Definitions
- the invention relates to a headphone ear cushion with an existing plastic molded part that surrounds a headphone housing in a ring, is supported on this and has a U-shaped cross section that is open to the side facing away from the head, wherein the Shaped part consists of a thick-walled material and has a connection area of lower thickness that lies against the head.
- Ear pads consist of a thin-walled elastic plastic molded part, into which foam is welded as an acoustic and mechanical insulating material and which has a vent as pressure compensation when the ear pads are compressed.
- water can penetrate the ear pads through the vent and be sucked up by the foam.
- Water or aggressive solutions can no longer be removed from the welded-in foam, so that at low temperatures the upholstery hardens due to icing and loses its sound insulation due to a lack of adaptation to the shape of the head. Toxic vapors emanating from the foam absorbed material can also endanger health.
- the spring characteristic of this ear cushion is determined by the welded-in foam as well as the rigidity of the molded part and its shape.
- the molded part encloses the foam and thus represents a structurally stable U-profile, which first has to be kinked or lose its stability as a supporting profile, so that a flat spring characteristic curve is obtained, which is desirable in order to ensure a uniform adaptation of the ear pads to the head shape to achieve almost constant contact pressure.
- a high pressure is limited for reasons of comfort, so that there are zones on the ear pad that are only so lightly loaded due to the different head shapes that the force required to bend the profile is not achieved. This leads to inadequate mechanical adaptation to the shape of the head and to a low level of sound insulation, especially if the headphones are shifted slightly due to a quick turn of the head and if the head shape changes constantly due to jaw movements when speaking, since a certain force threshold has to be overcome before the cushion is acoustically activated seals and it also takes a certain time to bend the upholstery molding.
- a reduction in the force threshold, which is necessary to reduce the unwanted static properties of the upholstery, can only be achieved by a very thin plastic material of the molded part, which has correspondingly less mass and rigidity and a correspondingly reduced sound insulation.
- a certain minimum strength is required under certain operating conditions.
- a headphone ear cushion of the type mentioned at the outset is also known (US Pat. No. 1,498,727), which consists of a thick-walled material without filling with a foam, the U-shaped cross section having a connection area of lower thickness that lies against the head.
- this ear cushion the outer circumference is fastened to the headphone housing, while the inner circumference in the unloaded state is kept at a distance from the headphone housing by the inherent rigidity of the molded cushion part.
- the leg of the cushion molded part lying on the inner circumference can also be brought into contact with the headphone housing, such deflection of the cushion molded part due to a large number of constant circumferences on the outer circumference Vent holes arranged from each other is achieved, which result in a reduction in the rigidity of the cushion molding.
- the thinner connecting area between the two legs of the U-shaped cross-section cannot take on a supporting or sealing function, since the force that enables the inner leg to be pressed against the headphone housing must be exerted via this connecting area.
- An exact adaptation of the ear cushion to the shape of the head is not possible, and furthermore, the use of a large number of ventilation holes does not result in good sound insulation.
- the invention has for its object to provide a headphone ear cushion of the type mentioned, which adapts to the shape of the head with almost constant contact pressure and at the same time results in high sound insulation.
- both ends of the molded part have an angled shape and last at a distance from one another on the side of a plastic ring connected to the headphone housing and that the molded part consists of a Material with high elastic elongation is made and is semicircular in such a way that the contact surface on the head increases with increasing contact pressure.
- the molded part has a single vent hole, the diameter of which is selected such that it represents an acoustic resistance for low frequencies.
- the angled ends of the molded part can be formed by inwardly extending lugs which rest loosely and at a distance from each other on the side of the plastic ring facing the ear.
- the leg of the U-shaped cross section lying on the circumference of the ear cushion can also be extended towards the outside, the extension surrounding the plastic ring on the circumference and ending in a sealing lip which is angled relative to the extension and seals the headphone housing against the plastic ring.
- the profile of the ear cushion Due to the use of a material with high elastic stretch with a flat spring characteristic, the profile of the ear cushion has no static strength and there is no force threshold to be overcome, so that the ear cushion lies evenly on all sides.
- this material with high elastic expansion enables the use of a thick-walled upholstery molding, which due to its higher mass is soundproof and inherently stable and therefore does not require any shaping and acousto-mechanical damping foams.
- the high elastic stretch and the resulting low hardness of the material of the molded part results in comfortable wearing properties of the ear cushion and a tight seal of the ear cushion with the head.
- the U-profile By loosely resting the angled ends of the molded part on the plastic ring, the U-profile can be turned inside out for cleaning purposes, so that contaminants that have penetrated into the interior of the U-profile can be easily removed.
- the headphone ear pad shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 has an annular cushion molded part 1 with a cross-sectionally U-shaped profile that is open to the inside of the ring.
- This U-profile is designed with a lesser thickness towards the connecting area (5) of the two legs 2, 3, so that the zones which touch the head first and are less stressed by the cushion 1 due to different head shapes also exactly adapt to the head contour, since the molded part 1 is particularly adaptable at these points.
- the U-profile is semicircular, so that the contact surface increases with the contact pressure and the surface pressure remains as constant as possible. This may enable a higher contact pressure and, even with relatively light headphones, results in a higher sound insulation due to the increased mechanical coupling with the mass of the head, particularly at low frequencies, without the wearing comfort being significantly impaired.
- the open U-profile means that there is no force threshold to bend the cushion, so that the headphone cushion lies evenly on all sides.
- vent hole 4 in the molded part 1 the diameter of which is selected such that it represents an acoustic resistance for low frequencies and the natural vibration of the listener is damped.
- the ends of the legs 2, 3 of the U-profile are provided with lugs 2a, 3a bent at right angles, which rest loosely on a plastic ring 7.
- the leg 3 is provided with an extension section 10 beyond the associated extension 3a, which in turn also ends in a right-angled extension 8.
- This approach 8 forms a seal between the plastic ring 7 and a loudspeaker housing 9, which prevents air gaps occurring at this point from interrupting the acoustic sealing of the ear pads.
- the lugs 2a, 3a of the legs 2, 3 lie loosely on the plastic ring 7, the lug 2a and the leg 2 as well as the middle area can be turned inside out, which enables easy cleaning of the inner area of the U-profile.
- the headphone housing 9 can be connected to the plastic ring 7 in any way, such as by screws or the like indicated by the line 11.
