Definitions
- the invention relates to a cable clamp terminal for connecting conductive cables to an electrical appliance having a clamp-shaped terminal body confining two superimposed housings, each arranged to receive the end of a cable and two screws of tightening capable of being screwed into a threaded orifice of said body extending transversely to said housings, one intermediate of the screws tightening the cable inserted in the lower housing between the bottom of the bracket and the intermediate screw and the other upper tightening the cable inserted in the upper housing between the intermediate screw and the upper screw.
- the second cable is subsequently introduced and the upper screw wedges the cable between the two screws. After mounting, the intermediate screw is no longer accessible and it is impossible to subsequently check that the cables are properly tightened or to carry out additional tightening to compensate for some compaction of the cable strands.
- the object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback and to allow the production of a terminal of reduced width for the connection of two superimposed conducting cables allowing subsequent tightening after packing of the cables.
- the terminal according to the present invention is characterized in that the tapping of the intermediate screw has a longitudinal clearance allowing limited axial sliding of the intermediate screw immobilized in rotation.
- the internal thread advantageously extends over the entire length of the internal orifice, the corresponding axial clearance of the two screws having no effect on the upper screw.
- the thread is advantageously square threaded which further reduces the lateral forces exerted on the bracket forming the body of the terminal.
- a body 10 of a connection terminal of generally parallelepiped shape has a recess 11 of elongated shape passing right through the body 10.
- the width of the recess 11 is slightly greater than the section of cables 18, 20 to be connected, the height or length of the recess 11 being sufficient for the insertion of the ends of two superimposed cables 18, 20.
- the bottom 12 of the body 10 is joined and fixed to the upper face of a track 14 of an electrical appliance by a fixing bolt 16.
- the recess 11 extends parallel to the track 14 and a tapped hole 22, formed in the body 10 , extends perpendicular to the recess 11 along the longitudinal axis of the body identified in Figure 1 by the line II-II.
- the tapped hole 22 opens on the upper face 24 of the body 10 and is extended at the base by an orifice of reduced section 23 for passage of the bolt 16.
- the tapped hole 22 receives two clamping screws, an intermediate screw 26 and an upper screw 28.
- the intermediate screw subdivides the housing formed by the recess 11 into a lower housing receiving the end of the cable 20 and an upper housing receiving the end of the cable 18.
- the thread of the hole 22 and of the screws 26, 28 is at square thread, the height h of the thread being notably less than half the pitch p, so as to obtain a significant clearance allowing axial sliding of the screws 26, 28 without rotation of the latter.
- the screws 26, 28 have on their upper face a hexagonal recess 30 for insertion of a tightening tool and on their lower face a pivot 32 for penetration between the strands 34 of the cables 18, 20.
Description
The invention relates to a cable clamp terminal for connecting conductive cables to an electrical appliance having a clamp-shaped terminal body confining two superimposed housings, each arranged to receive the end of a cable and two screws of tightening capable of being screwed into a threaded orifice of said body extending transversely to said housings, one intermediate of the screws tightening the cable inserted in the lower housing between the bottom of the bracket and the intermediate screw and the other upper tightening the cable inserted in the upper housing between the intermediate screw and the upper screw.
For certain applications, it is necessary to connect to each terminal of an electrical appliance, in particular a high-power molded case circuit breaker, two conductive cables or wires. A connector has already been proposed in the form of a conductive block fixed on the connection area of the circuit breaker and having two juxtaposed holes intended to receive connection cables. The width of this terminal is too large for modern molded case circuit breakers, and to remedy this drawback, an overlapping arrangement of the two connection cables has been provided. In this case, it is necessary to provide an intermediate clamping screw, inserted between the two cables, to ensure a good electrical connection between the cables and the terminal. The terminal being fixed to the circuit breaker range, the lower cable is first introduced and the intermediate screw wedging this cable tightened against the bottom of the terminal. The second cable is subsequently introduced and the upper screw wedges the cable between the two screws. After mounting, the intermediate screw is no longer accessible and it is impossible to subsequently check that the cables are properly tightened or to carry out additional tightening to compensate for some compaction of the cable strands.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback and to allow the production of a terminal of reduced width for the connection of two superimposed conducting cables allowing subsequent tightening after packing of the cables.
The terminal according to the present invention is characterized in that the tapping of the intermediate screw has a longitudinal clearance allowing limited axial sliding of the intermediate screw immobilized in rotation.
The internal thread advantageously extends over the entire length of the internal orifice, the corresponding axial clearance of the two screws having no effect on the upper screw. The thread is advantageously square threaded which further reduces the lateral forces exerted on the bracket forming the body of the terminal.
- la figure 1 est une vue en élévation, partiellement arrachée, d'une borne selon l'invention, fixée sur une plage d'un appareil électrique ;
- la figure 2 est une coupe partielle suivant la ligne II-II de la figure 1, un seul câble et la vis de serrage associée étant mis en place ;
- Figure 1 is an elevational view, partially broken away, of a terminal according to the invention, attached to a range of an electrical device;
- Figure 2 is a partial section along the line II-II of Figure 1, a single cable and the associated clamping screw being put in place;
- Figures 3 and 4 are sections along line II-II, showing the terminal respectively after installation of the two cables and after tightening.
- The
body 10 is fixed to thepad 14 by thebolt 16, the screw of which is threaded through theorifice 22 passes throughholes 23 made in the bottom of thebody 10 and in thepad 14. The end of the lower cable is subsequently inserted 20 in therecess 11 and theintermediate screw 26 is screwed into the threadedhole 22 until thestrands 34 of thecable 20 are clamped with crushing (see FIG. 2). Theupper cable 18 is inserted into therecess 11 above theintermediate screw 26 and tightened by theupper screw 28 screwed into the threadedhole 22. With reference to FIG. 3, it can be seen that thecable 18 is clamped between the 26, 28, and that under the tightening effect thescrews screw 26 has moved axially, creating a relatively small clearance J 1 at the thread. After a certain operating time, during which the apparatus has undergone thermal cycles and a certain compaction of the cable strands, a tightening is carried out by turning theupper screw 28. The tightening effect is transmitted to the screw. intermediate 26, which undergoes an additional sliding resulting in a clearance J 2 of a value greater than the clearance J 1 . It is easy to understand that the rotation of thescrew 28 ensures a tightening of the two 18, 20 thanks to the possibility of axial sliding of the intermediate screw 26 (FIG. 4).cables - The
body 10 is advantageously made of a molded conductive material and theclearance thread 22 advantageously extends over the entire height of the hole. It is clear that theupper screw 28 does not require mounting with play, and that it would not depart from the scope of the invention to produce a terminal in which only theintermediate screw 26 has a possibility of axial sliding. The invention also applies to terminals capable of receiving a greater number of superimposed conductors.
