The invention is applicable more particularly to alarm watches.

Description

The subject of the present invention is a timepiece according to the preamble of claim 1.

Patent US-A-3580504 describes a timepiece in which an arm carrying a permanent magnet is normally driven in rotation by a graduated time display disc itself driven by a clockwork movement. In its rotational movement, the magnet passes near two contact elements made of soft magnetic material, which are applied against each other by the magnetic field of this magnet. The trigger time is given by the position of the arm on the disc, and it can be modified by moving this arm relative to this disc.

Such an arrangement has the disadvantage that the arm carrying the magnet must be fixed to the disc both sufficiently rigidly to be driven in rotation by the disc and sufficiently free to be able to rotate relative to this disc, which is not very easy to achieve. In addition, moving the arm relative to the disc to change the trigger time may cause the disc, which would cause an error in the time displayed by it. Finally, if the current time is displayed by hands moving in front of a fixed dial, it is not possible to indicate the trigger time in relation to these hands. This indication must be made in relation to this fixed dial.

Swiss patent CH-A-526,154 describes an alarm watch having a trigger mechanism comprising a wheel of insulating material whose angular position can be adjusted, and a metal arm produced in one piece with the barrel of the hour wheel. A spring biases the insulating wheel against a projection located at the end of said metal arm. The triggering of the alarm occurs by the contacting of the contact element which constitutes said projection with a second contact element carried by the insulating wheel.

One of the drawbacks of this known mechanism lies in the fact that the metal arm is subjected during its rotation, due to the action of the return spring, to a significant friction consuming energy. However, in the case of electronic watches, where the energy source consists of an electric battery, of limited duration, any cause of additional consumption must obviously be avoided.

The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks.

This object is achieved by the means claimed in claim 1.

The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the subject of the invention.
  • Figure 1 is an axial section of a part of an electronic alarm watch in which only the elements necessary for understanding the invention have been shown.
  • FIG. 2 is a detailed plan view, on an enlarged scale, from plane II-II of FIG. 1, and
  • Figure 3 is a vertical section along line III-III of Figure 2.

The watch shown is of the electromechanical type, the time indicators being constituted by ordinary hour 1 and minute 2 hands, carried, first, by the barrel 3a of the hour barrel wheel, designated by 3 and, the second by the roadway, designated by 4. The motor, electric mechanism has not been shown, being known per se. It may be constituted by a stepping motor controlled by a quartz resonator via an adequate division chain. Energy will be supplied by an electric battery.

The hour-barrel wheel 3 is engaged with a wake-up wheel 5, made of steel, interposed, with play along the axis of rotation, between a toothed wheel 6, of electrically insulating material, rotatably mounted in the movement plate, denoted by 7, and a wheel 8, coaxial with said insulating wheel 6. According to the example shown in FIG. 1, the gear ratio between the hour barrel wheel 3 and the alarm wheel 5 is 1: 1 ; however, this ratio can advantageously be 1: 2 so that the alarm wheel makes one revolution per twenty-four hours in the case of a twelve-hour watch, whose hour wheel makes two revolutions per day.

The wheel 5 is earthed in particular by means of the wheel 3 with which it remains in contact.

Elles sont maintenues assemblées par un rivetage 6c de l'extrémité du tourillon 6a.The insulating wheel 6 carries an electrically conductive permanent magnet 9, in the form of a bar, the axis of which is parallel to that of said wheel 6, and the distance from the center of which corresponds to the distance from the center of a boss 5a, directed towards the insulating wheel 6, which has the wheel 5. The latter is freely engaged on a barrel 8a which has the wheel 8, a barrel crossed by a pin 6a of the wheel 6. The latter also has a lug 6b engaged in a notch in the barrel 8a so that the wheels 6 and 8 are angularly integral. They are held together by riveting 6c from the end of the pin 6a.

The wheel 6 carries, on its face opposite to that facing the wheel 5, a thin metal washer 10, in the form of a crown which is fixed to said wheel 6 by means of two diametrically opposed studs 6d (FIGS. 2 and 3). This ring 10 has a radial arm 10a, directed inward. This arm 10a rests elastically on the end of a pin 11, which is coaxial with the wheel 6, and which is carried by a printed circuit substrate 12 of the watch. This pin 11 is in electrical contact with one of the conductive tracks, designated by 13, of said circuit substrate 12. The elastic arm 10a of the crown 10, forming a spring, urges the assembly formed by the wheel 6 and the wheel 8 against a bridge 14 of the movement frame of the watch. The wheel 8 is furnished with a crown 15 of anti-friction plastic material by means of which it bears on the bridge 14. The latter therefore undergoes a slight elastic deformation, it therefore constitutes a spring urging the unit mechanically unitary formed by the wheels 6 and 8 against the plate 7.

The wheel 6 is engaged with a control pinion 16, which can be actuated manually using a control mechanism 100 known per se, which makes it possible to manually modify its angular position. As for the wheel 8, integral with the wheel 6, it is engaged with an additional barrel wheel 17. The latter is engaged on the barrel 3a of the barrel wheel 3, and it comprises a barrel 17a on which is mounted a so-called wake-up needle 18.

The insulating wheel 6 has, on its face facing the alarm wheel 5, an annular rib 6th coaxial with said wheel 6, and the distance from the center of which is greater than that of the magnet 9. An annular clearance 19 is provided in said face of the wheel 6 on the inside of the rib 6e, and it is suitably dimensioned so that the boss 5a of the wheel 5 does not come into contact with the wheel 6, for all the relative angular positions of the wheels 5 and 6 for which the boss 5a is not located opposite the magnet 9. This clearance is connected by two inclined planes with the flat end face 9a which the magnet 9 presents on the side directed towards the wheel 5. This end face 9a is set back relative to the free edge of the rib 6e, so that the wheel 5 does not come into contact with the magnet 9 when the latter is not opposite the boss 5a. However, the shrinkage of the end face 9a relative to the free edge of the rib 6e is low enough for the boss 5a to come into contact with said face 9a when these two elements 5a, 9a are opposite one of the 'other.

The operation of the watch described and shown is as follows:
  • The time at which the alarm must go off is determined by the user who turns the wheel 16, thus adjusting the angular position of the insulating wheel 6. This angular position, and therefore the time of triggering, can be controlled using the hand 18 which, driven by the wheel 8, moves opposite the hour turn of the dial, not shown, of the watch.

Once per revolution of the wheel 5, the boss 5a of the latter comes to face the permanent magnet 9 which attracts it, thus producing a slight axial displacement of the wheel 5, accompanied by a slight tilting and a slight angular displacement within the limits authorized by the set of gears between the latter and the hour wheel 3. The contact between the boss 5a and the magnet 9 puts the latter to ground, since the wheel 5 is itself grounded, which, by means of the crown 10 and the pin 11, earths the conductive track 13. An electrical circuit is thus closed which controls the activation of the bell of waking up.

Thanks to this arrangement, the alarm trigger mechanism does not constitute any overload for the movement, consuming almost no energy. In addition, the contact closes instantly, ensuring a frank start of the striking mechanism. In addition, this mechanism undergoes practically no wear.
