Definitions
- the invention relates to a centrifugal pump with removable diffuser for the circulation of a fluid such as the cooling fluid of a nuclear reactor.
- the cooling fluid of the fuel assemblies constituting the reactor core is circulated in the cooling circuit or primary circuit by motor-pump groups comprising a helico-centrifugal pump and a drive motor for this pump.
- Such a centrifugal pump comprises a volute constituted by an enclosure generally welded to the pipes of the primary circuit, in which openings are made for the inlet and the outlet of the coolant in the pump.
- a removable suction duct extends the inlet opening inside the volute and a rotor mounted on a shaft connected to the drive motor is arranged inside the volute, in extension of the duct. suction for the circulation of the coolant.
- This rotor is constituted by a paddle wheel which is itself surrounded by a fixed diffuser carrying fins for guiding the fluid and secured to one of its ends of the suction duct.
- This diffuser is generally rigidly and permanently connected to the volute either directly or only via the suction duct.
- An opening is provided in the volute to allow the passage of the rotor at the time of assembly of the pump, this opening then being closed by a sealed passage allowing the passage of the rotor shaft between the interior of the volute and the motor d drive fixed on the volute above the opening of the rotor.
- the diffuser arranged around the rotor makes it possible to guide the cooling fluid set in motion by the impeller of the rotor, inside the volute before its exit by the exit opening.
- Such pumps which have a very high flow rate, greater than 20,000 m 3 / hour, and which carry out the circulation of a fluid at high pressure and at high temperature are subjected to particularly severe conditions of use.
- the motor-pump unit must therefore be designed as a removable assembly allowing the examination of the interior surface of the volute and of the connection welds.
- the diameter of the upper axial opening of the volute above which the pump drive motor is arranged must be as small as possible in order to limit the forces exerted in operation, for example on the flanges of assembly between the pump and the motor.
- pumps or other rotary machines comprising a diffuser made up of several separate parts, which in particular makes it possible to facilitate the manufacture of the diffuser or the mounting of the pump (CH-A 156 537, FR-A2145350 and GB-A 1016 097).
- such diffusers are not designed so as to allow them to be dismantled and replaced by simple operations, for the maintenance and control of the pump after a certain period of operation.
- the object of the invention is therefore to propose a centrifugal pump with removable diffuser of the type as described in the aforementioned General Nuclear Review for the circulation of a fluid, comprising a volute constituted by an enclosure having openings for the inlet and outlet of the fluid, a removable suction duct fixed to the volute at the level of the fluid inlet opening and directed towards the inside thereof, a rotor disposed inside the volute fixed on a shaft passing through an opening provided in the wall of the volute and allowing the passage of the rotor, for connection to a drive motor as well as an annular diffuser having as axis of symmetry of revolution the axis of rotation of the rotor, arranged around the rotor inside the volute and fixed on the suction duct at one of its ends, the operations of examination and maintenance of the internal organs of the pump, in particular the surface internal volute and diffuse eur, which can be carried out using suitable control devices introduced through the rotor passage opening. r.
- the diffuser comprises at least three separable and connectable parts along connection surfaces passing through the entire body of the diffuser between its internal face disposed towards the rotor and its external face directed towards the internal surface of the volute and between its end of connection with the suction duct provided with removable connection means and its opposite end, each of these parts of the diffuser being machined according to a portion of annular groove with trapezoidal section at its end opposite the end of connection with the suction duct and comprising a projection forming a ring portion, while the volute comprises an annular groove for the engagement of the annular projections of each of the parts of the diffuser and that a centering piece comprising an annular part with trapezoidal section is detachably fixed on the volute for its engagement in the annular groove with trapezoidal section constituted by the groove portions of the parts of the diffuser, when they are juxtaposed.
- Preferred embodiments of the invention appear in the dependent claims.
- FIGS. 1 and 2 show a pump such as those currently used on the primary circuits of pressurized water nuclear reactors comprising an engine assembly 1 and a pump assembly 2.
- the engine assembly 1 is connected to the volute 3 of the pump via a support 4 connected by screws to the upper part of the volute 3 at the level of the upper axial opening 5 of this volute.
- the rotor 6 of the pump is mounted on a shaft 7 connected to the output shaft 8 of the motor 1.
- the opening 5 allows the passage of the rotor 6 constituted by a paddle wheel during assembly of the pump and the sealed passage of the shaft 7 via seals and bearings 9, when the assembly of the pump is completed. as shown in FIG. 1, the opening 5 being closed by a closing piece 10.
- a thermal barrier 11 makes it possible to limit the heat transfer between the volute and the upper part of the pump (bearing, seals, etc.).
- a flywheel 12 is mounted integral with the upper part of the motor shaft in the upper part of this motor.
- the volute 3 is pierced with an inlet opening 14 and an outlet opening constituting a discharge conduit 15 for pressurized water.
- the opening 14 is extended by a suction duct 16 in the internal part of the volute3.
- the duct 16 is fixed to the volute 3 and can be dismantled and extracted through the opening 5.
- the diffuser 18 is connected to the outlet of the suction duct 16 inside the volute. This fixed annular diffuser completely surrounds the rotor 6 and guides the water, the path of which in the pump is shown by arrows.
- Fixing lugs 19 connect the pump to its suspension system.
- FIG. 3 a part of a centrifugal pump according to the invention is seen comprising a volute 23 having an upper axial opening 25 through which the rotor 26 constituted by a paddle wheel 27 can be introduced.
- the diffuser 21 of this pump fixed at its lower part on the suction duct 22 by means of screws 30 consists of six parts 21a, 21b, 21c , 21d, 21e, 21f separated by cutouts 31 a, 31b, 31c, 31d, 31e, 31f.
- the cuts 31 are made along curved surfaces passing through the entire annular body of the diffuser 21 between its internal face 32 directed towards the rotor 26 and its external face 33 directed towards the internal surface of the volute 23. These cuts 31 are on the other hand produced over the entire height of the diffuser from its junction with the suction duct 22 to its upper part at the level of the upper axial opening of the volute 25.
- the cuts 31 are on the other hand each made between two successive blades 35 of the diffuser. r.
- part 21 d Some of the parts of the diffuser, such as part 21 d are made so that the opening in the internal surface 32 of the diffuser resulting from their disassembly is of a width greater than the face of the part 21d constituting a portion of the surface 33 of the diffuser.

- the groove 36 and the part 41 of the centering piece 40 have corresponding shapes as can be seen in FIG. 3.
- the manufacture of the diffuser can be carried out by one-piece molding of the assembly of this diffuser 21 and then by cutting and machining of this assembly so as to obtain the different sections 21a to 21f.
- This diffuser could also be obtained by separate manufacture of the various sections 21a to 21f.
- the opening 25 is completely cleared and the rotor 26 and the suction duct 22 have not yet been introduced into the volute.
- the centering piece 40 is not yet in position on the upper part of this volute.
- the different sections of the diffuser are introduced inside the volute 23 through the opening 25 in an orientation allowing their passage through this opening 25.
- the different groove portions 36 machined on the upper faces of the different parts of the diffuser 21 then constitute a continuous annular groove into which the part 41 of the centering piece 40 can be introduced in order to set up and center the diffuser.
- Screws 44 are then put in place in the tapped holes 45 in order to fix the part 40 and the final centering of the diffuser 21 in the volute.
- the suction duct 22 is introduced into the central opening and it is fixed to the volute.
- the final fixing of the diffuser is then carried out in the volute by fitting and tightening the screws 30 connecting the lower part of the diffuser 21 to the suction duct 22.
- the disassembly of the diffuser can obviously be carried out by reverse operations.
- FIG. 5 shows an alternative embodiment of the attachment between the lower part of the diffuser 21 and the upper part of the suction duct 22.
- the lower part 48 of the diffuser 21 is constituted by a cylindrical extension which covers the upper part of the suction duct 22. It is then sufficient to block rotation in between the parts 21 and 22.
- the main advantages of the device according to the invention are to allow disassembly of the diffuser of the pump for the examination of this diffuser and of the internal surface of the volute and of the welds, even if the upper axial opening of the pump is of small diameter.
- the proposed design of the different portions of the diffuser facilitates its installation inside the volute. The final positioning of these parts is carried out automatically when the centering part is put in place, which avoids assembly errors.
- the removable attachment mode of the lower part of the diffuser on the suction duct can be of any type and the cutting of the diffuser into portions allowing its disassembly is not limited to the embodiment which has been described.
- the invention applies to any centrifugal pump whether these pumps are with radial diffuser or with axial diffuser.
- the field of use of these pumps can obviously be entirely different from the circulation of the cooling fluid of a nuclear reactor.
