Claims (5)

1. A seat usable for equipping public service transport vehicles, characterized in that it is formed from two shells (1, 2) mounted one to the other, namely :
- a compact plastic material shell (2) forming the superstructure of the sitting portion and the seat back of the seat, this shell having at least, at the level of each of the two lateral edges of the seat back, a downwardly turned flange (20) having an inwardly turned rectilinear groove (25), and
- a metal shell (1) made for example from sheet steel, whose peripheral edge matches substantially the shape of the peripheral edging of the plastic material shell (2) and which has at the level of each of the lateral edges of the seat back at least one projecting element (14) for engagement in a corresponding groove of the plastic material shell (2), so that the assembly of the two shells (1, 2) may be effected by sliding, the structure of the two shells (1, 2) being such that in the assembled position they bear one against the other in the vertical median plane of symmetry of the seat.
2. Seat according to claim 1, cha'racterized in that it further comprises fixing means, for example by screwing, for connecting the two shells (1, 2) together at the level of the sitting portion.
3. Seat according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the metal shell (1) comprises means for fixing the seat to a support element (3).
4. Seat according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises at least one fitting (24) of the handle or hand-rail type especially fixed by fitting on to the upper edge of the plastic material shell (2).
5. Seat according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the peripheral edge of at least the metal sheell (1) has a concave shape (12) so that in the assembled position of the seat a tubular structure is obtained at the periphery increasing the mechanical strength of the seat.
