Definitions
- the present invention relates to a lock for a vehicle door.
- a lock which comprises a housing for the lock mechanism, a keeper movable relative to the case, an actuating member intended to release the lock mechanism and the keeper in view of the opening of the door, motor means coupled to the actuating member to allow automatic control of this lock and means to increase the force exerted on said actuating member by the keeper during opening of the lock, these reduction means comprising a train of three links articulated one on the other, the intermediate link being provided with means for hooking the keeper and the extreme links being articulated on the housing around axes respective parallel to each other and to the axes of articulation of the intermediate link, while one of the end links cooperates for locking the lock with the actuating member by means of at least one notch stop .
- the motor means which allow automatic opening are formed by an electromagnet which acts on the actuating member which in turn is in the form of a lever articulated on the housing.
- a lock of the type indicated above which is characterized in that said stop catch is provided on the actuating member and cooperates with a locking finger provided on the corresponding end link and in that said motor means comprise an electric motor with a rotating shaft which is intended to act on said actuating member by means of a transmission converting the rotational movement of this shaft into a movement in a plane of said actuating member.
- Figs. 1 to 6 show a first embodiment of the invention.
- the lock comprises a housing 1 in which is housed a lock mechanism 2 (Figs. 5 and 6).
- This housing has a bottom 3 (Fig. 2) which is intended, in most cases to be fixed on the edge of a vehicle door, the corresponding amount of the body of this vehicle carrying a striker 4, being under the shape of a cylindrical rod section as shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
- the lock mechanism comprises a train 5 of three links 6, 7 and 8 which are hinged together around axes 9 and 10 respectively, while the end links 6 and 8 are hinged in in addition around pins fixed in the housing and defining axes 11 and 12. All these articulation axes are parallel, that is to say perpendicular to the bottom plate 3.
- the intermediate link 7 which is here in the form of a thick sheet metal plate is provided with a notch 13 the edge of which comprises two notches 14 and 15 serving to retain the keeper 4, respectively in the "first notch” positions and “second notch” well known to specialists. It will be noted that in order to improve the flexibility of movement of the intermediate link or plate 7, the pins 11 and 12 are surrounded by guide sleeves 16 and 17 which penetrate into arcuate openings 18 and 19 formed in the intermediate link 7.
- a return spring 20 biases the mechanism of the lock in the direction of opening. This spring bears on the one hand on one of the guide sleeves 17 and on the other hand on the articulation 10 between the end link 8 and the intermediate link 7.
- Figs. 1 to 3 show the members of the lock which are housed outside the housing 1.
- an actuating member 21 is provided which has the form of a lever pivoting on the bottom around a fixed pin 22.
- This lever comprises a first branch 21 a on the outer edge of which are provided two notches 23 and 24 cooperating with a locking finger 25 which is part of the articulation 10 and which extends through a light 26 in the bottom 3 in a direction perpendicular thereto.
- the lever 21 has a second branch, the inner edge of which has a slightly arched shape and acts as a cam track 21 b.
- the lever is constantly stressed in a position in which the edge provided with notches 23 and 24 are in contact with the locking finger 25.
- the cam 21b cooperates with a pin 27 which is provided on one of the faces of a toothed wheel 28 rotatably mounted around a rivet 29 fixed on the bottom 3.
- This wheel cooperates with the worm 30 an electric drive motor 31 also fixed to the bottom 3.
- the worm preferably has a trapezoidal thread while the toothing of the wheel 28 is helical.
- the wheel 28 can be molded and can therefore be manufactured at low cost.
- the relative position of the wheel and the screw can be affected by wide tolerances, which is not the case with the conventional solution of the worm drive in which the wheel generally has a type of toothing global.
- Two switches 32 and 33 are associated with the motor 31.
- One 32 is associated with the wheel 28 and its contact arm 32a is in abutment against a circular cam provided on the wheel 28 and whose lower part 34 of small angular extent is practically found in front of the switch when the lock is in the open position.
- the switch 33 on the other hand is associated with the locking finger 25 and its contact arm 33a is kept in its unstable position when this finger is in the position in which the lock is open (FIG. 3). In other words, the switch 33 switches, as soon as the finger 25 begins its movement corresponding to the closing of the lock.
- a lever 36 articulated around the spindle 22 and provided with a lateral fixing lug 37 to which a traction cable 38 or other similar member is fixed.
- the cable 38 is fixed to a pull tab 39 which can be provided at a suitable location on the interior panel of the door.
- the cable passes through a sheath 40 in a manner known per se.
- the lever 36 is provided with another lateral tab 41 extending in a direction opposite to the tab 37 and cooperating with the outer edge of the branch 21 a of the lever 22.
- the housing 1 has a notch 42 for receiving the keeper 4 and that the wall of this notch has an elastic tongue 42a which penetrates slightly into the space delimited by the notch in order to serve as a shock absorber during penetration of the strike in the lock.
- FIGS. 9A to 9F represent the electrical circuit supplying the electric motor, the switches 32 and 33 also being shown, moreover as a third switch 43 which constitutes the button for actuating the lock.
- the arrangement of the latter is such that the lock can be controlled both from inside and from outside the vehicle.
- a spring 44 mounted around the pin 22 is associated with the actuation lever 21 so as to urge it against the locking finger 25, which also keeps the lever 36 in its normal inactive position.
- Fig. 9A represents the electrical circuit at rest.
- the motor does not turn and is short-circuited by the switch 32 and the lock is assumed to be locked as shown in FIG. 1.
- Fig. 9B the user actuates the switch 43, (unlocking order), the motor 31 is energized and begins to rotate.
- the pin 27 moves angularly and the switch 32 switches because after a few degrees of rotation, the arm 32a is pushed back by the wheel (high range of its annular cam).
- the pin 27 goes up the cam 21 b by pushing back the lever 21 which begins to pivot around the spindle 22.
- the wheel 28 can return to its initial position only if the button of the switch 43 is not actuated (FIG. 9E). If this button is not pressed, the motor circuit 31 is closed through the switch 32, the wheel 28 makes a U-turn until the arm 32a falls back into the lower part 34 of the wheel cam 28. The motor stops immediately because it is short-circuited and the lock returns to the configuration in Fig. 9A whether the door is open or closed.
- Non-automatic unlocking can be carried out from inside the car by the pull tab 39 which switches the lever 36 in turn to pivot the lever 21 as if it were actuated by the pin 27 of the wheel 28.
- Figs. 7 and 8 show a variant of the lock in which a lever 36A is provided which, instead of acting by means of a lateral tab on the lever 21, has a cam-shaped edge 44 which acts directly on the finger blocking 25. This when the pull tab 39 is actuated toggle the lever 21 while escaping from the notches 23 and 24 thereof.
- the variant which has just been described allows manual unlocking of the lock not only in the absence of the supply voltage, but also when the spring 20 breaks.
- the arrangement of the three links 6, 7, 8 is such that the lock can practically not be unlocked, if at the start of unlocking a slight push is not exerted on the intermediate link 7 in the direction of the opening.
- the spring 20 is provided for this purpose and also to supplement the force which is normally generated at the opening of the door by the elastic seals thereof.
- these seals lose a large part of their elasticity, so that the spring 20 is caused to completely supplant them.
- the variant of Figs. 7 and 8 has the advantage of allowing the opening of the lock even if under these aging conditions, the spring 20 were to break.
