Definitions
- the present invention relates to watch cases. It relates, more particularly, to a new structure of a watch case made of metal or metal compound.
- watch boxes made of metallic compound are produced by sintering and metal watch cases by stamping, stamping or molding, before being subjected to finishing operations which, due to the external shapes box complexes, require several repetitions and represent a large part of the cost price of the product.
- the object of the present invention is to reduce the costs of manufacturing watch cases made of metal or of metal compound, at the same time as enabling new aesthetic effects.
- the watch case according to the invention is formed of a stack of plates, one of which constitutes the bottom of the case and the others of which are cut internally and form the middle part.
- the watch shown in Figures 1a and 1b includes a box which consists of a base 12, a middle part 14, a bezel 16 and a crystal 18.
- the box contains a movement 20, a setting rod hour 22, hour, minute and second hands 24 and a dial 26.
- the case of this watch is formed by a stack of eight plates numbered from 28 to 42.
- the base 12 is constituted by the plate 28 and the bezel 16 by the plate 42.
- the intermediate plates 30 at 40 constitute the middle part 14, the plate 36 forming, at the same time, the dial 26.
- Plates 28 to 42 are roughly shaped like hexagons. Their external dimensions are advantageously chosen so as to obtain a staircase middle profile, as it appears in FIGS. 1a and 1b.
- FIG. 1b only shows a screw-foot and a screw.
- holes 60 are provided in the plates 28 to 40 to allow the passage of the screw-feet 44 and the screws 46.
- the plate 42 has a circular central opening closed by the glass 18.
- the fixing thereof is advantageously carried out by gluing.
- the plate may itself be transparent and thus act as ice.
- Circular openings 45 and 47 made respectively in the plates 38 and 40, define a housing for the needles 24.
- the plate 36 which acts as a dial, carries the indexes 48 and further comprises a small central hole 50 providing passage to the trees with needles.
- Circular openings 52, 54 and 56 made respectively in the plates 30, 32 and 34, define a housing for the movement 20 of the watch.
- the opening 56 is slightly larger than the openings 52 and 54, so as to allow the internal edge of the plate 32 to be used as a seat for a thread 58 formed at the top of the movement 20.
- the plate 32 also has two ears 62 serving as fasteners for the watch strap.
- the plates can be simply joined by gluing. A waterproof watch is thus obtained, but it is not possible to repair.
- the movement 20 is first put in place in the half-middle formed by the plates 28, 30, 32 and 34.
- the watch may comprise, in a more conventional manner, a dial which is carried by the movement.
- the plate 36 has an opening having substantially the same dimension as the openings 44 and 46 of the plates 38 and 40.
- Metals and metallic compounds offer the most interesting characteristics. Stainless steel, by its moderate cost, its pleasant appearance, its mechanical and chemical resistance and its machinability, lends itself particularly well to the production of boxes according to the invention. Copper or aluminum alloys offer a wide variety of colors, thanks to the surface treatments they can undergo.
- Obtaining particularly resistant boxes is possible by the use of plates of metal compounds such as nitrides, carbides and borides of tantalum, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, etc., and oxides such as alumina.
- the metal plates are preferably cut into strips, by means of a progressive stamp which makes the interior openings before cutting the exterior shape.
- the metal compound plates are produced by sintering, in molds which define the interior and exterior shapes.
- the plates are then subjected to the finishing operations, by grinding, brushing and / or polishing. As the plates are flat, it is possible to automate these operations.
- the plates undergo, if necessary, a surface treatment which gives them their final appearance, then they are assembled as described above.
