Definitions
- the invention relates to a vacuum casting method according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a problem with such vacuum-bonded molds is that of obtaining a clean and smooth surface on the casting to be made.
- sand as fine-grained as possible is used in the prior art, so that penetration of the melt into it is thereby already prevented.
- the sand cannot be chosen to be fine-grained, since it must be possible to maintain a negative pressure in it.
- suction pipes are inserted into the molding sand, which penetrate them as evenly as possible.
- the surface area of the castings achieved in this way is not yet satisfactory.
- the molding sand gas-forming substances for. B. carbon, which forms a gas film between the mold wall and metal, which prevents penetration of the liquid metal into the molding sand, cannot be used in vacuum-bound casting molds.
- the reason for this is that the gas film is sucked off immediately by the negative pressure prevailing in the molding sand and therefore cannot take effect.
- the gasifying substances form cavities through which the liquid metal is increasingly sucked into the molding sand.
- DD-B-106 789 describes a molding sand for the production of casting molds, in particular for the casting of metals.
- This molding sand contains the slag produced in the production of ferroalloys after comminution to the grain sizes customary for molding materials and subsequent electromagnetic separation of ferroalloy inclusions.
- This molding material should no longer have the disadvantages of quartz sand, which consist in the fact that it has unfavorable chemical-physical properties, uneven thermal expansion, the tendency to mineralize and low resistance to penetration and the formation of flakes.
- the proposed molding material is characterized in that it does not undergo any thermal or chemical reaction with the material to be cast.
- a size is applied to the plastic film in order to produce a high surface quality, which is essentially formed from a quartz, olivine or zircon dust.
- the size is applied in the liquid state on the plastic film and then dried. This forms a fine-pored wall after drying, which prevents the liquid metal from penetrating into the molding sand. In this way, a clean and smooth surface of the casting is achieved.
- applying the size and then drying it means an additional time-consuming operation.
- a fine-grained quartz sand is also required when using size, which, in addition to its costs, poses a risk of silicosis due to the inevitable development of dust.
- the invention has for its object to propose a vacuum casting process with or with which castings are obtained with a clean and smooth surface without the need to apply size to the plastic film and in which a substantially coarse-grained molding sand can still be used.
- molding sands also has the advantage that they are far more permeable to air and thus the vacuum in the casting mold is spread much more uniformly. This also means that suction surfaces are sufficient, which are only arranged on the inner walls of the molding boxes, so that the suction pipes laid in the molding sand can be dispensed with.
- the cost savings achieved in this way in the production of the molding boxes are considerable, and they are also suitable for any shape of the castings settable, since there are no suction lines in the molding sand, which are annoying for some casting molds.
- slag sand is used for the molding sand, which is obtained as a waste product in the furnace systems of the foundries.
- Such slag is advantageously processed into slag sand, which is obtained when the metal to be cast is melted. This measure precludes any possible chemical contamination from the molding sand.
- the molding box 1 is shown in side and top views.
- the molding box 1 consists of the same upper and lower box 3, 4, has a peripheral frame 2 and is open at its top and bottom.
- the molding box 1 is provided with a circumferential channel 5, which has 6 connecting pieces on its one end face for the connection of vacuum lines, which are connected to a vacuum shaft (not shown).
- a suction pipe 9 is connected to the channel 5 and has a multiplicity of bores through which the interior of the molding box can be evacuated.
- the casting mold 11 is enclosed by a plastic film 12, the pouring funnel 13 being formed in one piece with the casting mold.
- the side of the molding box 1 which is open upwards and downwards is covered by a further film 15, so that when the molding sand 16 is evacuated, the film 12 and the film 15 are pressed against the molding sand by the external overpressure. This makes it possible to use loose, binder-free molding sand.
- the molding sand 16 consists of a material whose melting point is equal to or lower than the casting temperature of the material to be poured into the casting mold 11. This measure ensures that the molding sand sinters or melts at a shallow depth of about 0.5 mm at the contact surface with the liquid material, thus forming a solid or viscous, plastic and non-porous film, which is the cause of is a smooth and clean surface of the casting.
- the application of size is not necessary.
- the melting temperature of the molding sand should be approx. 50 to 100 ° C below the casting temperature of the metal to be cast.
- the molding sand melts in the contact area with the liquid metal and forms a dense, plastic, tough and non-porous film or a sintered layer, the molding sand can be chosen to be coarse-grained overall, since there is no risk of the melt penetrating into the molding sand.
- Slag sand is preferably chosen as the molding sand, which is obtained when the relevant metal to be cast is melted. To set the desired melting point of the molding sand, this flux and / or a sintered material can be added.
- the filter surfaces for introducing the vacuum into the molding sand can be arranged at a much greater distance from the casting.
- the previously required filter tubes in the vicinity of the casting have been shown to be unnecessary, which leads to a substantial reduction in the costs of the molding boxes.
