Description

DK 181322 B1 1
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a truck comprising a truck mounted crane.
Background of the Invention
A truck mounted crane is a machine, which is self-propelled and is mounted on a truck body. The truck mounted crane provides great mobility. It is therefore a preferred choice to use a truck mounted crane, because it offers a high level of transportability and ease of use. Though care should be taken using a truck mounted crane. The truck may tip over when the crane is lifting too high a load. The truck is stabilized using outriggers.
The outriggers can extend vertically or horizontally and are used to level and stabilize the crane during hoisting.
If the truck mounted crane is handled incorrectly, this can be a very dangerous machine, so an exceptional standard of safety is required. Lifting will therefore not be conducted until load weights have been determined. When estimating load weights, operators will stay within a percentage of the cranes rated capacity, or the manufacturer recommenda- tion. The estimated rated load capacity is often provided using a load chart, which re- lates to the specific truck having a specific truck mounted crane.
The truck mounted crane has a restricted radius relative to the centre of gravity of the truck, wherein the crane can move objects of a given weight and still remain stable, and thereby avoid the tipping point of the truck. The truck mounted crane lifting capability can be very limited in some movement direction, which reduces the load capacity.
Furthermore, the outriggers may not provide enough stability during hoisting. It can for example be a problem for the truck to be parked in an optimal location on a site, where the outriggers may be limited in the optimal extension and thereby the fully support from the outriggers is not provided. The truck mounted crane is reduced significantly in the load capacity.

CN 105584405 A discloses a truck with a mounted crane, where the truck comprises a semi-trailer attached to trailer attachment means on the truck, such as a fifth wheel, for providing increased counterweight and hence stability.
Object of the Invention
It is an object of the invention to provide a device which is capable of displacing a centre of gravity for a truck mounted crane, such that the truck mounted crane lifting capacity is increased and stability of the crane is provided, when the truck mounted crane is lifting objects.
Description of the Invention
The present invention addresses this by providing a support device for displacing a cen- tre of gravity of a truck mounted crane, wherein the support device comprises: - at least one attachment means for attaching the support device to a truck body or a semi-trailer, - at least one supporting part which is arranged relative to the truck body or the semi- trailer, - at least one moveable means, wherein the moveable means is configured to move said supporting parts in a predetermined direction relative to the truck body, such that said supporting part is capable of engaging a part of a truck body or a semi- trailer, relatively attached to the truck body or the semi-trailer, such that the centre of gravity of the truck mounted crane is displaced relative to the truck, from at first centre position to a second centre position.
A crane mounted on a truck is built around the design principals of balance and lever- age. The truck mounted crane must be capable of lifting heavy loads, through the use of leverage, while the truck, which is carrying the crane, remains in balance.
The truck mounted crane may essentially comprise a beam, boom, or triangular struc- ture acting as a cantilever. The truck mounted crane may be mounted rotatably on the crane truck, wherein the truck mounted crane is configured to provide translatory and/or swinging movements in vertical or horizontal planes, or a combination of such move- ments.
DK 181322 B1 3
Calculating the truck mounted crane’s leverage is simple and is performed by taking the weight of crane and truck and multiply the weight by the distance from the center of gravity to the tipping point. The center of gravity may by displaced, by altering the truck’s weight distribution relative to the truck mounted crane.
The truck may comprise a semi-trailer, which is attached to the trailer attachment means, such as a fifth wheel, on the truck. By truck and/or semi-trailer is also meant flatbed truck/semi-trailer, block truck/trailers and any other type of truck carrying a load and/or a truck mounted crane. The truck mounted crane’s center of gravity may be dis- placed by altering the truck’s weight distribution relative to the semi-trailer. The weight of the semi-trailer is fully or partially transferred onto on the support device. The sup- port device is therefore capable of displacing the centre of gravity of the truck mounted crane.
The support device has at least one attachment means for attaching the support device to the truck body. The support device is attached to the truck body, such that the support device is capable of supporting the semi-trailer. The support device is supporting the semi-trailer, such that the weight provided on the fifth wheel is reduced, when the sup- port device is engaging the semi-trailer, and thereby transferring the load form the fifth wheel to the support device.
The support device has at least one supporting part, which is capable of engaging a semi-trailer, which is attached to the fifth wheel on the truck body. The supporting part or parts is configured to engage the lower surface of the semi-trailer. The support device has at least one moveable means for moving the supporting parts upwards and down- wards relative to the truck body. The moving means is attached to the truck body using the attachment means. The moveable means is configured to move the supporting parts in a predetermined direction relative to the truck body. The moveable means is capable of moving the supporting parts upwards and downwards relative to the truck body, transferring more or less load from the fifth wheel to the support device.
The truck mounted crane may be arranged in the front of the truck or in the front of the semi-trailer, wherein the front is relative to the forward driving direction of the truck.
DK 181322 B1 4
The centre of gravity of the truck mounted crane is displaced from at first centre position to a second centre position, when the support device engages the semi-trailer, and thereby transferring the load from the trailer attachment means, for example the fifth wheel, to the support device.
The effect of using a support device, is that the support device is providing a counter- balance relative to the truck mounted crane, such that the truck mounted crane lifting capacity will increase and still provide a stability during operation, when the truck mounted crane is lifting objects. The support device may be operated automatically or manually.
The truck mounted crane may be arranged in a front end of the truck or in the back end of a semi-trailer. The support device may be arranged in the opposite end of the truck body relative to the truck mounted crane, such that the truck mounted crane is arranged in the front end of the truck body, and the support device is arranged in the back end of the truck body, wherein the front and the back end of the truck body is relative to the driving direction. If the truck mounted crane is arranged in the front on a semi-trailer, the support device may then be displaced relative to the position of the truck mounted crane. If the support device is arranged in the opposite end relative to the truck mounted crane, such that the center of gravity is located between the support device and the truck mounted crane, it is more or less possible to displace the centre of gravity relative to the truck mounted crane from at first centre position to a second centre position, by affect- ing weight distribution on the truck.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, wherein said at least one supporting part is an elongated supporting part and extends along a transverse axis relative to a longitudinal axis of the truck body, such that the supporting part is extending from a first side to a second side of the truck body.
The support device has an elongated supporting part, which is capable of engaging the semi-trailer from a first side to a second side of the semi-trailer. The support part is capable of engaging the bottom side of the semi-trailer. The supporting part supports the semi-trailer while lifting the semi-trailer and stabilising the semi-trailer at the same
DK 181322 B1 time. The elongated supporting part is configured to be elevated upwards and down- wards relative to the truck body, using the moveable means.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, wherein the support device comprises 5 engagement means for engaging the semi-trailer, and the support device has a support- ing part side capable of engaging the semi-trailer using said engagement means.
The support device may rest on the ground or a support base below or on the sides of the semi-trailer. The center of gravity may by displaced by altering the truck’s weight distribution relative to the truck mounted crane. The support device’s supporting part or parts is capable of engaging and lifting or pushing a semi-trailer in a vertical direc- tion, such that the centre of gravity of the truck mounted crane is displaced relative to the truck, from at first centre position to a second centre position.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, wherein a first supporting part and a second supporting part, each having engagement means, such that the first supporting part is capable of engaging a first side of the semi-trailer using said engagement means, and a second supporting part side is capable of engaging a second side of the semi- trailer using said engagement means.
A first supporting part may be provided with first engagement means and a second sup- porting part may be provided with second engagement means. The first supporting part is capable of engaging a first side of the semi-trailer using said engagement means, and a second supporting part side is capable of engaging a second side of the semi-trailer.
The first supporting part and the second supporting part may be equally lifted or low- ered, such that the semi-trailer is elevated equally in each side of the semi-trailer.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, said predetermined direction is a vertical direction, such that the moveable means elevates said supporting part relative to the truck body.
The support device is configured to engage the semi-trailer with an upwards movement, using the elongated supporting part or parts. The support device may lift the semi-trailer away from the truck body, when lifting the semi-trailer. The support device thereby
DK 181322 B1 6 transfers the load from the fifth wheel to the support device. The load being displaced away from the fifth wheel to the support device, is determined by the distance between the truck body and the semi-trailer.
The moveable means may be attached to the truck body frame. The moveable means arranged inside the truck body frame and/or outside the truck body frame. The moveable means arranged in position wherein the moveable means is capable of moving the sup- porting parts, such that the supporting parts are capable of engaging the semi-trailer.
The moveable means is configured to elevate the semi-trailer away from or towards the truck body. The moveable means may comprise at least one actuator. The moveable means may elevate the support device in steps or stepless using the actuators. The ac- tuators may be hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or electrical actuators.
The actuators may be activated from a remote distance using a remote-control unit. A control device may control the elevation of the support device relative to the movement of the truck mounted crane.
The crane or truck cabs may contain a computer device, which is used to help operators make valuable lifting calculations. The operator may provide the control device input data for example about the weight, height, and path of an object and the control device suggests the most suitable method of hoisting. The computer-controlled support device improves the safety by increasing the load capacity and is controlled on the basis of the truck mounted crane’s moving capabilities. The control device leaves less margin for error and reduces the impact of human inaccuracies.
In a still further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the truck mounted crane is attached to the truck body in a first end and the support device is attached to the truck body in a second end opposite to the first end where the truck mounted crane is located.
The truck mounted crane is attached to the truck body, such that the truck mounted crane is capable of moving in a radius of maximum 360° from the truck mounted crane’s center of rotation. When displacing the weight from the fifth wheel to the support de- vice, the center of gravity is displaced, by altering the truck body’s weight distribution
DK 181322 B1 7 relative to the truck mounted crane in a first end and the support device is attached to the truck body in a second end opposite to the first end where the truck mounted crane is located. The displacement of the center of gravity depends on the amount of weight moved from the fifth wheel to the support device, boom position and the position of the truck mounted crane and/or part of the truck mounted etc.
The invention is also directed at a truck with a truck mounted crane comprising a sup- port device, wherein the truck comprises a truck body, wherein said support device is attached to the truck body in a predetermined attachment position, such that said support device is configured to engage and move a part of a truck body or a trailer attached to the truck body in a predetermined direction, such that the centre of gravity is displaced relative to the truck mounted crane from at first centre position to a second centre posi- tion.
A truck with a truck mounted crane comprising a support device, wherein the truck comprises a truck body. The support device is attached to the truck body in a predeter- mined attachment position. The support device is configured to engage and move a part of a truck body or a trailer attached to the truck body in a predetermined direction. A centre of gravity is displaced relative to the truck mounted crane from at first centre position to a second centre position.
The support device for displacing a centre of gravity of a truck mounted crane, by en- gaging a lower part of a truck body which may be lifted relative to the rest of the truck body. Or the support device for displacing a centre of gravity of a truck mounted crane, by engaging and lifting a lower part of semi-trailer relative the rest of the truck body.

At least one supporting part is arranged relative to the truck body using at least one moveable means. The moveable means is configured to move said supporting part or parts in a predetermined direction relative to the truck body. The support device is capable of engaging a semi-trailer from below the semi-trailer and/or on the elongated sides of the semi-trailer.
DK 181322 B1 8

The second support de- vice is arranged at the back of the truck body, capable of moving the load from the semi- trailer towards the front of the truck body.
The trailer attachment means, such as a fifth wheel, is arranged between the first support device and the second support device.
The invention is also directed at a method for displacing a centre of gravity of a truck mounted crane, wherein the method comprises one or more of following acts: - providing a truck having a truck body and a truck mounted crane, - attaching a support device in a predetermined attachment position on the truck body, - elevating at least one supporting part relative to the truck body, such that said support- ing part engages and moves a part of a truck body or a trailer attached to the truck body in a predetermined direction, such that the centre of gravity is displaced relative to the truck mounted crane from at first centre position to a second centre position.
The invention is also directed at a method for displacing a centre of gravity of a truck mounted crane. The acts are first of all related to having a truck comprising a truck mounted crane. Detailed Description of the Invention
An embodiment of the invention is explained in the following detailed description. It is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its scope to the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced or carried out in various ways.
Fig. 1 illustrates a truck 1 having a truck body 2 with a truck with a truck mounted crane 3 mounted in the front of the truck body adjacent to the truck cab. The front and the back of the truck body 2 is relative to the driving direction. The truck comprises a fifth
DK 181322 B1 10 wheel 5 as a trailer attachment means. A semi-trailer 4 is attached to the truck using attachment means for attachment to the fifth wheel 5.
The truck comprises two support devices 6°, 67. A first support device 6” is attached to back of the trailer body. A second support device 6” is attached to front of the trailer body. The fifth wheel 5 is placed between the first support device 6'and the second support device 6.
The support devices 67,6” are each capable of engaging and lifting the semi-trailer rel- atively to the truck body. When for example the first support device 6” is lifting the semi-trailer 4, the load L placed on the fifth wheel 5 is displaced, illustrated by L2, fully or partially from the load L on the fifth wheel 5 to L1 of the first support device 6.
When for example the second support device 6” is lifting the semi-trailer 4, the load L placed on the fifth wheel 5 is displaced, opposite direction of the load L2, fully or par- tially from the load L on the fifth wheel 5 toward the second support device 67. In that way the centre of gravity of the truck mounted crane 3 can be displaced relative to the truck body 2 and the fifth wheel 5, from a first centre position to a second centre posi- tion.
Alternatively, the support device or devices 6,6” are attached to the surface facing the truck body support device or devices 6,67. The support devices are then 6,6” and are each capable of engaging and lifting the semi-trailer relatively to the truck body lifting the semi-trailer relatively to the truck body, when the support device is pushing against the truck body. In that way the centre of gravity of the truck mounted crane 3 can also be displaced relative to the truck body 2 and the fifth wheel 5, from at first centre posi- tion to a second centre position.
The support device comprises engagement means for engaging the semi-trailer. The engagement means is not showed in fig. 1. The engagement means for engaging the semi-trailer may be a comprised part of the supporting part. The engagement means for engaging may be provided on each moving means. The support device has said sup- porting part capable of engaging and disengaging the semi-trailer using the releasable engagement means.
DK 181322 B1 11
Alternative to the supporting part 7, a first supporting part and a second supporting part may be provided, not showed on fig 1. Each of the supporting parts may be provided with one or more engagement means. The first supporting part is capable of engaging a first side 10 of the semi-trailer 4 using said engagement means. The second supporting part side is capable of engaging a second side 11 of the semi-trailer 4 using the engage- ment means.
The support device 6” or support device 6°” engages, moves, and/or pushes the semi- trailer 4 in a predetermined direction. The predetermined direction is a substantially vertical direction, such that the moveable means elevates support device 6” or 6”, rela- tive to the truck body 2. The predetermined direction may be substantially upwards.
Then the centre of gravity is displaced relative to the truck mounted crane 3 from at first centre position to a second centre position. Especially, when the truck mounted crane is extending the crane arm, the centre of gravity is displaced such that the load, which the truck mounted crane having an extended crane arm is capable of lifting, is higher when using the support device for displacement of the centre gravity.
Fig. 2 illustrates a truck body 2 with a fifth wheel 5 and a support device 6” is integrated into the back of the truck body 2. The supporting part 7 is an elongated supporting part 7. The supporting part 7 extends along a transverse axis Y relative to a longitudinal axis
X of the truck body 2. The supporting part 7 extends from a first side 10 to a second side 11 of the truck body 2.
An elongated supporting part 7 is arranged relative to the truck body. The two moveable means 8 are configured to move the supporting part 7 in a predetermined direction rel- ative to the truck body 2. The supporting part 7 may be elevated using automatic or manual activation. The supporting part 7 is configured to receive the load from the semi- trailer, when the semi-trailer is attached to the fifth wheel 5.
The supporting part 7 is moved in a predetermined direction away or towards the truck body 2. The predetermined direction is a substantially vertical direction, such that the moveable means 8°, 8” elevate the supporting part 7 relative to the truck body 2. The predetermined direction may be substantially upwards and substantial downwards.
DK 181322 B1 12
When the supporting part 7 is elevated downwards, the upper surface of the supporting part 7 may flush the upper surface of the truck body 2.
Fig. 3 a,b illustrate an embodiment of a support device attached to a truck body. The support device's attachment means 9 is attached to the back of the truck body. The attachment means 9 is holding the moving means 8,8” in a holding position relative to the truck body, such that the moving means 8,8” are capable of moving the supporting part 7 in a vertical direction. The support device comprises an elongated supporting part 7. The elongated supporting part 7 extends from a first side to a second side of the truck body. The support device comprises engagement means for engaging the semi-trailer.
In this example the elongated supporting part 7 is an engagement means for engaging the semi-trailer. The predetermined direction is a vertical direction, which is substan- tially perpendicular to the upper surface of the truck body. The moveable means is ca- pable of elevating the supporting part relative to the truck body, such that said support- ing part is capable of engaging a part of a semi-trailer.
Fig 4 shows a load map of the truck with a truck mounted crane without using a support device. The truck mounted crane is placed on the truck body in the front of the truck adjacent to the truck cab. The load charts show the load capacities listed for operations on outriggers fully extended and set. This load capacity is based on stability of crane or the weight of the load relative to the tipping point. The load charts show the maximum load within safety limitations.
The load chart illustrates a truck with a truck mounted crane, and the truck mounted crane boom position relative to the weight of the load, as a rated lifting capacity. The concentric lines comprise a "n”-factor, wherein the "n”-factor is related to the operation of the truck and the truck mounted crane, when the truck mounted crane extends the boom away from the truck. The truck mounted crane has a moving mobility, such that the crane is capable of rotation of 360° or £180°. The position of the truck’s front wheels 15 and position of the truck’s rear wheels 16 is illustrated as a cross sectional view of the wheels. The position of the truck mounted crane 17 on the front part of the truck body is illustrated as a cross section view of the cranes centre position. The position of fifth wheel attachment point 18 is illustrated as a cross section view of the fifth wheels centre position, where the load from the semi-trailer affects the weight distribution of
DK 181322 B1 13 the truck, especially while the truck mounted crane is moving the boom and lifting a load. The outriggers for the truck 19 contribute to the stability of the truck, while the truck mounted crane is moving the boom and lifting a load. The load capacity for oper- ations with outriggers fully extended is showed on the load chart. The moving direction of the extendable crane boom is illustrated on the load chart. The extendable crane boom movement is illustrated as a line 20, which is drawn from the center of the truck mounted crane and outwards to forwards, forwards right, forwards left, rearwards, rear- wards right, rearwards left.
Especially the forward, forward right and forward left must be used carefully. The out- riggers arranged in the front of the truck is placed close to each other compared to the outriggers arranged in the rear of the truck. This causes the truck and the truck mounted to be less stable when lifting a load. The outer periphery line 21 is the measured stability curve. For example, the outer periphery line 21 comprises a point A at the forward right line 20, wherein the outer periphery line crosses the concentric line at "n” equal to 1,2.
The maximum load must be reduced from 920 kg to 603 kg.
Fig. 5 shows a load chart with the use of a support device. The support device 22 is arranged in the rear end of the truck body, carrying a load of the semi-trailer. Compared to fig. 4, fig. 5 shows an outer periphery line 21 comprises a point B at the forward right line 20, wherein the outer periphery line crosses the concentric line at "n” equal to 1,4.
The maximum load is only reduced from 920 kg to 914 kg. Compared to fig. 4, the rated lifting capacity is increased in this example with more than 30 % in the front right di- rection. The use of the support device increases the rated lifting capacity, and still re- mains in balance and is stable during operation without the risk of the truck tipping over.
