Description

The present invention relates to a lubrication method during the cold rolling of strips or sheets of aluminum or its alloys.

It is known that the cold rolling of aluminum strips was carried out for many years with lubrication with mineral or synthetic oil, additive or not, which simultaneously provides lubrication and cooling of the product and of the tools (cylinders); this oil is generally kerosene; however, due, on the one hand to the limited performances thus obtained (speed, rate of work hardening, etc.), and, on the other hand to the dangers of ignition and fire, this oil was replaced by an essentially aqueous medium consisting of an emulsion or an oil-in-water solution containing up to about 30% (by weight) of oil.

Thus the cold rolling process, described in patent GB-B 1 006 388, consists of a pre-lubrication of the product before the rolls and a separate lubrication at the level of the rolls and of the sheet or strip in A1 , using an aqueous oil emulsion (see for example p. 7, lines 1-27 or claim 1).

However, this method, leading to superior performance in complete safety, is limited by the appearance of surface defects which are manifested either in the form of longitudinal strips (parallel to the rolling direction), of different aspects called "zone of different mattness ”(zmd), either in the form of local faults (halos, discontinuous faults called“ flèche •), or in the form of “zones of different roughness (Z. rd).

The method according to the invention which is applied to the cold rolling of sheets or strips of A1 or its alloys and which makes it possible to eliminate such defects therefore consists of a pre-lubrication of the product before rolling using a whole oil mineral and / or synthetic, optionally additive and into a lubrication of the product and of the tools during rolling with the aid of water or an aqueous lubricant.

La prélubrification peut être réalisée à l'aide d'une huile minérale ou de synthèse contenant éventuellement certains additifs tels que acides gras, alcools gras, esters gras, amines ou amides grasses, produits organiques soufrés ou phosphoreux, produits mouillants ou anticorrosion, corps gras d'origine organique tels que le suif, etc...Pre-lubrication can be carried out using a mineral or synthetic oil optionally containing certain additives such as fatty acids, fatty alcohols, fatty esters, amines or fatty amides, organic sulfur or phosphorous products, wetting or anti-corrosion products, fatty substances of organic origin such as tallow, etc.

The pre-lubrication of the product before its cold rolling can result either from a specific operation, or be the result of a previous operation, the product obtained not being "degreased".

In the first case, this operation is carried out, discontinuously or continuously, on the cold rolling line using any known device, such as spray bars (with or without air), electrostatic device, wetted wiper. of oil, etc. The uniformity and regularity of the thickness of the layer of lubricant deposited, as well as its adhesion to the product, can be improved by known systems of brushes, felts, pinch rollers, etc. ..

The lubrication of the cold rolling operation is ensured by an emulsion or a solution of oil in water or even water alone, possibly additive.

Under these conditions, laminated strips, free from surface defects, can be obtained from strips in the annealed (O) or in the strain-hardened state (H) with reduction rates ranging from 50 to 90% in one single pass and at rolling speeds ranging from 500 to 1000 m / min, for thicknesses generally between 15 and 0.15 mm.

I).The following examples illustrate the result obtained with the method according to the invention compared to the prior art for the rolling of aluminum alloy strips (see Table I).

Figure imgb0001
Pre-lubrication was carried out by depositing a mixture of mineral oil and synthetic oil (50% - 50% by weight) at the rate of a few grams / m 2 by spraying on both sides of the strip and spinning by pinch rollers. The rolling itself was carried out on a quarto monocage rolling mill with lubrication by sprinkling using an aqueous emulsion at 10% by weight of oil:
Figure imgb0001

(Voir Tableau page 3)

Figure imgb0002
These tests show that this method makes it possible to substantially increase the productivity of the rolling mill while obtaining a very good surface condition of the rolled products.
