Definitions
- the present invention relates generally to clamps of the type comprising, in one piece, on the one hand a flexible strap, which is provided on the surface with transverse locking notches, and on the other hand a closure, which has a passage suitable for engaging in a closed loop of the flexible strap, and which, in association with said passage, is fitted with an articulated retaining cleat or finger capable of cooperating in retaining with the transverse locking notches of said flexible strap, said retaining cleat comprising in practice for this purpose at least one tooth and, preferably, a plurality of teeth, allowing it to come into engagement with said transverse notches for blocking the flexible strap.
- tangential head in which, from its inlet outlet, upstream in the direction of engagement of the flexible strap, to its outlet outlet, downstream in said direction of engagement, the passage of the closure head extends substantially parallel to the flexible strap, so that, when it is engaged in this closure head, the flexible strap closes parallel to itself to the right of it.
- Such a clamping device is generally satisfactory, in particular when it is used under normal conditions of use: once its flexible strap is closed in a loop on the objects to be connected together, the cleat or retaining finger opposes normally effectively with any retrograde movement of this flexible strap likely to loosen the support.
- the flexible strap When the flexible strap is of moderate length, or when, of great length, it is closed on objects the assembly of which generally has a diameter suitable for such a length, this heating remains moderate, in particular because the relative movement of the strap flexible which gives birth to it is therefore necessarily short-lived.
- the flexible strap has a relatively large length, and when it is closed on objects generally forming an assembly of relatively reduced diameter compared to such a length.
- the heating of the upstream tooth of the retaining cleat is then much more accentuated, both because of the fact that the relative movement of the flexible strap which gives rise to it is then of more prolonged duration, than because of the fact that, to reduce the duration of this movement, the operator naturally tends to accelerate it.
- this upstream tooth can then be sufficient to cause, at least partially, the fusion
- the upstream tooth thus at least partially melted is by itself prevented subsequently from operating properly its retaining office with respect to the transverse notches for blocking the flexible strap, the molten material which results therefrom, entrained by the flexible strap, inevitably clogs at least partially the teeth of the retaining cleat located further downstream in the direction of engagement of this flexible strap, which also leads them to no longer be able to cooperate later so suitable with said transverse notches for blocking the flexible strap.
- the present invention particularly relates generally to a provision making it possible to avoid this drawback.
- a clamp of the kind comprising, in one piece, on the one hand a flexible strap, which is provided on the surface with transverse locking notches, and on the other hand a head of closure, which has a passage suitable for engaging in a closed loop of the flexible strap, and which, in association with said passage, is fitted with an articulated retaining cleat or finger capable of cooperating in retaining with the transverse locking notches of said flexible strap,
- this clamping collar being, according to a first aspect, characterized in that, upstream of the retaining cleat in the direction of engagement of the flexible strap, the closure head comprises, projecting from the same side as said retaining cleat, at least one boss, said below for convenience, spacing boss, adapted to temporarily urge the flexible strap in the direction opposite to said retaining cleat during said engagement thereof.
- the closure head comprising, in a manner known per se, longitudinally, in the direction of elongation of the flexible strap, two lateral flanges, and, transversely, at least two bars connecting the one to the other remotely one of the other, said side flanges, and the retaining cleat extending freely from one of said bars, two spacing bosses are provided, which are each respectively projecting from said side flanges, and, these bosses spacing being arranged in the corner areas formed between the lateral flanges and the bar from which extends the retaining cleat, each of them has, parallel to the direction of elongation of the flexible strap, an oblique face , which extends at an angle from the flange concerned to said bar.
- the spacer boss or bosses according to the invention subject the flexible strap, during the engagement of the latter, to a transverse force tending to spread this flexible strap of the retaining cleat, and thus making it possible to spare the teeth thereof, and more particularly its upstream tooth, so that, at the end of said engagement of the flexible strap, said teeth advantageously retain all their integrity, even when , due to its length, this engagement is relatively prolonged and / or relatively rapid.
- the spacing bosses according to the invention being, by the very nature of the synthetic material which constitutes them, retractable, for example by erosion or crushing, and preferably having overall dimensions sufficiently reduced to be effectively thus retractable, they are wholly or almost entirely eliminated at the end of the closing on itself of the flexible strap around the objects concerned.
- the retaining cleat, duly spared, can then assume its full retaining function, without the risk of untimely loosening of the flexible strap which it is responsible for maintaining.
- the spacing bosses according to the invention somehow play, with respect to the teeth of the retaining cleat, the role of a "fuse” sparing these teeth from overheating due to the relative movement of the strap flexible during its engagement and taking direct charge of this heating.
- bosses capable of urging the flexible strap in the direction of the corresponding retaining cleat, and on the other hand these bosses are intended to intervene in permanence, and, by their dimensions, they are effectively adapted for this purpose.
- retractable spacing bosses capable of temporarily urging the flexible strap in the direction opposite to the retaining cleat.
- the effectiveness of the retainer cleat may still be compromised.
- the present invention also generally relates to a provision making it possible to avoid this drawback.
- the retaining cleat has a protruding cord, which extends transversely at its free end, and which preferably extends also longitudinally on at least part of its lateral faces, in the median zone thereof.
- This cord which has no particular mechanical function within the clamping collar concerned, advantageously takes care of any manufacturing defects due to the fact that, as mentioned above, during the molding of the clamping collar, the retaining cleat is located at the end of the path of the corresponding material, and these defects are therefore spared the teeth of said retaining cleat.
- the tooling used for such a molding is advantageously found to work in better conditions, the movable core that this tooling comprises for the formation of the teeth of the retaining cleat no longer being in abutment on the core opposite than at right of the articulation of this retaining cleat to the bar from which it extends, and not over the entire periphery of said retaining cleat.
- the clamp according to the invention which, in the usual manner, can for example be produced by molding any suitable synthetic material, comprises in one piece, in a manner known per se, on the one hand a flexible strap 10, and, on the other hand, at one end thereof, a closing head 11.
- the length of the flexible strap 10 is voluntarily reduced, a non-negligible part of this flexible strap 10 having been eliminated between two transverse cutting lines.
- the flexible strap 10 On at least one of its faces, and, in practice, on only one of these in the embodiment shown, the flexible strap 10 has on the surface, with regular pitch, a series of transverse locking notches 13.
- that of the faces of the flexible strap 10 which is thus provided with transverse locking notches 13 is the inner face, that is to say the face which, in the use position, once the flexible strap 10 closed in a loop on the closure head 11, is turned towards the inside of the loop thus formed.
- these transverse locking notches 13 are established between two massive edge edges 15, slightly set back relative to these, FIG. 4.
- the closing head 11 has a passage 16 suitable for engaging in a closed loop of the flexible strap 10.
- the closure head 11 comprises, on the one hand, longitudinally in the direction of elongation of the flexible strap 10, two lateral flanges 17, substantially parallel to one another, according to a spacing substantially equal to the width of the flexible strap 10, and, on the other hand, transversely, at least two bars connecting to each other, at a distance from each other, said lateral flanges 17 .
- first bar 19 which, disposed at the downstream end of said passage 16 in the direction of engagement of the flexible strap 10, forms the root thereof
- a second bar 20 which, disposed at the upstream end of the passage 16 in said direction of engagement, extends at a distance from the bar 19 previous, parallel to this one.
- the bar 22 is longitudinally offset from the bars 19 and 20, lying between them.
- the bar 22 is closer to the bar 19 than to the bar 20, and is therefore, like the latter, disposed at the downstream end of the passage 16 in the direction of engagement of the flexible strap 10.
- the closing head 11 is equipped, in association with the passage 16, with a hinged cleat or pin 23 capable of cooperating in retaining with the transverse locking notches 13 of the flexible strap 10 .
- the inner face of the flexible strap 10 which is equipped with transverse locking notches 13, the retaining cleat 23 extends from one of the bars. of the closing head 11 which are an extension of this flexible strap 10, and, more precisely, that, 20, of these bars which is disposed at the upstream end of passage 16 in the direction of engagement of this flexible strap 10.
- the notch 26 is significantly deeper than the groove 27, but its bottom is substantially at the same level as that of this groove.
- the retaining cleat 23 For cooperation with the transverse locking notches 13 of the flexible strap 10, the retaining cleat 23 comprises transversely, on its face facing the passage 16, at least one tooth 28.
- the bar 22 of the closure head 11 extends laterally, in the direction of the bar 20 from which extends the retaining cleat 23, but generally parallel to the direction of elongation of the flexible strap 10, by two lateral benches 30 intended to provide support for the flexible strap 10 in line with said retaining cleat 23 when it engages in passage 16.
- These lateral benches form substantially returns for the flanges 17, and they are one with respect to the other at a spacing suitable for allowing the molding of the retainer cleat 23.
- the lateral flanges 17 of the closure head 11 Due to the particular location, specified above, of the bar 22, and due to the benches 30 extending laterally thereof, the lateral flanges 17 of the closure head 11 have generally a trapezoidal outline, the large base is an extension of the internal face, provided with transverse locking notches 13, of the flexible strap 10.
- these lateral flanges 17 are curved and striated, to facilitate gripping of the closing head 11.
- the closing head 11 upstream of the retaining cleat 23 in the direction of engagement of the flexible strap 10 in the passage 16, the closing head 11 comprises, projecting from the same side as said retaining cleat 23, at least one boss 32, hereinafter said for convenience, spacer boss, capable of temporarily urging the flexible strap 10 in the direction opposite to the retaining cleat 23 during said engagement of the latter in passage 16.
- two spacing bosses 32 are provided, which are each respectively projecting from the lateral flanges 17, on the inner face of these.
- these spacing bosses 32 are in practice arranged in the corner zones formed between the lateral flanges 17 and the bar 20 from which the retaining cleat 23 extends.
- each of them has an oblique face 33, which extends across the flange 17 concerned to said bar 20 e
- the oblique face 33 of each spacing bosses 32 are connected laterally to the flange 17 concerned and to the bar 20 by a facet 34 oblique with respect to the direction of elongation of the flexible strap 10.
- the spacer bosses 32 according to the invention are in practice arranged below the end of the benches 30 laterally extending the strip 22, both longitudinally, vis-à-vis the direction of engagement of the flexible strap 10 in passage 16, only transversely; their molding is thereby facilitated.
- the spacing bosses 32 thus implemented according to the invention are retractable, by erosion or crushing for example.
- the face of the side benches 30 facing the passage 16 extends slightly obliquely. in the direction of the upstream end of this passage 16, said face making an angle A with respect to the corresponding face of the bar 22 which these lateral benches 30 extend, and said lateral benches 30 thus having a thickness which, from the end downstream of passage 16 at the upstream end thereof, progressively decreasing, FIG. 6.
- the spacer bosses 32 according to the invention are subject to erosion on the part of the latter. or a crushing, leading in practice to their elimination, or their virtual elimination, at the end of said engagement of this flexible strap 10 in passage 16.
- the retaining cleat 23 can therefore, in a manner known per se, and as described in particular in the French patent application N ° 79 02333 mentioned above, assume safely and with certainty its holding and retaining function vis-à-vis the flexible strap 10.
- the radius R of the transverse contour of the bottom of said groove 27 is preferably greater than that R I of the transverse contour of the bottom of said notch 26.
- the retaining cleat 23 When retaining the flexible strap 10, the retaining cleat 23 thus preferably finds support on the bar 20 on the side of the notch 26 before also finding support on the side of the groove 27, which favors its application to said flexible strap 10.
- said retaining cleat preferably comprises, according to the invention, and as r P - presented, projecting, recessed from its teeth 28, a cord 35 which extends it transversely at its free end.
- this cord 35 also extends longitudinally over at least part of the lateral faces of the retaining cleat 23, in the median zone thereof.
- a single spacing boss could be provided, for example in the central region of the bar from which the retaining cleat extends, this boss possibly, but not necessarily, extending from one of the flanges side to side of it.
- the transverse notches for blocking the flexible strap are also advantageously spared when the latter is engaged in the passage of the closure head, said strap flexible then carrying by its massive edge edges on said spacing bosses.
- the field of application of the invention is not only limited to the case where it is the inner face of the flexible strap which is provided with transverse locking notches, but extends on the contrary as well to the case where it's the outside of it.
- the clamp concerned is a tangential head clamp, as more particularly described above, but also extends to the case where it is a question of a clamp with a perpendicular head, that is to say a clamp whose passage of the closure head extends substantially perpendicular to the flexible strap, so that, in line with this closure head, the flexible strap closes on itself by forming a right angle, as described for example in French patent application No. 81 17949 mentioned above.
