Definitions

  • the subject of the present invention is a stone drill, for a drill or electric hammer, having a head with an outside diameter between 5 and 12 mm, provided with a hard metal plate and two identical helical flutes, comprising guide lips. for waste disposal and whose diameter of the cylindrical core is greater than half the outside diameter of the drill.
  • the object of the invention is limited to drills of small diameter, from 5 to 12 mm, in particular for the installation of wall anchors, because the problems which arise are different for these small diameters than for diameters greater than 12 mm and cannot be resolved by the same means.
  • the stone drills still used today have deep flutes having a circular profile with a large curvature similar to the profile of flutes of drills for drilling metal.
  • the lips or guide strips are therefore necessarily relatively wide, their surface representing approximately 50% of the surface of the cylindrical envelope of the drill. If the resistance of the drill is good and the guidance excellent, on the other hand the friction surface is considerable which causes rapid and high heating.
  • the waste which is mainly in the form of more or less fine-grained powder, tends to get caught in the flutes, relatively narrow and deep, which causes a blockage, increases the heating of the drill and the torque. rotary and therefore the heating of the machine driving the drill, which has the consequence of limiting the working speed, that is to say of penetration and causing the breakage of the drill subjected to a too high torsional force.
  • Drills with two flutes with a profile in an arc of a circle and of different depths are also known, obtained by rolling (US-A-3469643).
  • the main flute is deep and therefore the drill has a core of low resistance and the evacuation of waste is not favorable given the slight slope of the propeller.
  • the object of the present invention is to further increase the working speed without further stressing the drill or reducing its service life.
  • each flute has, in axial section, a profile in an arc of a radius of radius between 8 mm and 15 mm , that the ratio of the surface of the two guide lips and the surface of the external cylindrical envelope of the drill is less than 5%, that the angle of the flute helix relative to the axis of the drill is included between 30 and 35 °, and that the ratio between the minimum diameter of the core of the drill and the outside diameter of the cylindrical casing is between 0.6 and 0.65.
  • the depth of the flutes decreases from the head to the tail, which increases the mechanical resistance of the drill.
  • the hard metal plate does not exceed the cylindrical envelope of the drill as is the case of known drills. This is possible due to the very small width of the lips.
  • This last characteristic offers several advantages: reinforcement of the support behind the plate and on all its height: better guidance and better cylindricity of the hole; symmetrically distributed waste disposal volume; perfect junction with helical flutes without reducing the passage section. It is also not necessary to provide a reduction in the depth of the flutes near the head as provided in the drill according to patent DE-B-23 58 447.
  • the drill represented in FIG. 1 comprises, like the known drills, a fixing shank 1, a body 2 and a head 3 provided with a hard metal plate 4.
  • This body has two helical flutes 6 and 7 between which extend two guide lips 8 and 9 having a cylindrical surface coincident with the cylindrical casing 5 of the drill.
  • the angle of the propeller a relative to the axis of the drill is between 30 and 35 °.
  • the cylindrical surface of each of the lips 8 and 9 represents, before wear only 1 to 2% of the surface of the envelope. After some wear, this surface can reach approximately 5% of the surface of the cylindrical casing 5.
  • the drill is further characterized by a very slight profile of flutes (6 and 7).
  • the profile of the flutes 6 and 7 is in the form of a highly taut circular arc.
  • the radius R of curvature of this profile is equal to 12.5 mm.
  • the minimum diameter that is to say the diameter of the core of the drill D n , as well as the outside diameter De.
  • the ratio D n / D e is always at less than 0.6 and between 0.6 and 0.65.
  • the flutes (6 and 7) have a shape such that the connection of this shape with the primitive cylinder of diameter D B takes place harmoniously and does not offer any apparent weakness.
  • the resistance of the drill is optimal.
  • the depth of the flutes (6 and 7) gradually decreases from the head 3 towards the shank 1, the radius of curvature R of the profile of the flutes (6 and 7) and the pitch of the propeller being constant and the width of the lips (8 and 9) increasing.
  • the volume of these limited by the cylindrical casing 5, of diameter De, of the drill, is perfectly sufficient to ensure excellent evacuation of the waste, this evacuation being moreover favored precisely by this stretched arc profile which does not have angles in which the waste would be likely to accumulate.
  • the very small area of the guide lips 8 and 9 greatly reduces the friction during drilling.
  • the optimal radius of curvature R of the flutes (6 and 7) varies according to the outside diameter De of the drill. It is for example 9.5 mm for an initial outside diameter D 8 of the drill body of 7.5 mm, 10 mm for an initial outside diameter De of 6.5 mm and 11 mm for an initial outside diameter De of 10.0 mm.
