Definitions

  • the subject of the invention is a press which serves to subject a material similar to a pulp to sufficient pressure to express the liquid phase which it contains.
  • pulp used here more specifically designates beet pulp, but it should be understood that it also serves to designate any material, even non-vegetable, having a similar consistency, such as sludge for example which one wishes to extract the liquid part which s is mixed there.
  • the press of the invention is intended for implementing the process which is the subject of French patent FR-A-2,530,482 (publication of January 27, 1984) of the applicant. We can therefore refer to the latter to know more in detail this process which is only mentioned here briefly. It consists in compressing the pulp into numerous thin layers alternated with a canvas with channels for evacuating the liquid phase.
  • a press according to the invention as defined in claim 1 comprises a cylindrical casing opening along a longitudinal line, a shaft mounted coaxially with this casing and passing freely through it, a cylinder for winding a canvas wedged in rotation on this shaft by limiting with the envelope an annular interval, a chamber with expandable volume and retractable in the radial direction of the envelope partially occupying this annular space, this chamber being open in correspondence with the envelope and connectable to a source of pressurized fluid, a pulp support canvas fixed by one end to the cylinder so as to be able to be wound on itself and on the pulp around the latter surrounded by the retracted chamber.
  • the pulp support fabric has a length which corresponds to the just rollable length and its free end is provided with at least one pulling cable which extends outside the envelope after winding of this fabric.
  • the fabric is arranged to pass before entering the envelope, under the outlet of a hopper containing pulp.
  • the hopper has two distant orifices for leaving the pulp, two rewinding rollers are arranged to each allow rewinding of a respective star not loaded with pulp, each of these fabrics ending in the cylinder winding of a corresponding envelope passing under a respective orifice of the hopper.
  • the rewinding rollers are advantageously mounted close to one another and parallel to each other above an end part of a conveyor for discharging pressed pulp.
  • the press of the invention comprises a casing 1, preferably cylindrical although its exact shape does not play an important role in the implementation of the method; it has a side wall 2 in the opposite end parts from which are pierced circumferentially spaced radial holes 3 which are covered by two circumferential troughs 4, 5 respectively, with a U-shaped profile; these chutes 4, 5 are applied against the outer face of the side wall 2 to collect any liquid leaving through the radial holes 3 and lead it to a corresponding manifold 6, 7 connected to a low point of these chutes.
  • the opposite extreme walls 8, 9 of the cylindrical casing 1 may be partial only, starting from the side wall 2.
  • a shaft 10 mounted coaxially with the casing 1 freely traverses the latter; it is supported by external bearings 11, 12 and it supports inside the envelope 1 a winding cylinder 13 fixed in rotation.
  • This cylinder 13 comprises a central core 14 of diameter smaller than that of the side wall 2 so as to limit therewith an annular interval 15.
  • Two end flanges 16, 17 extend in transverse planes from the central core 14 up to the proximity of the side wall 2.
  • the radial holes 3 drilled in the latter are preferably located substantially in line with the inner face of each end cheek 16, 17, respectively. against each of these interior faces is fixed an annular strip of screen cloth 18, 19 respectively, the role of which will appear later.
  • a chamber 20 with expandable and retractable volume connected to a source of pressurized fluid (not shown) by a pipe 21 which passes through the side wall 2.
  • the chamber 20 is applied against the internal face of the latter and it does not occupy the entire annular interval 15.
  • the cylindrical envelope 1 is openable by virtue of its constitution in two parts 1 A, 1 B assembling on either side of a diametral joint plane (FIG. 3). On one side is a hinge 22 of the two parts 1 A, 1 B and on the opposite side are provided ears 23 alternating in longitudinal direction on one part and on the other, each having an opening 24. In the openings 24 a pin 25 is introduced (FIG. 1) when they are aligned after closing of the envelope 1.
  • a part 1 A is fixed and the other part 1 B is pivotable around the hinge 22.
  • the chamber 20 is also openable because it has two ends 20A, 20B extending longitudinally in correspondence respectively with the ears 23. In. sition opening, the two ends 20A, 20B limit an inlet 26 'which is just an extension of the inlet 26.
  • the chamber 20 is continuous; it is made of flexible or elastic material.
  • a support fabric 27 is fixed by one end to the surface of the central core 14 of the winding cylinder 13.
  • the width of this fabric 27 is slightly less than the distance which separates the screen fabrics 18, 19 fixed to the cheeks 16, 17 so that it can be wound on itself around the central core 14, between the screen cloths 18, 19.
  • the support fabric 27 passes through the inlets 26, 26 ′ and it extends to a rewinding roller 29 arranged outside .
  • the support fabric 27 passes under an outlet orifice 30 of a hopper 31 provided with a bottom conveyor 32 whose width, as well as that of the orifice 30, correspond to the width of the fabric 27.
  • the hopper 31 contains pulp 33 which the bottom conveyor 32 spreads at a controlled rate on the support fabric 27.
  • the hopper 31 symmetrically by providing there an orifice 30 'symmetrical with respect to a central plane and by using a bottom conveyor 32 of the reversible type. After passing under the orifice 30, the support fabric 27 passes around a deflection pulley 34 before arriving at the rewinding roller 29 which is closer to the cylindrical envelope 1.
  • Each support fabric 27, 27 ′ is fixed to its rewinding roller by means of two pulling cables, spaced in transverse direction, which extends the end thereof.
  • this fabric is wrapped in totatile around the central core 14, the cables each pass respectively through a corresponding notch 36 ( Figure 1) provided on the edge of one of the parts 1 B limiting the entry 26.
  • Figure 1 provided on the edge of one of the parts 1 B limiting the entry 26.
  • We can therefore close completely the cylindrical envelope 1 containing all of the wound support fabric 27, without it ceasing to be joined by the cables to the corresponding rewinding roller 29. It is advantageous to attach this fabric 27 to the central core 14 using pulling cables, in order to be able to use the entire length.
  • the press of the invention operates as follows.
  • the hopper 31 being filled with pulp 33 to be dehydrated, the chamber 20 being retracted, the cylindrical envelope 1 being in the open position and the support fabric 27 being wound around rewinding roller 29, this fabric 27 is wound around the central core 14 by loading it with a regular layer 37 of pulp 33 dosed by the bottom conveyor 32, as can be seen in FIG. 1.
  • the expressed liquid phase of the pulp follows the canvas, in its transverse direction, arrives at the sieve fabrics 18, 19 which cover the cheeks 16, 17 and, from there, arrives in the chutes 4, 5 to gather in the collectors 6, 7.
  • the screen fabrics 18, 19 facilitate the flow of the liquid phase towards the chutes 4, 5; one could replace them by equivalent means, for example by grooves in the radial direction dug in the cheeks 16, 17, or even by a gap formed between the edges of the fabric and the cheeks if one managed with a winding precise enough to preserve such an interval.
  • the diameter of the central means 14 When the rolled support fabric is compressed, the diameter is reduced, which tends to create circumferential undulations which are harmful to regular compression of the pulp. This drawback is minimized by observing a determined ratio between the diameter of the central means 14 and the diameter of the fabric wound on the latter. In practice, this second diameter is at most 1.5 times the diameter of the central core 14.
  • the chamber 20 is chosen accordingly so that it releases, in the retracted state, around the central core 14, the space necessary for the winding of the support fabric 27.
  • FIG. 3 shows the execution of this operation on the canvas 27 ′ using a scraper blade 38 ′, the winding and unwinding operations taking place simultaneously on one side and the other of the hopper 33 in a symmetrical installation as described above.
  • each fabric 27, 27 ′ woven in polyethylene fibers had a width of 1 m and a length of 100 m; the cylindrical casing 1 had an inside diameter of 1.20 m and the central core had a diameter of 0.70 m.
  • the linear speed of the support fabrics 27, 27 ' was adjustable between 0.33 and 1 m / s; the quantity of pulp deposited was set at 14 kg / m 2 .
  • the total energy consumption was 0.5 kWh per tonne of pulp, which corresponded to a saving of 17.5 kg of fuel oil per tonne of pulp compared to conventional heat drying.
  • the chamber 20 was made of 1 mm thick polyurethane, heat welded; it had an elongation of 400%; the compression of the canvas and the pulp against the central core 14 being made at a pressure of 50 bars for 10 minutes.
  • the invention is practicable according to a simplified aspect according to which the winding cylinder 13 is devoid of the cheeks 16, 17 and the screen cloths 18, 19 9 and only comprises the central core 14 on which the winding of the support fabric 27.
