Abstract

A liquid solution formulated on an aqueous basis with a mix of surfactants and various oxides performs the cooling down and the catching of the harmful substances present as nitrogen oxides NOx, sulfur compounds and particulate matters PM10 that are inside the exhausts of diesel engines. The liquid solution is constantly purified and regenerated by a specific electrolytic reactor and then recirculated.

Description

The liquid solution of the present invention, formulated in accordance with the table shown in the figure, neutralizes all harmful substances (NOx and SO2) that are present in the exhaust gases of diesel engines. The liquid solution is able to mix with exhaust gases and simultaneously cool them to a temperature in the range from 35 to 55 ° C, which is slightly higher than the ambient temperature. These conditions help to trap PM 10 particulate matter, which is also present in the exhaust gas, so that it does not travel with the exhaust gas stream. For optimal operating conditions of cooling and mixing with the exhaust gases, a specific catalytic bed is required where the slurry performs its function.

As a water-based liquid solution (more than 90 vol.%), It can perform its function at low temperatures and be processed by an electrolytic method for its purification and recovery.

In order to facilitate the capture and subsequent dispersion of carbon accumulations of various sizes, as well as PM 10 particulate matter, various types of effective surfactants are required for the slurry.

SO2.The presence in the liquid solution of potassium carbonate K2CO 3 in combination with potassium hydroxide KOH provides selective neutralization of acidic compounds NOx and SO2.

KOH.The presence of potassium permanganate KMnO 4 , a strong oxidizing agent, promotes the oxidation of nitrogen oxide NO to conversion to nitrogen dioxide NO 2 , the latter being more easily neutralized by potassium hydroxide KOH.

The composition of this liquid solution makes it possible to purify it from harmful substances and restore it, a process that takes place in a suitable electrolytic reactor, since the ions present in the solution ensure the restoration of the original composition, therefore, the addition of solutes is not required during multiple working cycles with preservation in any case of its functional characteristics.

The figure shows a graph in terms of percent by volume as a range and as the most preferred value of the various components of the slurry of the present invention.

KOH.The most preferred composition contains 93% distilled water, 3.8% surfactant mixture, 2.3% potassium carbonate K2CO3, 0.65% potassium permanganate KMnO 4 , 0.25% potassium hydroxide KOH.
