Definitions
- the invention relates to a permanent magnet for a bistable element which can be actuated by magnetic means and to these elements and data display units provided with at least one such element.
- the visualization of the data is obtained by means of a rotor formed by a cylindrical body (patent US-A-2,740,955), spherical (patent US-A-3,036,300) or even flat ( US-A-1,191,023) of which one of the two surfaces, which are for each form of body mentioned above, respectively, the halves of the lateral face, the hemispherical surfaces or the opposite faces, is a carrier, at the less locally, with an indication different from that given by the other surface.
- a rotor formed by a cylindrical body (patent US-A-2,740,955), spherical (patent US-A-3,036,300) or even flat ( US-A-1,191,023) of which one of the two surfaces, which are for each form of body mentioned above, respectively, the halves of the lateral face, the hemispherical surfaces or the opposite faces, is a carrier, at the less locally, with an indication different from that given by the other surface.
- these different indications will be conventional color ranges such as white or yellow on the one hand and black on the other hand.
- this body therefore displays an indication which either is self-sufficient (US Patents 2,415,452 and 2,740,955) or participates in combination with other elements in the construction of a more complex indication, such as for example the restitution of characters (patents US-A-1,191,023, 1,799,731 and 3,036,300).
- each bistable element rotor As announced above, to correctly orient each bistable element rotor, it can be actuated in rotation of one hundred and eighty degrees around its axis, by magnetic means.
- the power supply of the electromagnet can immediately be interrupted because even if they did not offer remanent magnetization, being made of magnetic material, this alone the bars carrying the NORTH SOUTH poles of the electromagnet would attract still the poles of the permanent magnet and the rotor would therefore remain stabilized in the position imposed by the last command.
- bistable element Since the operation of such a bistable element is therefore simple in principle.
- the action of these mechanical stops is combined with the action of a magnetic field created by a magnet.
- additional permanent and which is carried by the stator (US-A-2,740,955 and 3,518,661) and / or the action resulting from a characteristic positioning of the permanent magnet of the rotor, which permanent magnet, when the rotor is stabilized, can indeed have the axis of its NORTH and SOUTH poles which, compared to that of the poles of the electromagnet is offset parallel (US-A-2,740,955 or GB-A-1,080,458 patents ) or is tilted (US-A-3,624,941 patent).
- Another object of the present invention is such a bistable element whose rotations can be exactly one hundred and eighty degrees, which rotations can also occur always in the same direction.
- Another object of the invention is a very stable element at rest even in the event of a gust of wind.
- the subject of the invention is a permanent magnet for a bistable element of the type mentioned above, characterized in that, in the plane of rotation of the permanent magnet, each of its polar zones has a contour which delimits a first fraction of the zone located on one side of the line passing through the poles of the magnet and a second fraction located on the other side of this line, the contour of the first fraction being further from the axis of the rotor than the contour of the second fraction.
- the profile of the permanent magnet is the same as that of the rotor according to document US-A-3,638,550.
- bistable elements and the data display units comprising at least one such element.
- this bistable element comprises a rotor 1 formed from a cylindrical body 2, the lateral surface of which, in known manner, in two diametrically opposite zones 2a, 2b, different indications 3a, 3b, such as a reflective yellow patch 3a and a black and matt patch 3b.
- the rotor 1 is carried by an axis 4 which is free to rotate in a bearing 5 ensuring its guiding in rotation and its immobilization in translation in at least one direction, as will be explained below.
- the bar 11 can therefore be temporarily magnetized in the chosen direction and the end of each of its branches 17, 18 then alternately has a pole NORD N l , and SUD S 1O '
- the branches 17, 18 of the bar 11 are arranged at the times parallel and symmetrical ment relative to axis 4 with their free end substantially in the plane where the poles Ng, S ⁇ of the permanent magnet 6 rotate.
- this result is obtained by means of contours or cutouts 21, 22 (FIG. 4) of the permanent magnet 6, in the zones 23, 24 which present the poles and of the fact that, with respect to to the axis of rotation 4, these cutouts are diametrically opposite and locate, at different distances, the fraction of zones 23 8 , 24 8 , on the one hand, and 23 b , 24 b on the other hand, delimited by the line radial 7.
- the phase shift A is proportional to the size of the cut and to the size of the branches of the electromagnet 10.
- the permanent magnet 6 can also have any shape, for example that shown in strong lines in FIG. 4 or symbolized in fine lines and hatched in the same FIG. 4.
- this permanent magnet can be fitted with a bistable element whose rotor corpos would be of any shape such as cylindrical, spherical or flat.
- the rotor body is cylindrical or slightly domed and, according to one characteristic of the invention, completely covers the electromagnet 10 and the permanent magnet, on the one hand, to shelter them from knocks, dust, the action of external magnetic fields and, on the other hand, to offer the indications to display, the largest possible surface.
- the bearing 5 of the axis of rotation of the rotor and therefore of the permanent magnet 6 is rigorously positioned relative to the branches 17, 18 of the electromagnet and this by engagement of said branches in bores 25 of the ring 26 making the bearing 5.
- the air gap E can be reduced to the minimum value, which makes it possible to obtain a high torque for very low consumption.
- the axis of rotation 4, integral with the rotor can be anchored or simply engaged in the bearing 5 until it abuts on the bottom 26 'of the housing, without it being necessary to provide a retaining element.
- the permanent magnet will be biased towards the interior of the branches of the electromagnet and cannot escape.
- the support 9 of the electromagnet 10 is formed of a radial plate relative to the fictitious extension of the axis 4 of rotation and on which almost rests the cantilevered end of the cylindrical body of the rotor and this, in order to perfect the seal.
- This plate can also have a flange 27 or a ring capped by the rotor body to guide the rotor or simply producing a sealing baffle.
- the plate further comprises a base 28 giving a good seat to the entire bistable element and / or studs 29 which will form positioning shims by pressing against similar elements or other stops.
- the elements of the same row or of the same unit could be carried by a single support 30.
- a mask 31 can be arranged presenting, opposite each body 2, cutouts 32 of the shape of the acronym to appear and for example circular, which then makes it possible to affix on the bodies of the colored areas 3 a , 3 b , of greater surface area and of different shape.
