Description

The invention relates to a folding door, in particular for shower enclosures and the like, comprising at least two wings which are hinged to one another in the region of adjacent edges by means of hinge straps, the fastening tabs of which lie in one plane in the stretched state.

Such folding doors are e.g. from DE-A-No. 2952574 are known and are used as entrance or passage doors, in particular to shower cubicles, but also as folding walls in the area of bathtubs or the like. A problem with such folding doors is an at least splash-proof connection of the two wings when these are in the extended position, i.e. with the door closed. When using conventional hinge straps, gaps or joints remain between the edges of the adjacent wings, through which water, in particular splash water, can escape.

The object of the invention is to improve a folding door of the type described in the introduction so that it ensures better protection against splashing water.

This object is achieved in that the mutually assigned edges of the two wings overlap and that the wings are articulated via the hinge straps in such a way that one fastening tab on the associated wing on the inside in the overlap area and the other fastening tab on the other wing outside the overlap area and at a distance of Edge of the wing is attached.

With this folding door, there are no gaps or continuous joints between the adjacent wings when closed, because the edges of the wings overlap one another. Nevertheless, the two wings can be arranged in closely adjacent levels and the door, in particular to the inside of the shower cubicle, can be opened by folding, because the hinge straps described are used, which enable these functions.

It is easily possible to use wings of different widths for the folding door. Especially when using the edge of the outer wing of different widths for the folding door. In particular, if the edge of the respective outer wing of the closed door is to be arranged centrally to the folding door, the inner wing will be wider than the outer wing to form the overlap area.

It is advisable if the swivel axis of the hinge band is arranged on the face in front of the edge of one wing - for visual reasons and also to save space.

The wings are expediently clamped in the connection area of the hinge straps between a fastening tab and an associated counterplate, screws being provided which penetrate the holes in the wing and which are screwed into threaded holes in the respective opposite component. For this purpose, the fastening tabs or the counter plates can have bushes with threaded holes projecting into the bores. In this way it is possible to design at least one side of the wing so that screws or screw heads or other fastening elements are not visible. Otherwise, the screws can be countersunk Allen screws, the end face of which is essentially flush with the surface of the associated fastening tab or counterplate, so that no protruding fastening parts are present on this side either.

The hinge straps, the counter plates and the screws are expediently made of stainless steel so that corrosion is avoided.

One of the wings can be held on a wall with similar hinge bands, the hinge axis being located within the angle formed by the wall and wing and the fastening tabs being arranged on the sides of the wall and the wing facing one another. This wing, which can then be swiveled into the interior of the shower cubicle, can therefore be attached to a wall, which can be a wall made of toughened safety glass, acrylic glass or other high-strength and suitable materials, in such a way that a special edge surround or a special edge profile for this wall is superfluous. There are generally no fittings in the swivel range of the wing hinged to the wall, so that there is also no risk of this wing colliding with fittings. The other wing is pivoted against the opened wing anyway and does not touch the fittings either.

  • Fig. 2 eine Draufsicht auf ein Scharnierband,
  • Fig. 3 eine Draufsicht auf eine Gegenplatte,
An exemplary embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing is explained below; show it:
  • 1 is a horizontal section through two wings of a folding door for a shower cubicle in the connection area of a hinge band,
  • 2 is a plan view of a hinge band,
  • 3 is a plan view of a counter plate,
  • 4 shows a section in the direction IV-IV through the object according to FIG. 3,
  • 5 shows a horizontal section through a wing of the folding door hinged to a wall,
  • Fig. 6 partially a horizontal section through a folding door connected to a wall with two wings.

The folding door shown in the drawing serves as the end of shower cubicles or the like. The folding door has two wings 1,2 made of glass. One wing 1 is hinged to a glass side wall 3, the other wing 2 is pivotally connected to the wing 1. The wings 1, 2 can each pivot about vertical axes.

For the articulated connection of the two wings 1, 2, hinge straps with fastening tabs 4, 5 are used, which lie in the stretched state of the hinge strap in one plane, as can be seen from FIG. 1. The hinge axis 6 lies outside the plane formed by the two fastening tabs 4, 5.

As can be seen in particular from FIGS. 1 and 6, the two wings 1, 2 overlap in the region of the mutually assigned edges 7, 8.

The fastening tab 4 is on the inside of the wing 1, i.e. fastened on the side facing the wing 2 in the region of the edge 7 in such a way that the hinge axis 6 is essentially immediately in front of the edge 7.

In the area of the fastening tab 4, the wing 1 has bores 9 into which a bushing projects, with the interposition of a cushion 10, which is firmly connected to a counterplate 12. The counter plate 12 is consequently seated on the outside of the wing 1. From the inside of the wing 1, a countersunk Allen screw 14 is screwed into the tapped blind hole of the bushing 11 through an associated countersunk bore 13 in the fastening tab 4. So apart from the smooth counter plate 12, the attachment of the hinge to the wing 1 is not visible on the outside.

The other mounting bracket 5 is attached to the wing 2 outside the overlap area in the same way, but the bushing 11 is fastened to the mounting bracket itself with the threaded hole for receiving the screw 14 and the counterplate 12 arranged on the inside of the wing 2 is the countersunk hole for receiving the Has screw head.

From FIGS. 2 and 3 it can be seen that each fastening tab 4 or 5 and each associated counterplate 12 each have two bushes 11 or countersunk bores 13 which engage in corresponding bores in the glass wing.

Die Schwenkachse 6 des Scharnierbandes befindet sich in dem zwischen Flügel und Seitenwand 3 gebildeten Winkel.5 shows how the wing 1 is fastened to a side wall 3 delimiting the shower cabin using the hinge strap described above. It can be seen that the fastening tabs 4 and 5 are each fastened to the mutually facing sides of the wing 1 and the side wall 3 in the manner described. The pivot axis 6 of the hinge band is at the angle formed between the wing and the side wall 3.

Gleiche Bezugszeichen bezeichnen wiederum gleiche Teile.Fig. 6 shows the two wings 1, 2 of the folding door in front of a shower cubicle which is delimited by the side wall 3. The same reference symbols again designate the same parts.

In the position shown in Fig. 6, the folding door is closed. To open the wing 1 in the direction of arrow 15 inwards, i.e. pivoted towards the side wall 3. The wing 2 pivots in the opposite direction, namely in the direction of the arrow 16. The two wings 1, 2 are folded and lie one above the other against the side wall 3 without touching fittings which are arranged on the rear wall of the shower cubicle, not shown, or to collide with it.
