Description

The present invention relates to a burner for a torch with rapid gas flow.

There are known burners for gas torches comprising an expansion chamber and a combustion chamber separated by a diffusion grid constituting the nozzle means, allowing the distribution of the gas flow in the combustion chamber where the gas is consumed, this kind of burner during the combustion of the gas has its side walls which are brought to very high temperature not admitting the possibility of gripping by the user. So as to overcome this drawback, some burners are equipped with a secondary surround offset from the side walls and provided with large recesses in order to allow ventilation.

The burner which is the subject of the invention comprises two symmetrical half shells fixed to each other having an inlet end which adjusts and fits on the gas flow supply duct and, in its extension, an outlet end , intermediate between the two ends, a diffusion grid constituting the nozzle means is maintained and delimits an expansion chamber and a constituting chamber, the diffusion grid has a U or V-shaped section provided with recesses constituting the means nozzle for the flow and distribution of the gas flow both on its front part of circular or triangular shape and on its side walls, these being offset from the interior walls of the burner in order to create flow paths for the passing gas flow across them, flow taking place outside the combustion chamber by virtue of the conical section extension of said chamber intended to cause an increase in the speed of Lement of the lateral gas flow, the combustion in the gas flow chamber which flows through the front part of the grid, allowing the ignition of the lateral gas flow outside said chamber while promoting the attachment of the flame.

The diffusion grid consists of one or two sheets depending on the gas pressures used, the said sheet or sheets are provided with recesses constituting the nozzle means, the surface of the recesses being at least equal to or greater than the outlet section of the combustion chamber, in the case of using low or medium pressure gases, two sheets are used, they are superimposed and joined or not joined at the front and this in order to avoid flashbacks, the section of the recesses of the upper sheet being larger than the section of the recesses in the lower sheet.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge more clearly from the description which follows, given with regard to the accompanying drawings given by way of nonlimiting example, where:
  • FIG. 1 is a burner with a rectangular outlet section,
  • FIG. 2 is a burner with a circular outlet section,
  • - Figures 3, 4 and 5 show in section different forms of grids housed in burners.

As shown in Figures 1 to 5, the burner 1 has two symmetrical half shells 2 and 3 fixed to each other by welding or any other known means, the end 4 is the cylindrical entry intended for s' fit and fit onto the fast-flowing gas flow supply duct, not shown, the end 5 is the outlet. Intermediate between inlet 4 and outlet 5, a diffusion grid 6, constituting the nozzle means, is maintained, it delimits the expansion chamber 7 and the combustion chamber 8. The diffusion grid 6 shown in FIG. 3, for the use of gas at low pressure, consists of two perforated sheets 9 and 10 superimposed and offset in the front part, said grid 6 has a U-shaped section whose front part 11 1 is circular, the perforated sheets 9 and 10 have recesses constituting the nozzle means both on the front part 11 and on the side walls 12, the total surface of the recesses of the upper sheet 9 is approximately 50% greater than the total surface of the recesses of the sheet lower 10 and this in order to avoid flashbacks, the total surface of the recesses in the lower sheet 10 being equal to or greater than the outlet surface 5 of the combustion chamber of the burner 1, the grid 6 can be formed by a single perforated sheet, in particular in the case of the use of high pressure gases, while for medium pressure gases two superimposed and joined perforated sheets can be used.

The grate 6 is held in the burner 1 by means of the extensions 13 of the side walls 12 which are inserted in the grooves 14 arranged on the shells 2 and 3, the insertion of the extensions 13 in the grooves 14 determines the position of the side walls 12 of the grid 6 relative to the interior faces of the burner 1 so as to generate corridors 15 for the flow of the gas flow passing through said walls 12, the spacing is such that it only allows the flow of the gas flow but not its combustion this taking place outside the combustion chamber 8, thanks to the extension 16 of the chamber 8 of conical shape which causes an increase in the speed of flow of the lateral gas flow, the combustion in the chamber gas flow flowing at high speed outside the chamber while promoting the attachment of the flame.

The fact that the combustion of the lateral gas flow takes place outside the combustion chamber generates a certain advantage, in particular at the level of the walls of the burner 1 which remain cold during said combustion.

Without departing from the scope of the invention, the expansion chambers 7 and combustion 8 may be of different shapes: in the shape of a parallelepiped, cylindrical, ovoid, etc., the shape of the grids 6 of section in the shape of U or V being adapted to match the shape of said chambers, in particular that of combustion.
