Claims (10)

1. Device for filling cigarette paper tubes and comprising
- a base plate (1),
- two side walls (2 and 3) supported by this base plate (1), one of the side walls (2) being fitted with a tubular projection (10) extending towards the outside for insertion into the cigarette paper tube.(21) to be filled and the other side wall (3) being provided with an opening (11) opposite the aforementioned tubular projection (10),
- at least one rotating roll (4) mounted between the side walls (2 and 3),
- a flexible strip (20) at least partially encircling this roll (4, 5, 6 or 7), and
- a plunger (12) able to move through the above mentioned opening and long enough to expel a cylinder of tobacco from the tubular projection (10) referred to above,

characterized by the fact that, besides the above mentioned roll (4), it includes three other rotating rolls (5, 6 and 7) mounted between the side walls (2 and 3), two rolls (6 and 7) of the four (4, 5, 6 and 7) being situated below the other two (4 and 5) and one of the upper rolls (5) being so mounted that it can move between the side walls (2 and 3) between a position close to the other upper roll (4) and a position remote from this roll (4), and characterized by the fact that the flexible strip is a tube (20) encircling all four rolls (4, 5, 6 and 7) and that this tube can be used to rotate the rolls (4, 5, 6 and 7), the circumference of tube (20) being such that, when the mobile upper roll (5) is in the remote position mentioned, it forms between the upper rolls a trough capable of holding the quantity of tobacco to be used to fill the cigarette paper tube (21) and, when the mobile upper roll (5) is in the close position described, it forms a smaller cavity between the four rolls (4, 5, 6 and 7), this smaller cavity being aligned with the aforementioned tubular projection (10), the device comprising additionally a lid (15) mounted so that it can pivot about a longitudinal rotational axis between the side walls (2 and 3), this lid comprising a downwards-pointing longitudinal wall (16) which is inserted between the upper rolls (4 and 5) when the lid is closed.

Device in accordance with Claim 1 characterized by the fact that the lid (15) comprises at least one side wall (11 and 15) which, when the lid is closed, lies along the outside of the side wall (2) supported by the base plate (1) and fitted with the aforementioned tubular projection (10) and rests firmly against this tubular projection (10) or the cigarette paper tube (21) placed over the tubular projection (10).

Device in accordance with one or other of Claims 1 and 2 characterized by the fact that the circumference of the flexible tube (20) is such that, when the mobile upper roll (5) is in the above mentioned close position, it forms in conjunction with the barrier made by the longitudinal wall (16) of the lid (15) when closed a tube with a diameter at least 30 % smaller than the inside diameter of the cigarette paper tube (21) to be filled.
4. Device in accordance with one or other of Claims 1 to 3 characterized by the fact that the length of the rolls (4, 5, 6 and 7) and of the flexible tube (20) is greater by at least 20 % than the length of a finished cigarette.
5. Device in accordance with one or other of Claims 1 to 5 characterized by the fact that the outer wall of the aforementioned tubular projection (10) is conical, the maximum diameter being approximately equal to the inside diameter of a cigarette paper tube (21) to be filled.
6. Device in accordance with one or other of Claims 1 to 5 characterized by the fact that the opening in side wall (3) opposite the tubular projection (10) mentioned above also takes the form of a tubular projection (11) mounted on this
side wall (3) and extends towards the outside. 7. Device in accordance with Claim 6 characterized by the fact that the plunger (12) is fitted at one end with a stop (13), the length of the plunger (11) being so selected that its two ends can each be accommodated in a tubular projection (10 and 11) and that when the stop (13) at one end meets one of the tubular projections (11) the opposite end (14) is flush with the outer edge of the other tubular projection (10).
8. Device in accordance with one or other of Claims 1 to 7 characterized by the fact that the inside circumference of the tubular projection (10) is approximately tangential to the outside circumference of the lower rolls (6 and 7).
9. Device in accordance with one or other of Claims 1 to 8 characterized by the fact that the two lower rolls (6 and 7) have a diameter appreciably smaller than the diameter of the two upper rolls (4 and 5).
10. Device in accordance with Claim 9 characterized by the fact that the diameter of the small rolls (6 and 7) is smaller by a factor of at least 2.5 than the diameter of the large rolls (4 and 5).
