoted to be brought into the position for which it is shown in solid lines in Figure 1.

When the stand is pivoted to be brought to position 26a, its sole 29 serves as a lock for the handle 15 of the second arm 14 when the latter is pivoted to be brought to the position for which it is shown in broken lines, which corresponds to the position of non-use of the clamp.

To make it easier to understand the operation of the clamp, the drawing represents a plate 30 behind which an expansion plug 31 must be deformed which contains a screw 32 to firstly ensure its expansion and then the fixing of any object on the plate 30.

In the position shown in FIG. 1, the screw 32 protrudes slightly beyond the plate 30 and it is possible to bring it into the bottom of the notches 2 and 25, the bottom 24 of the stirrup 23 then taking support under the head 33 of the screw. In this position, the axes 18 and 19 carried by the second arm 14 are located in the bottom of the slots 20, 21 and the axis 13 is held in the lower part of the notch 22 by the pin spring 26.

The drawing shows that the arm 11 is held by the bolt 26 in a position for which the sole 1 is applied flat on the underside of the plate 30.

By acting on the handle 15, in the direction of the arrow f 1 , the axis 18 is supported in the bottom of the openings 20 thus constituting a first pivot axis of the second arm 14. The distance separating the axis 18 from l axis 19 being weak, the second arm 14 constitutes a lever with a large ratio of arms of the levers and, consequently, the force exerted on the handle 15 is considerably amplified. This effort has the effect of lifting the axis 19 which drives the stirrup 23 by producing the buckling of the expansion pin 31 which is gradually deformed, as illustrated in FIG. 4.

When the second arm 14 has pivoted sufficiently, the upper part 22a of the notch 22 bears against the axis 13. By continuing to exert a force in the direction of arrow f on the second arm 14, the axis of pivoting of the second arm is moved to come to the axis 13 since the second arm abuts against this axis. The distance between axis 13 and axis 19 being greater than the distance between axes 18 and 19, the ratio of the lever arms changes from what it was previously to become smaller but this results in a increase in the stroke of the axis 19 for the same pivot angle of the second arm 14, which makes it possible to considerably deform the expansion anchors 31, as illustrated in FIG. 5.

It appears from the above that, in a first operating phase, the ratio of the lever arms being important, an equally large force is exerted producing a deformation over a short stroke of the expanding anchor then in a second time the ratio of lever arm decreasing the measure of the deformation of the expanding anchor increases proportionally without the force to be exerted on the handle 15 being appreciably modified since, initially, the ankle 31 worked in compression while it then works essentially in the bending, since the initial buckling force applied to it caused its initial deformation.

La figure 6 illustre une variante selon laquelle les joues 3, 4 et la semelle 1 sont directement formées par le premier bras 11 qui est réalisé, par example, en acier par découpage et emboutissage d'une plaque métallique, la semelle 1 et une semelle 29a assurant la jonction des côtes 9, 10 et des joues 3, 4 décrits précédemment.FIG. 6 illustrates a variant according to which the cheeks 3, 4 and the sole 1 are directly formed by the first arm 11 which is made, for example, of steel by cutting and stamping a metal plate, the sole 1 and a sole 29a ensuring the junction of the ribs 9, 10 and the cheeks 3, 4 described above.

As in the example in FIGS. 1 to 5, the second arm 14 controls the stirrup 23 by the axes 18, 19 as well as by the axis 13. This embodiment allows manufacturing at lower cost due to the simplification.

A similar result is obtained because the first arm 11 can be kept applied to the plate 30 by the flanges 1 and 29a.

The cheeks support an axis 1 3a on which is wound the pin spring 26 which tends, as in the previous examples, to keep apart the first arm 10 from a second arm 14 which, in this embodiment, defines a notch 22, opening to the top.

The second arm 14 supports an axis 19a which can be moved in slots 21a in the cheeks 3a of the first arm. The second arm 14 is also made from a sheet folded in a U and this sheet is shaped at its front part to present in its bottom two curvatures 34 and 35, the curvature 34 being located between the axis 1 9a and the axis 13a while the curvature 35 is located beyond the axis 13a relative to the end of the first and second arms which have notches 2 1 and 36 which coincide with each other.

As before, when the clamp is in the position shown in FIG. 9, it is threaded through the notches 2 1 and 36 below the head of a screw and then there is a tendency to bring the two arms 10 and 14 together while keeping the sole 1 flat against the support plate. from which protrudes the expansion plug screw.

When the second arm 14 is pivoted relative to the first arm 10, the second arm first pivots around the curvature 34, that is to say that the ratio of the lever arms is very large, as described above, which makes it possible to initiate the buckling of the expanding anchor. During this first pivoting movement, the axis 19a moves in the slots 21 a.

When the pivoting of the second arm reaches a sufficient amplitude, it bears against the top of the first arm by the second curvature 35 which decreases the ratio of the lever arms (see fig. 11 and 12) but increases the stroke of the axis 19a and therefore the measurement by which the expanding anchor is deformed.

The result is therefore analogous to what is described in the foregoing with reference to FIGS. 1 to 5.

Bien que cela ne soit pas représenté, le même résultat serait obtenu en formant le bossage 43 dans le second bras 14, ledit bossage étant alors dirigé vers le premier bras 10.FIG. 9a illustrates a development according to which the first and second arms 10 and 14 are provided with handles 40, 41 of relatively flexible material, for example of plastic, which create an extra thickness and, consequently, reduce the space 42 between the two handles. The space 42 could not be increased to allow gripping of the handles in the same hand and the useful stroke of the pliers not having to be reduced, a boss 43 facing the second arm is formed in the first arm 10. In this way, after the start of the ankle buckling when the second arm pivots around the curvature 34, this second arm comes to bear on the boss 43, which increases the useful stroke of the pliers. Although this is not shown, the same result would be obtained by forming the boss 43 in the second arm 14, said boss then being directed towards the first arm 10.

La figure 13 illustre une variante selon laquelle la disposition est analogue à celle décrite ci-dessus en référence aux figures 9 à 12.FIG. 13 illustrates a variant according to which the arrangement is similar to that described above with reference to FIGS. 9 to 12.

However, in this embodiment, the axis 19a is provided with a stirrup 23 identical to that of the embodiment in FIGS. 1 to 5 and the second arm 14 is also provided with an axis 18 similar to that of FIGS. 1 to 5. In this case, the second arm 14 has only the curvature 35 which constitutes the second fulcrum causing a large stroke, as described with reference to FIGS. 9 to 12, the first fulcrum causing the initiation of buckling of the dowel being provided by the axis 18, exactly as described with reference to Figures 1 to 5.

La semelle d'appui 29a formée à partirde la béquille fixe 37 peut évidemment être articulée si on le désire de la même manière que cela apparaît à la figure 1.FIG. 13 shows that the first arm 10 can be provided with a crutch and a support sole 29a, like the embodiment of FIG. 6. The support sole 29a formed from the fixed crutch 37 can Obviously be articulated if desired in the same way as it appears in Figure 1.
