Abstract

An elastomeric sectional strip, for sealing an expansion joint on a building. Each edge of the strip is thickened for engagement in a corresponding one of a pair of grooves bordering the joint edges and is characterized by a three-point mounting of its thickened edge region inside each of said grooves. Each three point mounting is constituted by: (a) a bulge on an upper side of the edge region, in which case said bulge is located inside said groove adjacent its opening; (b) a shoulder projecting in the form of a wedge into said groove in the opposite direction to the insertion direction on an underside of said edge region, in which case after complete insertion, said shoulder bears against a corresponding stop face of the groove and (c) a camber on said upper side of said edge region close to its outer end.

Description

The invention relates to an elastomeric profile strip for sealing structural expansion joints, the edges of which are thickened for connection in corresponding grooves in the joint edges.

Such profile tapes are known in manifold designs. They differ among other things with regard to their folding principle, the type of fastening, the materials used or the like. For their configuration, for example, the field of application is also of considerable influence; A profile tape in expansion joints of traffic routes is of course subject to entirely different requirements than a profile tape intended for sealing expansion joints in building construction.

A known profile tape for expansion joints (CH-PS 520 823) has fastening edges designed as a hollow profile. The hollow profiles can be folded up easily, but are difficult to insert and insufficiently secured against tearing out.

In another known profile tape for sealing expansion joints (DE-GM 6 605 223), the fastening edges are provided with barb-like projections which spread out in a groove cavity on the edge of the joint. Such profile strips are difficult to assemble because of the squeezing and deformation work involved. This work - is often made more difficult by the fact that in narrow joints the lateral grooves for receiving the fastening edges of the profile strips are difficult to access.

On another known profile tape (DE-OS 30 47 904), bendable strips are molded onto the free ends of the fastening edges to facilitate assembly. When inserting the fastening edges into the corresponding grooves, these strips lie against the band profile in the region of the fastening edges and, after being completely inserted, expand against supporting surfaces formed on corresponding cavity extensions of the fastening grooves. On the other hand, the mentioned strips prevent a desirable thickening of the fastening edges.

Finally, there are profile strips (US 3 888 599) in which the edge thickening takes advantage of the formula elasticity of a solid rubber part in the corresponding Mounting groove is squeezed. Here, too, the assembly is difficult and the protection against tearing out is low.

The present invention has for its object to provide a profile tape with increased security against tensile stress, which can be assembled with little effort, but still has a simple, particularly advantageous for the extrusion process profiling.

This object is achieved in a profile strip of the type mentioned in that
  • a) an elevation at the top of the edge region, the elevation being arranged within the groove adjacent to its opening,
  • b) a projection protruding in a wedge shape against the direction of insertion (F1) into the groove on the underside of the edge region, the projection being supported against a corresponding latching surface of the groove after the insertion is complete and
  • c) a bulge on the top of the edge area at or near its outer end.

According to feature a), the upper elevation serves as a counter bearing and as a sealing lip, i.e. when the edge region is pushed completely into the fastening groove, the elevation is located inside the groove, where it is pressed tightly against the adjacent inner wall. In addition, the increases on both sides can make assembly easier by forming attachment surfaces for assembly tools (FIG. 4).

The protrusion on the underside serves to limit the insertion path when mounting the profile strip; in this way an exact limitation of the groove depth is not necessary.

According to feature b), the downwardly projecting wedge-shaped attachment serves to secure the edge region of the band profile against being pulled out of the corresponding fastening groove. In cooperation with the features a) and c), it is sufficient to make this approach relatively weak, so that the deformation work during assembly is low. The wedge shape of the approach facilitates installation. A support surface of the extension, pointing towards the expansion joint, comes into contact with a corresponding latching surface of the groove when the edge region is fully inserted, formed by an internal groove extension.

The interaction between the features a), b ) and c) takes place in such a way that, in the final assembly position, the bulge provided towards the top of the profiled tape at the outer end of the edge area runs so strongly against the adjacent groove wall that the outer edge area as a whole extends from the groove wall is deflected away, which could also be described with a kind of pitching movement of the outer edge area of the profiled tape. As a result of the described deflection of the outer edge region, which is produced with appropriate material bracing, the wedge-shaped attachment on its underside is increasingly pressed behind the corresponding latching surface of the groove in order to increase the latching effect. The increase on the top of the profile strip (sealing lip) acts as a counter bearing for the deflection of the outer edge area. The installation state is therefore characterized by a braced three-point bearing between the support points of bulge, elevation and wedge-shaped shoulder (Fig. 3).

The fillet on the opposite side of the bulge or a corresponding concave shape of the outer edge region is necessary in order to deflect it accordingly at the start of insertion into the fastening groove, which has a particularly advantageous effect with the aid of an assembly tool. Despite the head-like thickening of the outer edge area, the fillet also allows it to be inserted freely through the narrowed outer groove section and serves as a locking surface for the profile strip when it is inserted into the joint gap (FIG. 4). Sebstverständlih is within the E rtindung a shape adapted to the profile strip, in particular the edge region forming the attachment groove certain essential. To this end, the invention proposes that the grooves each have a hollow cross section which is adapted to the cross-sectional shape of the thickened edge regions, but which does not have the upper bulge of the profiled strip and whose height in the entrance region is less than the profile thickness of the edge region, measured by the lower shoulder.

An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing. It shows
  • 1 shows a cross section through the left half of a profile strip outside the fastening groove,
  • 2 the edge area of the profile strip according to FIG. 1 half inserted into the fastening groove,
  • Fig. 3, the edge region of the profile strip according to Figures 1 and 2, fully inserted into the mounting groove and
  • Fig. 4 shows a complete profile cross section in a position immediately before the start of the assembly process.

In FIGS. 1 to 3, the assembly is shown in three phases, the profile strip itself being shown only as a partial cross-section, namely in FIG. 1 as a half section and in FIGS. 2 and 3 only a cross section through the edge region. 4, on the other hand, shows the two joint edges 3, 4 delimiting an expansion joint 2 and between them the complete profile strip 1 in the starting position for assembly.

In the exemplary embodiment selected here, the joint edges 3, 4 are shown essentially as U-profiles, the legs of which delimit a groove 5 for connecting an edge region 6 of a profile strip 1. The groove 5 has a narrowed inlet cross-section or an enlarged groove cavity 15 inside, which is delimited, inter alia, by an inwardly facing latching surface 7 of the lower leg of the U-profile. Each edge region of the profiled strip 1 comprises an elevation 8 on the upper side and a bulge 9 at the outer end of the edge region 6.

Die Achse a verläuft vertikal durch die mittlere Umbiegung 13 des Profilbands 1.On the underside, the edge area 6 comprises a protrusion 10 and a wedge-shaped projection 11, as compared to the elevation 8 mentioned. Compared to the bulge 9, the underside of the profile has a groove 12. In addition, the profile cross section in the edge area 6 is somewhat thicker than in the rest of the cross-sectional area of the profile strip 1. The axis a runs vertically through the central bend 13 of the profile strip 1.

In the area of the narrowed inlet cross-section, the wedge-shaped shoulder 11 provided on the underside of the band lies against the underside of the profiled band when pushed in according to arrow F1. The insertion can be carried out by a tool attached to the elevation 8 in the direction of the arrow P1, which tool itself is not shown.

The elevation 8 lies against the assigned wall of the groove 5. The increase 8 forms the counter bearing and a sealing lip against the ingress of water. The groove cavity 15 is dimensioned so that the bulge 9 through when the edge region 6 is fully inserted the wall of the groove is deflected downward, the wedge-shaped projection 11 is thus pressed firmly against the locking surface 7 of the groove cavity 15. The lower projection 10 forms, so to speak, a stop against the edge region 6 being pushed too far into the groove 5. On the upper side of the completely inserted edge region 6 there is a compensation space 14 for compensating for tolerance deviations. The position of the bulge 9 and the elevation 8 relative to the wedge-shaped extension 11 is characterized by the lever arms h 1 and h 2 .

In connection with FIG. 3, it is clear that the firm hold of the edge region 6 inserted into the groove 5, which is achieved with the profile strip described, is essentially brought about by a controlled deformation of the edge region 6 in the interior of the groove 5. As a result of the downward deflection of the outer end of the edge region 6, which has the bulge 9, according to the arrow F2, the lower shoulder 11 is spread out against the latching surface 7 of the groove wall. The total cross section of the edge region 6 is thus inclusive the approach 7 effective in tensile stress, ie the tensile load can be correspondingly large.

Fig. 4 shows schematically an assembly tool 16 with flaps 17 at the lower end. If the assembly tool is raised in accordance with arrow F3, the ends of the wings 17 undercut the elevations 8 which are directed inwards in the position of the profiled strip, so that the profiled strip is lifted as a whole. The fillets 12 on the underside of the edge regions 6 lie against the lower leg of the respective edge profile 3, 4 and in this way bring about a deflection of the ends of each edge region according to arrow F4 into the interior of the grooves 5. After deflection into the horizontal position of the edge regions 6, these are also completely pushed into the grooves 5 with a tool by further pressing on the elevations 8 in the direction of the arrow F1 (FIG. 2).
