Forbindelserne med formel (I) er farmakologisk aktive med et virkningsspektrum, især antiblodpladeaggregerende og tracheasammentrækkende virkning, som ligner spektret af prostacyclin. De er dog ikke så kraftige som dette, men til gengæld langt mere stabile.
