Katalysatoren kan også være dannet in situ ved reduktion af N1X2, hvor X er Cl, Br eller I, med Zn-, Fe- eller Mn-støv i nærværelse af thiourinstof, eller ved behandling af Raney-nikkel med thiourinstof. Omsætningen udføres sædvanligvis ved 0-100°C.
