Description

The invention relates to a device for sound-sealing closure of a machine housing opening, which is used to feed or discharge material to be processed in the machine. Printers for data processing systems are a typical example of such machines. Such printers work at very high working speeds, the mechanical components of this printer developing strong working noises, which emerge predominantly through the openings in the printer housing, which are used to feed or discharge the material to be printed, for example receipts, passbooks, printing paper or the like. This effect is reinforced by the fact that the paper protruding from the openings itself acts as a sound-emitting membrane.

It is already known to largely close such openings by flaps lying more or less closely against the material to be printed. If those . Flaps do not fit tight enough on this material, their sound-insulating effect is generally very low. However, if they are too tight against the material to be printed, there is a risk that they will transport this material, usually thin paper, hinder, so that there is either a line slip or the paper is crumpled in the device.

In particular in the case of printing devices for printing passbooks or similar uneven materials, the known cover flaps have proven to be completely inadequate since they do not conform to their contours. That is why there are considerable gaps between the cover flaps and the passbooks to be printed, from which the sound continues to emerge.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a device of the type mentioned in the preamble of claim 1, which ensures largely gap-free sealing of the machine housing opening even with irregularly shaped material to be printed, without the material transport being impeded.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that a flexible mat or the like covering this and having an edge area on the opening wall is arranged in the opening, in that at least the edge area lying on it can be magnetically polarized, and in that the housing wall assigned to the overlying edge area contains means which can choose to polarize the mat in the same direction or neutral or opposite.

The mat is so flexible that it can easily adapt to the contours of the materials in question, for example open passbooks, journals or the like. The magnetic polarization of the edge area lying on the material to be printed gives the possibility of passing it through magnetic forces from this material. or pull against this material. This is done by means arranged in the housing wall opposite this edge area, which can be selectively and controlled magnetically polarized so that they exert a repulsive or an attractive effect on the overlying edge area of the mat. In this way, the mat can be placed firmly on the material to be printed during the printing phase, so that extensive sound insulation is achieved, but can be lifted off the material to be printed during transport or during insertion.

According to one feature of the invention, the mat consists of any sound-absorbing material in which magnetizable materials are embedded at least in the overlying edge area.

According to a further feature of the invention it is provided that the magnetically polarizable means arranged in the housing wall each comprise permanent magnets surrounded by electrical coils with a polarization which is in the same direction as the polarization of the mat, the coils being used to generate a field of the same size as the permanent magnets however opposite magnetic field can be connected to a direct current source. Each permanent magnet is surrounded by a magnetic field. This is directed so that it has a repulsive effect on the edge region of the mat assigned to it. When energization of the permanent magnet surrounding the coil in a magnetic field that is generated that cancels the field of the permanent magnet, so that the repellent effect 'is canceled and the mat against the material to be printed or the housing wall. In principle, there is also the possibility of designing the coil in such a way that a field opposite the field of the permanent magnet is created, so that the mat is drawn against the housing wall or the material to be printed by magnetic attraction forces.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the permanent magnets are designed as horseshoe magnets with their poles facing the edge of the mat, the edge of the mat in each case having poles of the horseshoe magnets opposite the poles of the same name. In this way, the soundproofing mat can be covered with repellent or attractive points almost as tightly as desired, so that even with strongly structured forms of the material to be printed a perfect, gap-free seal is possible.

In another exemplary embodiment, the mat is pressed onto the housing wall by its own weight or by its own mechanical tension during the printing process and is lifted by simple electromagnets which are polarized in the same direction as the polarization of the mat by energization.

In another exemplary embodiment, the mat is lifted from the housing wall by mechanical spring means and magnetically pulled to the housing wall during the printing process, in that electromagnets are polarized in opposite directions to the polarization of the mat by energization.

The printer 2 shown in FIG. 1 essentially consists of a printing unit 6 placed on a printing table 4. At the top of the printing unit 6 there is an opening 8 for feeding the material 10, for example paper, to be printed which is arranged behind the printer 2 . This paper is guided around a deflection roller 12 past a print head 14. Then it comes out again through an opening 16. The opening 16 is designed in a known manner as a narrow slot, which allows the passage of single or multi-layer paper. On one edge of the slot, a mat 18 is fastened which extends over the entire slot width and, in its natural position, its edge region 20 is intended to bear against the housing wall 22 opposite it. This housing wall 22 encloses a chamber 24 in which means 26 are arranged, by means of which the mat 18 can be lifted off the housing wall 22, as will be described in more detail below.

A slot 28 is formed between the printing table 4 and the housing of the printing unit 6, in which, for example, a passbook 30 can be inserted, which is to be printed by the printing head 32. The opening 34 of the slot 28 can be closed by a flexible mat 36 which is fastened to the housing of the printing unit 6 and with its lower edge region 38 lies loosely on the housing wall 40 opposite it, which forms the printing table 4. In turn, means 42 are arranged in the printing table, which allow the mat 36 to be lifted off the housing wall 40 via magnetic forces.

The mat 36 has alternating magnetic north and south poles on its lower edge area 38. The assignment of the peripheral area 38 with north or south poles can be chosen to be more or less dense, depending on the requirements. The means 42 consist of several horseshoe magnets 44, the north and south poles of these horseshoe magnets 44 each lying opposite the north and south poles of the mat 36. Instead of the horseshoe magnets, these equivalent pot magnets, magnets in the form of a lying E or the like can also be used. The repulsive forces acting on the edge area 38 from the horseshoe magnets 44 are sufficient to lift it away from the housing wall 40 to such an extent that the passbook 30 can be inserted. Simultaneously with the activation of the print head 32, the coils 46 are connected to a direct current Source 48 connected, the current direction is selected so that there is an opposite magnetic field of the same size as the magnetic field of the horseshoe magnets. This removes the magnetic effect of the horseshoe magnets, so that the edge area 38 of the mat 36 rests against the passbook 30 in the manner shown in a sound-proof manner. The magnetic field of the coils 46 can also be chosen so strong that the resulting magnetic flux is opposite to that of the horseshoe magnet, so that the north and south poles of the edge area 38 are opposite poles of the same name. In this way, the contact of the mat 36 against the housing wall or the savings book 30 can still be improved.

The paper 10 introduced through the opening 8 leaves the printing unit again via the opening 16. The mat 18 lies in its natural magnetically unaffected position against the housing wall 22. The edge region 20 is polarized such that, for example, there is a magnetic north pole near the edge and a magnetic south pole further away from the edge. The means 26 in turn consist of a series of horseshoe magnets 50, the north or south poles of which lie opposite the corresponding poles of the mat 18 and thus cause the latter to be lifted off the housing wall 22. In this way, transport of the paper 10 is not hindered. During the noisy printing phase. the coils 52 are energized in the manner already described, so that the repulsive force is canceled or even converted into an attractive force. In this way it is ensured that the strong pressure noises cannot penetrate through the opening 16 to the outside.

Fig. 4 shows an embodiment approximately according to Fig. 2; the same parts are provided with the same reference numerals. The mat 136 rests with its edge area 138 on the housing wall 140 due to its own weight. For lifting, the magnetically polarizable means 142, which are formed, for example, as electromagnets 146 by an iron core with a coil surrounding them, are polarized in the same direction as the polarization of the mat 136 by connection to the direct current source 148, so that a repulsive effect is produced. 4 shows the moment when the electromagnets 146 are not energized, so that the mat rests on the lower edge of the housing opening due to its own weight.

Die Fig. 5 zeigt den Zustand, in dem die Elektromagnete bestromt sind.5 shows another exemplary embodiment, in which, in a modification of the above-described examples, the mat 236 resting with its edge region 238 is lifted mechanically by spring means 250. During the printing process, the magnetically polarizable means 242 designed as electromagnets 246 are polarized in opposite directions to the polarization of the mat 236 by connection to the direct current source 248, so that an attractive effect is produced. 5 shows the state in which the electromagnets are energized.

The electromagnets 146 to 246 are supplied with current, for example, via a switch arranged in the connecting lines thereof, which switch is switched simultaneously with the printing unit in such a way that the paper feed opening is closed when the printing unit is running (FIGS. 4 and 5).
