Abstract

1. A device for embossing a foil, comprising a pair of embossing rollers with pyramid-shaped projections and recesses respectively between which the foil may be passed through, characterized in that both rollers (1, 2) of the pair are equipped with exactly similar hardened pyramid-shaped teeth (3), such teeth having a height of 0,25 to 0,3 mm and engaging into each other by 0,15 to 0,20 mm if the mutual distance between teeth is about 0,4 mm, in order to emboss the foils and to synchronize the rotation of both rollers (1, 2), whereby one roller only is driven whereas the other is carried along synchronously.

Description

The present invention relates to a device for satinizing a foil, in particular a metal foil, with a pair of satinizing rollers, between which the foil can be passed. Frosted foils are used, for example, to line cigarette boxes, wherein non-frosted, shiny areas of the foil can represent trademarks, written instructions or the like. Known devices for satinizing metal foils have a corrugated, hardened metal roller and a roller which is pressed against this roller with a certain pressure and is provided with a suitable smooth plastic covering. There are various disadvantages. Firstly, the roller, which is provided with a soft covering, wears out relatively quickly and has to be replaced and overhauled, which is associated with considerable effort and longer machine downtimes. In addition, the achievable satinization of the film cannot fully satisfy. Finally, the two rollers must be driven strictly synchronously by a special gear, which not only increases the cost of the construction of the device, but also makes it difficult to replace the roller or rollers.

The aim of the present invention is to achieve a better satin finish and at the same time to simplify the construction and operation of the device. This is achieved according to the invention in that both rollers of the pair are corrugated to satinize the film. The corrugations of the two rollers preferably interlock to synchronize the roller rotation, so that a synchronization gear is not necessary for the two rollers. The quality of the satin finish of the film is much better than the satin finish achieved with the known devices. The service life of the rollers are significantly longer than the service life of the known satinizing rollers provided with a soft covering, so that the operation is simplified and considerably shorter downtimes of the device have to be accepted.

The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the drawing.

  • Figur 1 zeigt einen stark vergrösserten Teilschnitt durch die beiden Satinierwalzen undFigure 1 shows a greatly enlarged partial section through the two satin rollers and
  • Figur 2 zeigt eine stark vergrösserte Draufsicht in Abwicklung auf einen Ausschnitt aus der Riffelung oder Zahnung einer Walze.FIG. 2 shows a greatly enlarged top view in development of a section from the corrugation or toothing of a roller.

The device has two calendering rollers 1 and 2, which are identical in all respects. In particular, they have the same diameter and exactly the same type of corrugation or toothing. This corrugation or serration can be seen from the figures. Rows of pyramid-shaped teeth 3 having the same pitch in the axial direction and circumferential direction are provided. As is usual with such satinizing devices, the pitch of the corrugation or toothing is, for example, approximately 0.4 mm, ie the mutual distance in the axial direction and circumferential direction of adjacent teeth is approximately 0.4 mm. The height of the teeth is 0.25 to 0.3 mm. As FIG. 1 shows, the two rollers 1 and 2 are dimensioned and mounted in such a way that the corrugation or toothing interlocks somewhat, namely by 0.15 to 0.2 mm. With the shape shown and the dimensioning of the corrugation or toothing given above, but which are only to be considered as one possible embodiment, very good satinizing of foils, in particular aluminum foils, is achieved. Due to the mutual engagement, the satin rollers 1 and 2 remain without be special synchronization gear in synchronism. The production of satinizing rollers 1 and 2 must be done very carefully. The grooves between the teeth 3 can be machined or milled in the axial direction, while the grooves can be rotated in the circumferential direction. After processing, the rollers are hardened. The very precise machining is of particular importance, so that the dimensions and mutual distances of all rows of teeth are exactly the same. Every error is visible on the frosted film. Apart from these requirements, one is relatively free to choose the dimensions and shapes in order to achieve various desired satin finishes.
