Abstract

The invention relates to a method for bonding grinding material, in particular, endless grinding belts or grinding belt segments onto a grinding element, preferably a grinding disk, or the like. Used endless grinding belts can be removed from the grinding elements only under great difficulties. However, such operations must be performed at regular intervals, as soon as the service life of the endless grinding belt has been exceeded. In particular, the removal of adhesive residues from the grinding element is a tedious task and the use of aggressive solvents is disadvantageous for the adhesive. In order to eliminate these disadvantages, the invention provides that a separating layer which is made of an unstable material with respect to solvents, is applied on at least one of the two engaging faces of an endless grinding belt and the grinding element before applying the adhesive layer. Preferably, the separating layer is mounted on the engagement face of the grinding element. As a material for the separating layer, an adhering agent, for example, a plastic resin is particularly suitable. The endless grinding belt can be bonded onto this adhering agent. Since the material used for the separating layer is easily dissolvable with a mild solvent, a used endless grinding belt can be easily removed from the grinding element, without any remaining adhesive residues.

Description

The invention relates to a method for gluing abrasive material, in particular abrasive belt or abrasive belt sections on an abrasive body, preferably a grinding wheel or the like.

In the furniture industry in particular, where both smooth and profiled surfaces are to be ground, grinding bodies are used whose surfaces which attack the workpiece to be machined, usually the peripheral surface, are covered or coated with sanding belt. The sanding belt is glued with the linen or paper side directly onto the assigned outer surface of the grinding body, e.g. B. by means of a contact adhesive.

Instead of an abrasive belt, sections from an abrasive belt can also be glued to the grinding wheel, in particular if the surface of the grinding wheel to be glued to it is profiled in order, for. B. to be able to edit a profiled wooden surface.

As soon as the service life of the abrasive material or abrasive belt is exhausted, the used abrasive belt must be removed from the abrasive body and replaced with a new abrasive belt.

A 5 161 specifies that a contact adhesive should be applied to the grinding wheel. The grinding belt is pressed into the bed of adhesive thus formed on the grinding wheel. The abrasive belt has a separating layer on its contact surface that comes into contact with the adhesive bed, which only has reduced adhesion with the adhesive. This should make it easier to remove the worn sanding belt.

However, the adhesive bed that has cured by then remains intact even after the worn abrasive belt has been removed from the outer circumference of an abrasive wheel. Especially in the case of profiled grinding bodies which have a contour machined into their outer circumference in order to be able to grind profiles, the adhesive layer must also be removed before a new grinding belt is applied.

The grinding wheels are z. B. immersed in a solvent which is to dissolve the adhesive layer. It is usually not possible to completely dissolve the adhesive layer. The adhesive layer is only dissolved. The adhesive residues still adhering to the grinding wheel can then only be removed by hard mechanical surface treatment. For this, z. B. vigorous rubbing with steel wool, also with the use of additional solvent necessary.

Frequently, the grinding wheels consist of elastic material, such as rubber or cork, and with such materials it can happen that in areas in which the adhesive is not completely dissolved, pieces are torn out of the contact surface of the grinding wheel, making the grinding wheel unusable.

The previously known method for removing used grinding belts from the grinding wheels also has the disadvantage that relatively aggressive solvents are required, the processing of which is unpleasant or even harmful to health. The material of the grinding wheel can also be attacked and destroyed by an aggressive solvent. Particularly in the case of abrasive bodies provided with profile contours, the predetermined constant profile cut into the abrasive body can be changed by the repeated, constant rubbing off of adhesive residues, so that the abrasive body also becomes unusable for machining profiles.

The invention has for its object to find a method for gluing abrasive material to a rotating grinding wheel, which enables easier removal of a used grinding belt from the grinding wheel.

This object has been achieved according to the invention in that before the adhesive layer is applied to at least one of the two mutual contact surfaces of the abrasive belt and the abrasive body, a separating layer made of vinyl resin or polyurethane resin or a mixture of vinyl resin and polyurethane resin which is resistant to alcohol, in particular alcohol as a solvent is applied to the contact surface of the grinding wheel.

The separating layer advantageously prevents direct contact of the adhesive with the contact surfaces to be bonded. To a used sanding belt z. B. to remove from a grinding wheel, it is therefore sufficient to dissolve the interface. The separating layer advantageously has the property that it can be easily dissolved in an alcohol, in particular alcohol, as a relatively mild solvent if the grinding wheel is immersed in the solvent with the grinding belt. It is therefore no longer necessary to use aggressive solvents to dissolve the adhesive layer. Adhesive residues can no longer stick to the contact surfaces as soon as the separating layer is dissolved.

Since the separating layer is applied to the contact surface of the grinding body, when this separating layer has been dissolved by the solvent, the grinding belt with the adhesive residues adhering to its contact surface can be removed together.

In a preferred embodiment it is provided that an easily releasable separating layer is applied to the contact surface of the grinding body and that a separating layer made of material which is relatively resistant to the same solvent is applied to the contact surface of the grinding belt.

Because a vinyl resin or polyurethane resin or a mixture of vinyl resin and polyurethane acts as an adhesive for the separating layer is used, the arrangement of adhesives of different solubility results in a connection between the grinding body and the grinding belt with high strength.

Of course, other adhesives can also be used. Only the properties of the adhesive that can be used as a separating layer are important. It must be highly flexible, temperature-resistant and have good adhesive properties in order to be able to make firm connections with the contact surfaces of both the grinding wheel and the grinding belt.

This also applies to the connection properties with the adhesive to be used, which is preferably a contact adhesive.

Furthermore, the adhesive that can be used as a release layer should dry relatively quickly after application. Another important property that the adhesive used as a release layer should fulfill is its ability to dissolve in a solvent which is not harmful to health, is not aggressive and is uncomplicated to process.

When using vinyl or polyurethane resins that meet the aforementioned properties, there is also the advantageous possibility of adjusting the solution properties in the solvent to be used by adding a hardener to the resin. This results in the advantage already described that an adhesive can be applied to the linen side of the abrasive belt or individual abrasive belt sections, while the release agent located on the contact surface of the abrasive body has no hardener additive and can therefore be easily dissolved in the solvent.

Possible adhesive properties can then be removed by rubbing them slightly off the grinding wheel without damaging it. The use of different adhesives, one that is easy to remove and one that is more difficult to remove, results in a relatively high adhesive strength of the connection of the abrasive belt to the abrasive body.

Of course, a material for the separating layer according to the invention that dissolves in water would also be possible. However, water has the disadvantage that metallic parts of the grinding wheel can be attacked by corrosion. This is not the case with alcohol.

The measures according to the invention have the advantage that they can be used with all abrasive bodies made of cork, rubber, metal, wood or the like. Materials that are provided with bonded abrasive material. In order to be able to replace the abrasive material after a longer service life, it is no longer necessary to loosen the adhesive. After the separation layer has been dissolved, the grinding belt can easily be detached from the grinding body. Laborious and time-consuming preparation of the grinding wheel before a new grinding belt can be glued on is not necessary, so that the grinding wheel to be refurbished can be used again in the shortest possible time, e.g. B. can be brought in a grinding machine.
