Abstract

Provided are smoking articles 10 with a controlled flavor release product 16. The controlled flavor release product includes a first time-release flavorant 24 and a second time-release flavorant 26. The controlled flavor release product is a film or a lip balm type formulation that is applied to the downstream end 14 of a smoking article.

Description

The application for this patent has priority application US, ser. No. 60/929010 of June 8, 2007, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.

Flavors are often added to tobacco products, including smoking articles and smokeless, mouth-held tobacco products, to provide the desired organoleptic sensations. Typically, flavorings are added to the tobacco material or filter.

The smoking articles described herein include a product with controlled aroma release that provides a long lasting and changing organoleptic sensation.

A product with a controlled release of aroma is proposed, which includes at least two flavors, which stands out first and stands out second. In addition, flavoring agents for subsequent isolation may be included.

The first flavoring agent and the second flavoring agent preferably contain different flavors, but they may contain the same flavors. In one embodiment, the first flavoring agent and the second flavoring agent contain the same flavoring agent. In addition, the first flavoring and the second flavoring are preferably secreted when smoking at different times to provide continuous pleasure and a variety of tastes. It is also preferred that the release of the second flavor over time overlaps the release of the first flavor.

In a preferred embodiment, the first flavoring and second flavoring are encapsulated in controlled release microcapsules. Microcapsules are used to produce a product with controlled release of aroma. Each microcapsule may contain only the first flavoring release or only the second flavoring release.

In another embodiment, the microcapsules form a product with controlled release of aroma, which can be used in a smoking article. The product with controlled release of aroma preferably includes at least two flavorings - allocated first and allocated second.

Suitable microcapsules for the controlled release of aroma were developed by 8a1uopa bc, Dayton, pc. New Jersey, USA (for example, under the trademarks MiSH8a1 and Yapo8a1).

Mi1y8a1 (trademark) is a free-flowing powdery matrix with high concentrations of functional ingredients encapsulated in the nanosphere. No. 1po8a1 (trademark) is a liquid composition encapsulated in solid hydrophobic nanospheres. Each microcapsule can contain different oil-based flavors for their controlled release over time. Microcapsules provide enhanced bioadhesive properties, so that fragrances bind to the mucous membrane in the oral cavity to prolong the taste. In addition, microcapsules can be designed to affect specific areas of the mouth.

In a preferred embodiment, the product with controlled release of aroma has mechanisms of controlled diffusion. The first flavoring agent and the second flavoring agent can be released by the same or different mechanisms at the same or different time. Additional flavoring agents released at different times can be used, and they can be used in different ways at different times.

In one embodiment, the first flavoring and second flavoring are released by moisture from the lips or mouth. In another embodiment, heat from the ignition of the smoking article or from the user's mouth may cause the first flavoring to be released. In yet another embodiment, the first flavoring agent and the second flavoring agent are released due to a change in pH. A change in pH can occur when a product with controlled release of aroma is placed in a certain environment, for example, in a person’s mouth. Alternatively, a substance can be added to the microcapsule that changes the pH and causes the release of another microcapsule.

The first flavoring and second flavoring are preferably included in the product to provide controlled flavor release. In a preferred embodiment, the product with controlled release of aroma is presented in the form of a composition such as lip balm. A composition of the type of lip balm can be prepared from wax with a prominent first flavor and a second flavor included. In another embodiment, the product with controlled release of aroma is present in the form of a film having the first flavoring agent and the second flavoring agent included in it. Films can be formed by conventional means known in the art and can be soluble and / or destructible. The film is preferably glued to the rear downstream end of the smoking article.

In one embodiment, the first flavor may include a different flavor than the second flavor, so that the user is provided with at least two flavors during smoking. In addition, since the first flavoring agent and the second flavoring agent are released at different times, the sensory sensations are prolonged, thereby providing the user with a large amount of flavor for a longer period of time.

Suitable flavors for use in a controlled flavor release product include, but are not limited to, peppermint, such as peppermint and spearmint, vanilla, chocolate, licorice, citrus and other fruit flavors, spicy flavors, such as cinnamon, methyl salicylate, linalool, bergamot oil , geranium oil, lemon oil, ginger oil, tobacco flavors and other substances commonly used to flavor tobacco products.

Other suitable flavoring agents may include compounds selected from the group consisting of acid, alcohol, ester, aldehyde, ketone, pyrazine, combinations or mixtures thereof, and the like. Suitable flavoring compounds can be selected, for example, from the group consisting of phenylacetic acid, solanone, megastigmatienone, 2-heptanone, benzyl alcohol, cis-3hexenylacetate, valerianic acid, valerianic aldehyde, ester, terpene, sesquiterpen, butotone, icholate, malnut combinations, etc. The first and second flavors may contain a coolant.

Additives, such as, for example, chemesthetic substances, may also be included in a product with controlled aroma release. Suitable chemesthetic agents include, but are not limited to, capsaicin, tannins, mustard oil, wintergreen oil, cinnamon oil, allicin, quinine, citric acid, and salt.

In one embodiment, complementary aromas may be selected for the first flavoring and second flavoring to provide a combined flavor. For example, a cherry-vanilla flavor can be provided by choosing a cherry flavor for the first flavor and a vanilla flavor for the second flavor. In an embodiment, the release times of the first and second flavors may overlap to provide pleasure from complementary flavors.

The term smoking article includes cigarettes, pipes, cigars and very small cigars. Unconventional cigarettes, such as cigarettes used with electric smoking systems, are usually also included in the definition of smoking articles or cigarettes.

Traditional cigarettes usually contain two parts: a tobacco-containing part, sometimes called a tobacco rod, and a filtering part, which may be called a filtration zone. The filter is usually surrounded by mouthpiece paper, which forms the mouthpiece end of the cigarette. Mouthpiece paper covers the end of the tobacco rod to hold the filter and the tobacco rod together. The tobacco core includes a paper wrapper in which tobacco is wrapped, and glue holding the seams of the paper wrapper together. The tobacco rod has a first end that is lit or heated for smoking tobacco. When the tobacco rod is lit or heated, smoke moves from the lit end toward the end of the tobacco rod at the filter and then through the filter.

The relative positions of the front and rear between the filter segments and other parts are described herein with respect to the direction of movement of the mainstream smoke when it is drawn in from the tobacco rod through a multi-component filter when puffed.

In a preferred embodiment, the smoking article is a cigarette. The cigarette may contain tobacco material, a filter, and a controlled release product. In one embodiment, the cigarette may further comprise at least one sorbent.

As used herein, the term “sorbent” refers to an adsorbent, an absorbent, or a substance that acts both an adsorbent and an absorbent. Preferred sorbents include various types of activated carbon, molecular sieves, such as zeolites and mixtures thereof.

Examples of suitable types of tobacco materials that can be used include, but are not limited to, smoke-dried tobacco, Burley type tobacco, Maryland type tobacco, Oriental type tobacco, rare tobacco, specialty tobacco, mixtures thereof, and the like. The tobacco material may be provided in any suitable form, including, but not limited to, tobacco sheets, processed tobacco materials, such as expanded or expanded tobacco, processed tobacco veins, such as cut-twisted or cut swollen middle veins, reconstituted tobacco materials, mixtures thereof, etc., in addition, tobacco substitutes can be used.

In one embodiment, the tobacco material may include at least one moisturizing agent, for example glycerin, at least one sweetener or at least one flavoring, or a combination thereof, dispersed throughout the tobacco material.

As shown in FIG. 1, the smoking article 10 has a front end 12 and a rear end 14. The smoking article 10 includes a filter zone 40 that is located at the rear end 14. The filter zone 40 includes a filter 42 surrounded by a portion of the mouthpiece 18. The filter zone 40 is attached to the tobacco the rod 20. In an embodiment, the filter 42 is made of cellulose acetate fibers. The smoking article 10 preferably includes a controlled aroma product 16. In an embodiment, the flavor control product 16 includes a second flavor 26.

The flavor control product 16 preferably covers the mouthpiece paper 18 that surrounds the filter 42 at the rear end 14 of the smoking article 10. The flavor control product 16 is also preferably present as a lip balm composition 15. A lip balm type composition 15 can be made of wax with the first flavoring 2-4 and the second flavoring 26 included therein.

In another embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the product 16 with controlled release of aroma is present in the form of a lip balm type composition 15, which covers the end 22 of the filter 42 of the smoking article 10. The lip balm type composition 15 is transmitted to the user's mouth in contact with the back portion 14.

In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, the smoking article 10 has a front end 12, a rear end 14, a tobacco rod 20, a filtration zone 40 including a filter 42 coated with cigarette paper 18, and a flavor control product 16.

The aroma controlled product 16 is preferably present in the form of a film 30. The film 30 is formed by a conventional means known in the art. In a preferred embodiment, film 30 is soluble or degradable. The first flavoring 24 and the second flavoring 26 are preferably included in the film 30. The film 30 is wrapped around and adhered to the mouthpiece paper 18.

In another embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the smoking article 10 has a front end 12, a rear end 14, a tobacco rod 20, a filtration zone 40 including a filter 42 coated with cigarette paper 18, and an aroma-controlled product 16. The product 16 with controlled release of aroma is preferably available in the form of a film 30, which is attached to the end 22 of the filter 42.

In a preferred embodiment, the film 30 is glued by any known adhesive to the mouthpiece paper 18 or the end 22 of the filter 42. For example, the film 30 may be glued to the mouthpiece paper 18.

In an embodiment, the smoking article 10 may not include a filtration zone. As seen in FIG. 5, the smoking article 10 may be a cigar without a filter zone or a cigarette without a filter. The flavor controlled product 16 may cover the rear end 14 of the wrapper 100 or the end 200 of the smoking article. In an embodiment, the flavor control product 16 may be in the form of a film that is wrapped around the rear end 14 of the smoking article 10.

In addition, a method for manufacturing a smoking article comprising a product with controlled aroma release is provided.

In a preferred embodiment, this method includes contacting the wrapper with a product with controlled flavoring, surrounding the tobacco with a wrapper, and sealing the wrapper to form a smoking article. In addition, the method may include attaching a filter to the rod and then cutting the rod to a specific length.

In another embodiment, a method of manufacturing a smoking article having a product with controlled flavoring comprises coating the mouthpiece paper with a controlled flavoring product and wrapping the filter with mouthpiece paper. The coating of the product with controlled release of aroma can be applied by dip or brush. In addition, the method may include the step of attaching the filter to the tobacco rod to form a cigarette.

In yet another embodiment, the method comprises coating the end of the filter with a lip balm type composition having the first flavoring and second flavoring included in it. The filter may be manufactured by conventional methods known in the art and attached to a tobacco rod to form a cigarette. The end of the filter is then coated by dipping, spraying or otherwise applying a composition such as lip balm to the end of a cigarette.

In a preferred embodiment, the method comprises adhering a film having a first flavoring agent and a second flavoring agent included therein to the end of the filter of the smoking article. The film is cut to the appropriate size and glued to the end of the filter.

In another embodiment, the method includes gluing a film having a first-flavoring and second-flavoring included on the cigarette holder to smoking

In another embodiment, the method includes gluing a film having a first flavoring agent and a second flavoring agent included therein to the wrapper of the smoking article.

Changes and modifications to the foregoing will be apparent to those skilled in the art. Such changes and modifications should be considered within the scope of the attached claims.

Claims (9)

CLAIM 1. Smoking product with controlled release of aroma, containing a tobacco rod; rear end; a product with controlled release of aroma, comprising the first aromatic flavor delivered in the first time and initiated by the first mechanism, and the second aromatic flavor delivered in the second time and initiated by the second mechanism, the second time being different from the first time, wherein the first and second fragrances are enclosed in microcapsules with controlled release, each microcapsule comprising a first flavoring or second flavoring, and a first flavoring Torr includes flavorant (s), wherein (Party or) emitted from a second flavor, wherein the product is a controlled release flavor into contact with the rear end of said smoking article. 2. The smoking article of claim 1, wherein said product with controlled flavor release is applied to the outer surface of said rear end of said smoking article. 7. The smoking article of claim 1, wherein said first flavoring agent and said second flavoring agent are selected from the group consisting of menthol, mint, chocolate, licorice, fruit flavors, tangerine, citrus, cherry flavors, gamma octalactone, vanilla, ethyl vanillin, breath fresheners, spicy flavors, cinnamon, methyl salicylate, linalool, bergamot oil, geranium oil, lemon oil, ginger oil, tobacco flavors, smoothing or refreshing active compounds, bitter substances and their combinations. 8. The smoking article of claim 1, wherein said first flavoring agent and said second flavoring agent include a hemestic substance. 9. A method of manufacturing a smoking article according to claim 1 with controlled release of aroma, comprising contacting the rear end of the smoking article with a product with controlled release of aroma, wherein said product with controlled release of aroma contains the first flavoring and the second flavoring, the first flavoring comprising flavoring agent (s) that differs from the second flavoring agent, wherein the first and second flavorings are enclosed in microcapsules with adjustable isolation so that each microcapsule includes a first flavoring or second flavoring.
