Lösungsmittelgemische in Frage kommen.

Anstriche Schwierigkeiten. The polymers of vinyl chloride and those of 1, i-dichloroethene are insoluble or sparingly soluble in common solvents. It is known that the solubility properties of the individual components can be improved by copolymerization of vinyl chloride and 1, i-dichloroethene, solvent mixtures mainly being used as solvents. However, these copolymers cannot be used as paint raw materials, since the solutions usually result in cloudy films after the solvent mixtures have evaporated; in addition, their compatibility with the additives commonly used in paint technology, such as linseed oil, wood oil and modified alkyd resins, is insufficient, apart from the fact that they are very stringy

It is also known to use copolymers of vinyl chloride and / or 1, i-dichloroethene in the presence a third polymerizable vinyl compound, such as. B. styrene, in the absence of regulators to produce, using organic per compounds and a water-soluble silver salt as catalysts be used. Here, however, polymers with a very high molecular weight are obtained, which are not suitable for the production of paints.
It has now been found that one can be used for paint purposes particularly suitable copolymers of vinyl chloride and 1, i-dichloroethene thereby

Die besten Resultatecan keep that you add smaller amounts of a third ■ polymerizable vinyl compound and the Performs polymerization in the presence of regulators. As polymerizable vinyl compounds are named: Acrylic acid and methacrylic acid esters, acrylonitrile etc. have proven to be particularly suitable Styrene and its derivatives have been proven. The amounts to be added should be at least ι%, however Do not exceed 2O%. The best results
ίο werden bei Zusatz einer Menge von ungefähr 5% erhalten, berechnet auf die Gesamtmenge Vinylchlorid und i, i-Dichloräthen.ίο when adding an amount of approximately 5% obtained, calculated on the total amount of vinyl chloride and i, i-dichloroethene.
Als Regler kommen die für die Emulsionspolymerisation allgemein bekannten Verbindungen inThe compounds generally known for emulsion polymerization are used as regulators
1S Frage. Sulfur compounds, such as, for example, the dialkylxanthogetite disulfide and aliphatic chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as chloroform and carbon tetrachloride, are particularly suitable. The amount of regulator to be added depends on the degree of viscosity desired for the end product; In general, the amounts in the case of dialkylxanthogen disulfide are in the order of magnitude from 0.05 to 0.5%.
The ratio of vinyl chloride to 1, i-dichloroethene can vary within wide limits. However, at least 15% vinyl chloride or at least 15% i, i-dichloroethene should be used in the copolymer be included. It has been shown to be particularly advantageous to use vinyl chloride and 1, i-dichloroethene in use the same volume ratios for the polymerization.
Depending on the course of the polymerization and the chosen ratios of vinyl chloride to dichloroethene, the solutions obtained from the isolated copolymers have a more or less high content of swelling bodies. In these cases, it is recommended that the resulting latices following polymerization a Säuxenachbehandlung with water soluble, substantially dissociated acids, in particular at temperatures above 50 0 to undergo.
The polymers are compatible with linseed oil, Leki oil varnish, wood oil, modified alkyd resins of various types, rosin-maleic acid resins, xyl oil-formaldehyde resins, etc. They can be combined with the chlorination products of natural rubber and show 1 at all hereby extensive similarity, however, the films obtained are more elastic and have a higher hardness. In the case of the polymers obtained by the above process, the extraordinarily high brightness of the solutions or of the films and coatings produced from them is particularly to be emphasized.
νThe polymers are not only usable in the form of their solutions as paint raw materials, but also Latices as such can be used as emulsion paints after the addition of plasticizers, dyes, etc. Find. ν
